Vidic was taken off at half-time. He looked very imposing and physical and made a few tackles that were very late. He played OK but it was a very young team and he has never played in England before......so rustiness was expected.......

Fraizer Campbell was again excellent and probably MOM.......

Manchester United have released young American striker Kenny Cooper.
The 21-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2003 from Dallas Mustangs and has featured regularly for the United reserve side.

However, he was unable to force his way into the first team, although he did have a spell on loan at Oldham.

He becomes the third player to leave United in January following the departures of midfielder David Fox and Finnish forward Jami Puustinen.

Kenny Cooper was never really going to make the grade at United. He was built like a tank, and perhaps would have been thrown into the centre of defence had he been an English kid.

From his performances on the pitch, he looked like the kid that was always left towards the end of the playground selection process. Not the last one, as he has some skill, but not good enough to be first. His effort was there to be seen, and I wish him well for the future, but he was never going to jump ahead of the likes of Rossi, Blake and Campbell.

Spireites sign Man Utd striker

League One promotion hopefuls Chesterfield have completed the signing of Manchester United striker Colin Heath on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old Chesterfield-born marksman has spent two-weeks training with the Spireites and agreed a deal with his home-town club late on transfer deadline day.

"Colin has been training with us for a couple of weeks and, now he has become available, we are keen to give another local lad the chance of playing first-team football for Chesterfield," said manager Roy McFarland.

Heath - who enjoyed a six-month loan spell with league rivals Swindon earlier this season - became a trainee at Old Trafford in 2000 and was a prolific scorer at youth level.

He signed professional forms with United in July 2004 and was a regular in Brian McClair's reserve-team.

Heath joins fellow Red Devil Phil Picken on loan at Saltergate.

Reds Aim To Continue Title Charge

Rene Meulensteen has named a strong Reserves side to face Newcastle on Thursday night.

Birthday boy Gerard Piqué, Giuseppe Rossi, Phil Bardsley and Ritchie Jones bring vital first-team experience as the Reds look to further their lead over Middlesbrough.

Makeshift right-back Phil Marsh and Kieran Lee continue on the flanks, with Bardsley and Piqué in the centre of defence.

In central midfield, Darron Gibson returns from injury and Ritchie Jones is back in the frame following his recall from Antwerp, while Markus Neumayr and Kyle Moran occupy the wings.

Upfront, the budding partnership of Rossi and Fraizer Campbell will look to continue their fine run of form - the last two games have seen the pair net seven goals between them.

United: Steele, Marsh, K Lee, Bardsley, Piqué, R Jones, Neumayr, Gibson, Campbell, Rossi, Moran.
Substitutes: Cathcart, Zieler, Rose, S Evans, Brandy.

Report by Steve Bartram.

Any info on the score, please?

A couple of questions (Tony probably knows the answer):
How long have Gibson been out?
When will N'Galula return?
How long has J. Evans been out, for how much longer will he be out?
Who do you rate as the biggest talent, Gibson or R. Jones?
Is F. Campbell a bigger talent than Blake?

Reserves Head To Hyde

Manchester United Res 1: Rossi (pen) 25
Newcastle United Res 0:

Latest Update: 45mins (7pm kick off)

NEWCASTLE Reserves were in action against league leaders Manchester United at Hyde United's Ewen Fields ground on Thursday evening.

Chances were few and far between as both side struggled to find any rhythm in the opening exchanges, but it was the Magpies who came closest to breaking the deadlock on 21 minutes.

Martin Brittain swung in a free kick from the left after Alan O'Brien had been fouled by Phil Bardsley, but when Chris Farman rose highest to get a head on the ball, Gerard Pique was well positioned on the line to sweep the ball to safety.

On 25 minutes Manchester United went ahead from the spot after David Edgar was harshly adjudged to have handled when Frazer Campbell fired in a shot from inside the box. Guiseppe Rossi stepped up to beat Tim Krul from the spot.

The home side went close to doubling their advantage when Campbell had time and space on the left to send in a low cross which Guiseppe Rossi just failed to get on the end of with the goal gaping.

Rossi was Manchester United's main threat as the half progressed, and Edgar and Daryl Smylie were both shown yellow cards for fouls on the striker on 30 and 34 minutes respectively.

Krul did well to backtrack and gather the ball under his crossbar on 35 minutes after Markus Neumayr's effort clipped off Edgar and looped over the Magpies' Dutch goalkeeper, then right on the stroke of half time left back Phil Cave did well to block Rossi as he tried to cut in from the left hand side of the box as the hosts finished the half on top.

Manchester Utd: Luke Steele, Phil Marsh, Kieran Lee, Phil Bardsley, Gerard Pique, Richie Jones, Markus Neumayr, Darren Gibson, Frazer Campbell, Guiseppe Rossi, Kyle Moran
Subs: Craig Cathcart, Ron-Robert Zieler, Danny Rose, Sean Evans, Febian Brandy

Newcastle Utd: Tim Krul, Kris Gate, Phil Cave, Chris Farman, David Edgar, Daryl Smylie, Martin Brittain, Matty Pattison, Carl Finnigan, Liam Atkin, Alan O'Brien

No Place To Hyde For Reserves

Manchester United Res 4: Rossi (pen) 25, 67, 84, Evans 47
Newcastle United Res 0:

Final Update: 90mins (7pm kick off)

NEWCASTLE Reserves were well beaten by Manchester United's second string on Thursday evening, going down 4-0 at Hyde United's Ewen Fields.

Tommy Craig's young side fell behind on 25 minutes when David Edgar was harshly adjudged to have handled in the box, and Guiseppe Rossi netted from the spot.

