Youri Tielemans

If his defensive game will be improving just like hollywood attempts on goal I don't see why United wouldn't be interested in a player who looks like Mike Smalling's younger brother.

He started his adventure with Anderlecht by playing deep so he could already have a basic grasp what Mourinho would expect from him. Still a teenager so it's early to make a definitive judgement but someone may scoop him sooner or later.

Atletico were already circling around him in the summer

Truly flattering for Youri. They tend to hit the jackpot with some of their deals so they might be on to something plus they'll definitely have funds for more if Griezmann made the decision.

That would be a horrendous move for him. Needs to move to a club where he can fully be himself like Verratti/Thiago.

Would rather we give Perreira a chance before going in for other such young midfield prospects. I'm pretty sure Andreas would kill it in the Belgian league as well.

The lad has incredible potential. He should be available for around 20mil I would imagine.

Tielemans is Belgiums biggest talent along with Musonda, Im not sure if Pereira is as good but I'd prefer to develop "our own".
Andreas was also one of Belgium's biggest talents. He played alongside Musonda in the youth teams. He looks to be doing better, quite a bit better even, in La Liga than Musonda did as well.

Musonda isn't even playing first team football at the minute. He couldn't make the Betis squad this season and has been recalled by Chelsea. Tielemans may have the bigger 'ceiling' (bleurgh) but Andreas is a bright spark in a much better league and a poorer (relatively speaking) side.

He and Pereira are not exactly the same kind of players, both can play together but will definitely be some muscle alongside them

I actually have more faith in Andreas than someone like a Tielemans right now, especially because of his spell at Granada. He's handled the situation (poor side seemingly in a constant state of flux) very admirably, which speaks a lot about his attitude and mentality. Can't wait for him to come back and join the first team!

Hilarious how maybe like 3/4 people on this forum have actually seen him consistently play but apparently he's a must-sign for every club.

He's certainly a player that should be on the radar of every top club, for sure. A move to a mid-table side in Spain or Germany would probably benefit him the most at this stage of his career.

Midfield is the one area we need to address more than any other this summer. So often I've watched us this season and thought, all we need is one dynamic centreman lodging between Pogba & Herrera, and the whole team would be transformed.
I think if I had the option to sign 3 players I'd opt for 3 new mids.
As much as I like Lingard, Schweinsteiger and Fellaini, I really think it's in their best interests to find more playing time elsewhere, and Carrick seems closer to retirement with every outing.
If we could offload them and bring in, say Keita, Kessie and Tielemans as replacements I'd be more bullish about our prospects for next season. If we had those 3 plus Pogba & Herrera to choose from our stocks would rise considerably.
I actually don't mind our forward line, Zlatan, Mata, Martial, Rashford and Mkhitaryan is adequate enough.
The backline is good. There's obviously question marks involving the LB position but I think it's right to give Shaw the chance to stake his claims, and Blind is a decent footballer. In any case I don't think LB will be the difference between winning the premiership or not.
Midfield is the first area that needs an overhaul.

watching a Belgian football show on tv. Apparently a director of anderlecht is in Munchen to talk about a transfer of Tielemans... not sure if true.

Surely they don't need another young CM. They just seem to be stockpiling players, when they don't need them. Besides, Sanches gets very little game time, so can't see Tielemans getting very much either, if he were to join.

Alonso is retiring.

And even more important, we need a guy like Tielemans. From the descriptions I've read about him, he es is quite the creative type. We desperately need someone like him. Thiago is the only creative player we have who can play in central midfield.

I don't think you know the meaning of the word desperation. Poor little Bayern eh?

Btw this thread appears to have grown a couple of pages on the back of him scoring a couple of goals. So no actual news then.

You already have Thiago, Vidal, Sanches & Kimmich.

Maybe Kimmich will be the RB and then with Alonso retiring there's Vidal and Thiago starting every game then Sanches or Muller starting as a 10 and the other a sub, so they'd need another CM to be 1st off the bench/cover whenever Muller is out wide or up top (and they don't have another 9 to back up Lewandowski) or Thiago is hurt. So I could see it.

