I have won multiple league and European titles, I buy big names each summer and I never skip past the paper clippings in my inbox quickly.

Can I be your assistant? I have done the same in FM.

As much as Jose is the dream manager in many ways, he's a short-term option, rarely plays attractive football and rarely uses youth players, which completely rules him out IMO.

So 1 young player given a chance this season? :(

Unlike Utd who can afford to put on their youngsters every now and again - Moyes with what he has at his disposal doesn't have the same luxury you know...

Why would he need to quit when Sir Alex is retiring at the end of the season? We arent sacking him right now...

Moyes would just need to announce that hes joining in the summer

But us saying it's going to be Moyes whilst he is still at Everton wouldn't happen.

Whoever it is will need to resign or wait until their contract runs out first.

Manchester United chief executive David Gill, speaking to MUTV:

"We have to look forward now and I think any manager coming in will inherit a great squad and great staff around him. It is a dream job. I won't speculate on the announcement but I think we will move relatively quickly.

"In Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex we got in managers who got involved in all aspects of the club. That degree of loyalty is crucial to the success of Manchester United. He (the next manager) needs the required football experience in terms of domestic and European requirements, so it is a small pool."

Sounds like Jose to me.

Some of you utd fans don't live in the real world do you. Yes... the europa league IS european experience...

It's not just all about the champions league you know :nono:

In the real world - of UEFA and Europa. Everton haven't impressed, despite having more money/resources than their European opponents in those competitions.

I know Gill didn't talk about experience of winning, but it would be nice to think that it's part of the equation.

Jose is the most nailed on to be successful. I don't think we'll get him though. Klopp would be second choice, but that's based on just the past 3 seasons. Aside from that, he's not been spectacular though he's pretty young.

The line about That degree of loyalty is crucial, doesn't sound Jose.

Everton wouldn't be in the position they are if they gave youngsters games every week for the sake of it, the young players have to be good enough. I don't see any Jones, Rafaels, Welbecks, Smallings or De Geas knocking around at Everton. The players have to be good enough to do a job for the team and not just rely on potential.

This is in noway a criticism of SAF but if Pogba and Morrison had been at Everton its extremely likely they would've got more first team chances than they did here. Moyes gave Rooney his debut at 16 ffs.

No, he can just announce his intention to take over at United next season or say he signed a pre-contract

Everton have nothing to play for realistically and we have no rush to have him installed before his contract expires. We'd just be spending money for no reason

Barkley, Velios, Duffy, Oviedo are all younger and had mins

Shane Duffy - 21YO - 1min
Magaye Gueye - 22YO - 50mins
Apostolos Vellios - 22YO - 61mins
Ján Mucha - 30YO - 180mins
Ross Barkley - 19YO - 209mins
Bryan Oviedo - 23YO - 239mins

The above are all the players 23 or younger to have mins for Everton. Not exactly giving youth a chance at Everton. Then again, after looking at Real, Mourinho hasn't either, although Varane has got over 1000mins.

Spiralling effect.

Moyes is rumoured and linked. People place bets. Odds shorten. Shortening of odds reported. People read that as confirmation it will be him. Place more bets. Odds further shorten. Repeat.

which is precisely why sky run such rumours.

Skybet makes a fortune from it.

So Moyes has 22 games in Europe. Does that count as enough experience?

It's probably a little hard to compare to Everton because it's quite easier for us to play younger players. Some of the younger lads at Everton may simply not be good enough. We paid tons of money to have top talents like De Gea, Smalling, Jones and were able to pull it a top talent like Rafael (yes, alongside Welbeck and Cleverley).

They were largely shit though. He has a reasonable record, but if you take 07/08 out of it (which was a very good European season for them) it becomes worrying - especially his away record.

That we've generally done well in Europe since going out bottom of the group in 2005/6 has been based on having a very very good away record (at one point it was the best in Europe, and it remains better than Barcelona's).

I wouldn't want to reset that in any way.

I'm not concerned about Moyes not playing many young players this season. Its far more concerning that he'd be starting from scratch as a manager expected to win titles and cups. He also has a terrible record against the big teams

I do think Moyes is a good manager and has done very well to Everton in the top 7 regularly. Not winning anything is a big blot on his CV though.

As a manager would he be able to draw big names to the club?

Ancelloti was rubbish at Chelsea
 League and FA Cup double in first season. Abramovich sold a load of players in the summer against his wishes which lead the squad thread bare, finished 2nd in following season, got sacked. That's Chelsea for you.

What he's achieved in management compared to Moyes is laughable when you think about who's getting the job of succeeding Fergie.

Come on, Rooney was a special case.

I agree with the timing being iffy. Many people were of the opinion that Mou wouldn't wait around for SAF forever, and that he may look at Chelsea because SAF may still be at United for 2-3 years etc, so I find it strange that his retirement is announced today when it could have been left until the end of the season..

Mourinho: feck it, going to Chelsea, can't wait around forever.
SAF: Right I've retired.

IMO if it was anyone else, it could have been left until the end of the season.

I always find that criticism a bit unfair. It's a bit like asking why, say, Zaragoza fail to beat Real very often; the reason is plainly obvious, and has little to do with managers.

I think between everything Gill said, the only manager who we can bring in is Alex Ferguson.

Indeed - that interview from Gill produced absolutely no useful information; damn he is good at his job

Yes but I wouldnt be happy with Moyes either :P Given all the money spent I found them dissappointing, like with Mancini. As I mentioned Avram Grant seemed to get them going better...

Anyone think Ancellotti is a dark horse?

Managed in England, won the double...won European Cups with Milan. Is a confident manager with extensive experience in European football....and a winner.

He is still only 53 aswell.
