He has done an excellent job... but he has also both a) not won anything and b) never qualified for the CL proper in 10 years at Everton. In that time he could and probably should have steered Everton to at least a cup win or a group stage CL run around...

It's a valid criticism against the man... the idea that it's simply because his name "isn't sexy enough" if wide of the mark.

There's also criticisms to be made against his style of football and tactical nous...
I should point out that Moyes isn't my choice for the job - I voted for Mourinho. My argument here is that, if Moyes is chosen, he will deserve our full backing and he would have been picked for many very good reasons.

The timing of Fergie's announcement seems a bit odd to me. I wouldn't have thought he would have done so early unless there was a chance of getting someone special. We could get Moyes any time we wanted. He sucks.

Mourinho for me.

I worry Moyes would struggle if given money and expectation. Not sure his scouting network covers players in our quality level.

Pointing out that the guy has singular failed to win a single thing is hardly "picking flaws".

Not denying he's a very capable manager, but we need somebody exceptional, a proven winner.
Overachieving for an extended period of time on a very small budget - and having a very good record in the transfer market - are for me a lot more important than picking up a league cup or two along the way. He is hardly going to win the league is he?

Imagine being a player and walking into the dressing room to see Moyes...

Come on. :wenger:

I feel this as well. I feel that with United he is someone who understands the loyalty and the path you need to walk down to be as good as or better than Fergie.. For someone like him I can see that being a big factor if he were to sign.

He (to me) looks like the kind of guy who would see that and say 'you know what, I'm fecking better nad I can fecking do better'.

Or thats how I see it anyway.. Wishful thinking maybe. I feel Mourinho would definitely find a home here if given the backing but whoever comes in will do fine I think with the platform that SAF has left.

Well he's a manager with a lot of accolades, withstands pressure, doesn't let egos in the dressing room. He's the perfect fit at the moment.

Those who say it's ok with Moyes is like not to go after a knockout chick rather to go with the ugly and loyal one, that would never leave.

And you're always acting as if you're the best Man Utd fan in the world.

Not at all.

I'm not just going to act like an idiot because I don't like a rumour put out there by Sky.

You don't have to be "the best United fan in the world" or a "Top Red" to support Moyes if he's the next United manager. Just not an idiot.

Whoever comes needs to keep the staff relatively stable, it would be very bad I feel if a manager comes in and the likes of Rene etc. are moved out when they've played such a big part.

Mourinho would be able to keep the trophies flowing. Moyes on the other hand would be too big a risk which could see us go for another barren spell without the league .... At least with Fergie's appointment, he was already a known winner with Aberdeen.

And when he is manager, we'll support him, but he's not yet, therefore there's absolutely nothing wrong with voicing concerns against something you do not want to happen.

Not Moyes. Please no.

But I think it's looking likely it will be him. fecks sake.

He picked up some decent players like Fellaini and Mirallas and anyway, surely he would inherit our scouting network.

Don't get me wrong, if it is Moyes and he's in, I'll get behind the man and give him my full support.

I just think it would be the wrong move and he's not the man for the job... but I'd love to be proven wrong.

BREAKING.Negotiations between new MUFC manager and their club to end contract "amicably" and "imminently".

Surely can't be Moyes? His contract ends in a few weeks anyway!

It's not an option, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of Scholes/Giggs/Neville in the position. Fergie'll still be there in the short term so it wouldn't be a completely unsupported role.

It probably won't happen, but as long as it's done for pragmatic rather than sentimental reasons, it'd be nice to see.

Stan Collymore is an idiot.

Indeed.

One of the reason I am pro-Moyes is that I think he'll come in without a huge turnaround in staff. I can't imagine we'll entertain any idea of dismissing United coaching staff and hiring Everton's.

With Mourinho I think it would be different.