No point lying, I know very little about him except he's very highly rated and scored a peach of a goal there lately.

What type of player is he? Could he potentially be an upgrade on Herrera? Does he play similarly to Pogba or Carrick? Anyone that really has watched him regularly, is he as good as he made out to be and would he be worth making a move for?

He's got excellent passing skills a la Pirlo. He's quite deft of foot and he has scored quite a few long range screamers. He's also defensively sound.

He can play 6 8 or even 10 but is probably best suited as an 8.

Like a young Scholes then (not saying he's that good but similar type) but better defensively? He's bound to be worth at least a look at then?

Agree, his best position is probably an advanced 8 or 8 1/2

He's not really a quartermaster from the little I've seen him play. (5 or 6 games or so; I'm not a Belgian league fanatic.) He's a little weak on the ball/with decision making and would likely struggle in the PL and being pressed at his age. Not to say he can't develop that spatial awareness and composure, but I've not really seen it in him yet. His off the ball awareness seems fine as you say, but even in advanced areas you sometimes facepalm at his decision making. Playing a Carrick/Pirlo type role in the PL would be a baptism of fire too far for me.

He needs freedom [playing further up the pitch] and the ability to make mistakes to train and develop his speed of thought and awareness.

He's not a player I'd prioritise going for if I was Jose. Very talented youngster, but I can't see a spot for him in our squad. I'd also put Andreas Pereira well ahead of him currently in 'readyness' to play in a big league.

No, I wouldn't say so. People forget what sort of player young Scholes was, i.e. a very attack minded midfielder and almost a second striker at times. Tielemans is nothing like that. He's not a number 10 nor is he ideally suited to a Carrick role. He's probably more of a Pogba than anything else, in terms of what role best suits him. Which is an obvious issue for those who'd want us to sign him.

Still has the time to improve in other areas and develop into a different sort of player, but right now that's my take on him.

Haven't seen enough of him to comment on how good he is on a consistent basis. Based on what I have seen, seems to have that ability to grow into a game-dictating CM or even a DLP if he wants. I think he's better picking it up from deep and dictating play before bursting forward rather than as a more attack minded midfielder exclusively. I think he'd complement Pereira rather than be direct competition. He'd slot into either Herrera or Carrick position in a three man midfield.

Talent wise, he's in that Weigl/Thiago/Verrati style of modern deep lying midfielder with exceptional ball skills, with ambidexterous passing. Is it too early for him to make a move? my worry is sometimes you leave it too late with players like this and that crucial age window where you can mould them into a truly top player is missed. He's worth a gamble in my book, even if it doesn't come off.. on the flip side, you could get a real star of the future and if he flops, he'll have good resale value regardless.

His biggest strength is his football-intellect. He understands the game, and always has a very good overview. This results in some very nice passes, and setup play. His shots from distance are also nice, but not sure if those would be as good in the PL. Players don't have a lot of time to try a long shot here.

I always buy him on Football Manager if that helps. Never actually watched the kid play so no idea if he actually deserves any of the hype around him. Would be good to see him get a chance in a big league.

His best position would be on the 8, with a more defensive mid behind/next to him I think. Excellent shot, technical very sound. Needs to work on his strength a bit. Good football intelligence. Only 19, captain and has played 150 games in the first team. Also played for the National Team a few times.

I have always been very critical of him, but there's no denying his talent.

Tielemans would be a squad option either way and I think he's said in the past that if he were to move then he wants to play regularly. But if Kimmich is seen as a RB, then hopefully that frees Semedo to move to us.

Makes sense. Just saying there may well be okay squad time at Bayern if they stay 4-2-3-1, especially with Thiago's injury record. But yeah, there would be more time for a CM here as long as we don't also sign a DM.

Do Barca have a ban this summer? They badly need some verve at RB and Semedo is the logical candidate.

Maybe I just haven't watched him play enough but does he not remind anyone else a little of Fabregas at Arsenal? Obviously not as good currently but in the same sort of mould.

I think they've been strongly linked with Cancelo, but from the little I've seen of both, I'd prefer Semedo.
