Arse stupidly have shown themselves as being desperate and shouted about how much cash they're sitting on so Ashley will push price up. IF PSG are serious I'm sure he'd choose them over a dodgy Arse side with a manager whose days must surely be numbered.

I reckon Kebab will be our only signing in January.....possibly a left back too..Kebab would probably be just a stop gap but seem as very few top midfielders will be available in January then Kebab will defo be on the market for the right price and would probably improve our central midfield and our chances of a top 4 finish.....scored a belter against Liverpool last week and was one of the stand out performers on the pitch

I haven't ever really watched him closely. I know he is pretty skillful on the ball, can pick out a nice through ball and has a great strike and free kick.

Can he tackle? Can he dictate the pace of a game? Will he thrive with better players around or is he the type that should be the focal point of an average team?

I'd say he is a slightly better version of Darren Gibson when Gibson is used as a box to box player. Cabaye would have a better eye for a defense splitting pass than Gibson even though Cabaye would be no playmaker. Cabaye's ability to hold onto possession in midfield would not be as good as Cleverleys but he would make more happen for the forwards than Cleverley would.....He's a very average box to box player but is a good tackler with a great shot on him who can sometime play a striker through but not that often...would be nothing more than a stop gap if he ever came

We already bought an average midfielder this summer, the last thing i want is to buy another one in Jan.

The time has come to buy truly world class..

truly world class will only be available on the market on June 2014......not sure we can afford to wait that long for a world class central midfielder

We are always linked with this average player, he'd had left Newcastle already if he was good enough for us.

true.....he won't be coming here actually.......A Will Hughes or Koke would be a much more imaginative signing if Moyes is capable of it

He would be a decent addition, but that says more about our midfield situation than about his quality.

Averaged winning the ball more than any of our midfielders, including Fellaini, in each of the seasons he's been in the premier league

Yeah, the Newcastle way of playing is a lot more direct than most teams. I think Cabaye would look much better at a side that actually keep the ball on the ground.

We could do a hell of a lot worse than go for this guy in January. There's no way he's getting his move to Arsenal now.

6 tackles 3 interceptions, won the ball more than any other player on the pitch. The most underrated midfielder defensively in the league

He was excellent in the first half. In the 2nd, along with the rest of the Newcastle team, he was pretty anonymous.

It did highlight his defensive work though, another aspect of his game that's underrated.

I've been thinking for a while that we should go after Cabaye. He's not the answer to our midfield woes but he'd certainly improve our options. Would be a decent replacement for Scholes with the qualities he offers, except obviously not being as good

In a team that has the majority of possession in most games like we do, I really think he could be a fantastic metronome for the midfield.

Mobile, good with the ball, good passing - would be perfect for us

I said in summer that I'd rather we signed Cabaye than Fellaini, his basic skillset is superior. Not the world class signing most of our fans were craving but he could fill in for Carrick and play next to him so would have made us stronger in CM, whereas I don't think we are currently any stronger than last season.

Was excellent today... boy can he pick a pass and his workout is very good. Could be a good move for a top 4 club however he'd have to up his game abit... Would take him in January though.

I think Cabaye is a wondeful footballer but I've got two problems with him. One, his injury record isn't great and two, I think he's a little inconsistent and goes missing a little too much.
If we do go for him I think it'll be a bit of a risk. Just not sure about Cabaye. But I think someone should take a punt on him.

He'd be a very good stop-gap until we can find a world class / potentially world class CM from somewhere. I think he's a better player than someone like Ramires at Chelsea who has been a relatively successful signing.

I dont think we should sign him. But he's clearly a better CM than Fellaini ever was and if we were going to go for a proven CM from the premier league, he was the no brainer. At this point, having signed Fellaini, if we now have to go back for Cabaye we're probably compounding our problems instead of fixing them.

Agree with this. The next CM we sign should be a top class CM.

I like Ramires. You can normally get him for 16/1 first scorer and I have won a good few quid off the back of him.

He just needs to make the step up.. He can definatley play at this level.

I'm not sure we'll do that either. But what does a Fellaini and Cabaye midfield really give you? Some tackles, some strength, an occasional screamer from Cabaye, some pretty good distribution from Cabaye... I dont know. I just think we could look longer term and hopefully wont fall into the same trap we fell into with the likes of Fellaini, Young and Berbatov. Premier league proven doesn't mean anything, the player can take ages to adapt or not be cut out for United despite playing hundreds of games in the league for another club. If there's someone better in another of the top leagues, you arent really taking much more of a chance going for them instead of the premier league player. Both will need time to settle. But the better player, wherever he's from, will be worth the time it takes to settle

What if you cant get a top class CM in January, but you can get Cabaye? Getting in a not-quite top class player in January could mean the difference in winning the title. As it stands, if Carrick gets injured its game over.