Sean Evans gave the Magpies a mountain to climb two minutes after the break, and the impressive Rossi bagged another two goals to complete his treble.

MATCH UPDATES

Rossi was Manchester United's main threat as the half progressed, and Edgar and Daryl Smylie were both shown yellow cards for fouls on the striker on 30 and 34 minutes respectively.

Krul did well to backtrack and gather the ball under his crossbar on 35 minutes after Markus Neumayr's effort clipped off Edgar and looped over the Magpies' Dutch goalkeeper, then right on the stroke of half time left back Kris Gate did well to block Rossi as he tried to cut in from the left hand side of the box as the hosts finished the half on top.

But two minutes after the restart Krul was picking the ball out of his net again when substitute Sean Evans, on for Kyle Moran at the start of the second half, fired home after a good ball from Rossi.

Gate made another good clearance, this time off the line, when Pique nodded the ball goalwards on 56 minutes.

Newcastle midfielder Daryl Smylie was unlucky not to reduce the deficit on 62 minutes when his 25-yard screamer skimmed the crossbar, and a similar effort eight minutes later had home goalkeeper Luke Steele at full stretch as it flew just over the top.

But it wasn't to be Newcastle's night, and Rossi notched his second and Manchester United's third on 67 minutes when he found the net with a crisp finish from Neumayr's cross from the right.

And the striker completed his hat-trick six minutes from the end with a rising drive from just inside the box after a break down the left.

TEAMS

Manchester Utd: Luke Steele, Phil Marsh, Kieran Lee, Phil Bardsley (Craig Cathcart 81), Gerard Pique, Richie Jones, Markus Neumayr, Darren Gibson, Frazer Campbell (Febian Brandy 75), Guiseppe Rossi, Kyle Moran (Sean Evans 46)
Subs (not used): Ron-Robert Zieler, Danny Rose

Newcastle Utd: Tim Krul, Kris Gate, Phil Cave, Chris Farman, David Edgar, Daryl Smylie, Martin Brittain, Matty Pattison, Carl Finnigan, Liam Atkin, Alan O'Brien
Subs (not used): Chris Shanks, Craig Baxter, Mickey Terrell, Glenn Reay

Sean Evans had a good second half, his goal was very similar to that of Riise's goal for the dippers on Sunday. Rossi's hat-trick was well taken, with the third goal probably being the pick of the bunch.

Thought Luke Steel looked very nervous in the goal, and made the defence look nervous with him and of him.

No Ole, anyone know why he wasn't in the squad??

We send a boatload of players out on loan and keep spanking the other reserve teams.

Oh, and Rossi is way too good for the reserves.

It was warmer than it was against Bolton, just before Christmas, though I must say my hat, scarf and gloves were all worn and I had to keep reminding myself that by shivering I'd get colder.

Brandy looked ok, the only concern about his future is his height.... I thought Rossi was small, but Brandy is even smaller. What a shame we got rid of King Kenny Cooper, that would have been a sight to behold, Kenny and Febian in attack!!!

BTW MUM where do you normally sit for reserve matches?? (I will answer that before any jokes at me, in Hyde......) Where in the stadia??

Sean Evans scored within minutes of getting on the pitch. He shows great awareness.
Febian Brandy reminds me of Shaun wright Phillips...he can turn on a sixpence and is very lively....considering he's only 16..he looks a good prospect.

From what i've seen of Brandy in the under 18's he looks an extremely talented player. He's very short but could bulk up in time and he's lightning quick. Can't wait to see him getting more reserve games.

Gibson is back in action already.

N'Galula won't be back until next season.

Shame .. it might have hindered N'Galula's growth a bit this injury .. But then again, some players come back a much better player mentally & physically 'cos during their injury, they get more time to observe & learn - & their will & hungriness increase as day goes that they stayed in the side-line .. hope this will be the case for N'Galula .. He looks a worthy player before his injury.

Is F. Campbell a bigger talent than Blake?

Gibson had a hand operation over Christmas and was back in training in late January....he is fit and ready to play

N'Galula has a hip injury and is out for the rest of the season.....he has been sent home to Belgium to be with his family and will return in the summer

Jonny Evans pulled a groin muscle just prior to the Youth Cup tie at Sunderland....although he played for an hour he came off and has been out of action since.....not heard how bad the injury is or when he will return....

Gibson and R. Jones are very different players......Gibson is a passer and therefore a creator.......Jones is more destructive and harries opponents...

Campbell and Blake is a better comparison...........Blake is a big strong classic centre-forward.....while Campbell is quicker and has more skill....they are both good goalscorers..although Campbell's finishing is not as good as Blake's....up to 3-4 months ago I would have rated Blake the better player....but in recent weeks Fraizer has really come on and playing particularly well alongside Rossi......

Funnily, I think Campbell is one of those players (like Bardsley), that performs better with higher grade football....he seems to play better in the reserves than in the under 18's.....

All opinion of course................

Kenny Cooper

FC Dallas is to announce a new player acquisition this afternoon at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas. Sources close to the team and player indicate that the press conference is to announce the acquisition of former Jesuit standout and Manchester United reserve forward Kenny Cooper.

According to quotes this weekend attributed to Cooper's father, Cooper had his contract with the Red Devils terminated by mutual consent so that he could sign with Major League Soccer and FC Dallas. However Kansas City filed a discovery claim prior to FC Dallas and therefore got the first shot to sign Cooper. Today's announcement means that FC Dallas has either acquired Cooper from KC, or the Wizards have passes on their chance to sign the Dallas local.
