Gone for Mourinho (sensible choice) , but if not i hope we consider recruiting from within.

Wenger would be a lovely appointment. And he could re-unite with RvP. Would never happen though. But I do hope he applies.

I can see Giggs making a U-turn and retiring this season.

I don't think this is the sort of job you apply for! I wouldn't mind Wenger though.

I can see it now... next to a giant SAF banner adorning the stretford end, a new one proudly takes place next to it... simply reading "Arsene knows"

We'd have to stop the paedophile songs too.

No matter who our next manager will be it will be a weird feeling seeing someone else sitting on our bench.

In my lifetime as a Manchester United fan I never have witnessed anyone else being in charge of our club.

What about the Redcafe as manager. We are all great at picking sides and tactics, who we should be buying. Sorted. Management by committee.

So how long do we reckong the process to put another manager in place will take? I guess out of respect for the other clubs they will wiat until the end of the season.

But surely the successor has long been identified and contact made.

Keeping a team mid table with limited resources is a very different prospect to managing a group of stars, being consistently excellent in the league, playing world class opposition in Europe while bringing through younger players.

Moyes has virtually zero experience in Europe.

And how do you get that experience?

Give him a chance - he has done well with hardly any money - would to see what he can do with real money - and he could bring Fellaini with him!

Solskjaer please. Understands our club, the traditions, would be respected by the players, wouldn't be a circus, beloved by the fans and has that determination and winning mentality.

We don't need someone to rebuild us from scratch - just to keep us steady and motivate the excellent players we have while enjoying full fan support and slowly starting to take us in his own direction.

Well, that sounds a lot like Moyes to me. Solskjær could become a great manager - and I for one would love it if he took over at Old Trafford at some point. But if the main argument against Moyes is his lack of top level experience, surely that speaks even stronger against Ole.

The way I see it Moyes is less of a gamble than many make it out to be. Again, if he gets the job it'll be because he's Fergie's man of choice, someone who will continue along the path laid out by Fergie himself. Either he will prove himself truly worthy (as someone said, the United job could be the making of him as a top notch manager) or he will do decently enough: Keep us there or thereabouts, not fecking up anything fundamental. And then we may consider hiring Ole some years down the line, when he's good and ready.

I can't see Moyes being an utter disaster no matter what. But some fans are clearly already pissing themselves at the prospect of us not winning every trophy in sight starting the very next season. They want Mourinho because he's "guaranteed" to bring trophies with him. That's bollocks in itself, there are no such guarantees. And it's very short-sighted. Mourinho may come here, bring his staff with him, do an overhaul of the whole operation to suit his managerial style - win us some silverware, yes, but then feck off (because he falls out with the owners over something or other, or just because he's too restless to stay on).

Moyes' Wikipedia. Which one of you was it?

Have the club said anything regarding the next manager? I havent seen any quotes yet...

This is a huge thing and I would hope that we announce the new manager as soon as possible. I couldn't see Fergie announcing this without having a successor lined up.

Mourinho, but just because he'll bring a stability that we'll need after Sir Alex. I doubt Mourinho would be here too long which is fine by me, but I do think he's the best man to immediately follow Sir Alex.

Re: Klopp. Has he every been seriously linked to us? Has he any connection to Fergie?

And there's this: If they are to announce the new man within the next 48 hours, surely that rules him out? He can't effectively resign at Dortmund before the CL final - that would be bizarre indeed.

He can announce and bow out at the CL final, theoretically.

Re: Klopp. Has he every been seriously linked to us? Has he any connection to Fergie?

Nope. Think he's staying with Dortmund. It's more wishful thinking.

Looks to me like its either Moyes or Jose. Also looks like its already done and dusted which would point to Moyes.

David Gill "the new manager will have to have experience in both England and European competitions"

From Twitter. Did he say this in his interview to MUTV right now? If true, then surely rules out Moyes.

If you were Moyes would you take the job? On one hand it's an excellent opportunity at the best club in the world but on the other hand if things go wrong it could harm his reputation forever. Anyone who takes this job is on a hiding to nothing

It'll be announced soon but out of respect for Sir Alex this day should be about him and the club know that, I'd expect the new manager to already be lined up and announced tomorrow.

David Gill #MUTV exclusive: "Momentous day for the club, the fans and the whole football world. We knew this day would come and we have been preparing for that. Board will take council from Sir Alex and Sir Bobby on new appointment. The new manager will have to have experience in both England and European competitions. Working with Sir Alex has been the highlight of my career."

Rules out Moyes for sure does it not?

Mourinho it is then.
