I'd take Cabaye though. Can rotate with Herrera and Blind, plenty of games for him considering you'd hope we'd be back in the champions league next year.

I am talking about Herrera? Herrera plays kinda the same position as him and is the better player IMO. I'd love him as a squad player but our 8 for the future is certainly Herrera.

Hopefully between champions league,league and other cups we wil need a deep pool of quality players in midfield,and Cabaye ,,,,and i swear i mean this,,,hes the closest player ive seen that plays and resembles scholes.

Blind/Strootman/Cabaye/herrera/Carrick would be ideal.Throw Reus and a centreback in there id be delighted.

Really wanted us to go after Cabaye in January. Remember getting in many arguements on here as many wanted better but I would still welcome him. We have good options in the middle these days with Blind, Carrick, Herrera and Di Maria but if we want to be winning things, you need quality in depth.

diMaria,free floating from wing to wing and through the middle is where he is best utilised.

Not a bad squad player, but he's currently on very high wages, and unhappy that he isn't playing regularly.

In a midfield 3 which we have, I can't see him doing ADM or Herrera's job better than they do, and Blind is pretty safe with only Carrick to challenge him, but I don't see how Cabaye wouldn't regularly be on the bench here and be just as unhappy at PSG..

I just wouldn't feel confident with Cabaye as one of two first choice deeper midfielders for a long season.

I think he's a very ordinary player there. Tidy enough, decent reading of the game, but nothing special at all - to really take us beyond the midfields of other teams.
Plus I think he's more effective when he's given a bit more freedom and protection, and isn't the one doing the protecting.

There's a reason he isn't playing for PSG. I have always been dead set against this transfer and my opinion remains the same. He was massively overrated on here for a-few months by a little cult following. He's a decent player and as I always said, would have been a decent squad player if he was available on the cheap. He wasn't cheap and certainly won't be now. Steer clear.

I agree. I think that the midfield can be greatly improved on with a player like Matic (obviously that'll be hard to find) or at least a player who brings something like Matic brings to the table. And I agree it'll probably be Blind that sees his place taken/challenged.

In my opinion Di Maria needs to stay in the midfield, and Herrera looks capable of scoring six or seven goals, while providing the energy and doing a bit of everything all over the pitch. Those two with a physical all-rounder like Matic would be incredible.

But Cabaye's not the man.

I don't think Cabaye will happen for so many reasons but moving forward, it would be great to have someone like that to call on in regards to quality.

I can't see this happening. Van Gaal is clearly after Strootman and with the signings of Blind, De Maria and Herrera we are not lacking good midfielder players anymore. Strootman finishes off the type of defensive midfielder Van Gaal obviously wants.

We should be looking for central defenders in January depending on how Smalling, Rojo, Jones and Evans get on in the next few months.

He's a good player but central midfield is not the problem it once was so we are at a point where we are going to be more selective with our transfers.
