Yoann Gourcuff

Maybe it's just me, but every single time I have seen this lad play, he has been average to shite. I can't understand the hype. I hope we don't go near him.

When he's good he's incredible, just not the norm though.

What''s his long passing like? Didn't see any of that last night.

Again depends on which Gourcuff turns up, it's just as good as his short range passing and can be lethal but in Bordeaux he tends to play further up the field linking with strikers more. When he has been deep he's more than likely to short pass up the field or run with it. There are some lads on here who could tell you better though, these are just my observations.

Hopefully this world cup will pour water on all those FM talents we get linked with by tabloids. Can't believe some of our fans would have us drop £30m on players like this and Suarez. £30m is what you pay for proven world class talent like Sneijder, Robben, Villa and the like.

Not kids who make a few nice touches in weaker leagues.

Exactly the same here.

Probably not a coincidence that you're both Irish, he was rubbish in those games.

Lots of players can't turn it on for the national team though.

France last night reminded me of England under Mclaren, you can see the indvidual talent but non of them have a clue what they're meant to be doing for each other.

I don't understand what Govou was doing out there? How is he first choice for France again? I would ether draft Malouda or Ribery on the right and leave Govou on the bench.. Ah well I guess The Horoscopes are in Govou's favour..

Agree with this. Can kouroux, Nani Nana or french devil explain this? Is Govou really good enough for the starting 11?

After all this time listening to how good he is, I finally got a chance to see him. And he was absolutely appealing. He seemed frightened of the ball. His touched was terrible, really terrible.

I won't judge him on just this one performance because that would be unfair but he was terrible. And he just seems to be a bit of a luxury player. Doesn't seem to want or command possession like a proper playmaker should (Xavi or Fabregas)

According to some journalist, there was no real clash between Malouda and Domenech before the match. However the Chelsea player said to the coach he would not evolve in a defensive position (DM), as he did on a few occasions. He added: "Being in the service of Zidane, OK, but that of Gourcuff, no way !"

I haven't seen him perform well in any match I've seen him playing in with either France or Bordeaux. I'm not just basing it on the two France v Ireland games, although he was shite in them.

Seems like this lad Gourcuff is a real cnut.

Sneijder was fresh from an injury and he had failed at Real. Robben is injury prone while Villa costed Barca 40m and he is a 27 yr old. The main stumbling block at United are the salaries. We cant compete neither with the top Spanish side nor with Shitty and Chelsea. Therefore we have to look at good young talent who has yet to fall into those team's radar. Those type of talent are not cheap. Its rumoured that Hangeland cover and Mexico's second (or third) choice striker costed the club around 7 to 10m each. 20m for 2 players who had just 1 good season (one as a reserve while the other in the tough mexican league) in their belt

What an absolute twat Malouda is. "being in the service of.." acting as if he's doing a job for a player. You play for the fecking team. What a twat.

Nobody is going to see the best of Gourcuff in a French shirt until Blanc takes over. I'm just happy that for all the hype the best player in the tournment so far has been Park

A question for kouroux (or anyone else):

Tim Vickery made the point on Friday night that Gourcuff is often rather anonymous for a player that is supposed to be the playmaker — the player who is supposed to touch the ball at least as often, if not more, than any other on the pitch — but I can't recall whether that was solely in relation to the Uruguay game, or whether it was a general observation about him as a player. He also commented on his excellent delivery from dead balls, which, while obviously important, really isn't enough to win a place in many national sides.

It was also said (by Andy Brassell) that he may well have problems with his mentality, because Ancelotti commented that he had lost himself while he was at AC Milan (although, to be fair, that may have simply been immaturity).

Is any of this a problem for Gourcuff in general, or is it solely related to specific games, for example, or to a specific time in his career?

I haven't watched him anywhere near enough (perhaps a dozen or so times, and they were rather specific games in the Champions League and at International level), so I don't feel qualified to be able to form a general opinion of him as a player.

Sounds like they're a bit jealous of Gourcuff, maybe because of the "next Zidane" tag the ridiculous media have saddled him with.
It wouldn't surprise tbh. He's a media darling, he's good looking, he speaks good french for a footballer (the others sound like hillbillies), he smiles on the pitch and he's a positive player. It's really ironic that Domenech didn't choose to call up Nasri/Benzema mainly for dressing room stability whereas the current situation seems just as bad.

Malouda is a good player and always plays well for France but I agree with you. That's a fecked up mentality and even arrogance from him.No matter how good you are, you just can't say that.Sometimes it's better to let go of your ego and think for the team.
Tbh these quotes were mentioned by a journo so they may not exactly the exact truth but the general meaning is the same

I think if we can into consideration the immense expectation and pressure Gourcuff has been under from the end of his club season football to the start of the WC, it's an easy situation. He obviously needs to work on psychological aspect of football and specifically his mental toughness.
Vickery is right with his comments as it's also been the general view regarding Gourcuff in the last 4 matches (3 friendlies+ game vs Uruguay). He doesn't stamp his autority on the game but tbh his teammates do not help him.A group of Anelka/Ribery/Evra went to see the coach last week and asked to see Diaby starting ahead of Gourcuff.
It's hard to play with players who don't appreciate you and on TV today when he was asked about it, he really looked uncomfortable

They had no faith in him that was sure to be seen. I remember Evra blanking him in the middle of the park and going for the harder pass out wide. He would have never done that with Scholes. I bit dissapointing from the French players to be fair.

I've said before in this thread that Gourcuff is a technically gifted Frank Lampard... the next Pirlo/Scholes type player he is not.
