He's a bit of a coward. Some players thrive on when the opposition is tough and physically rough but with him it's the entire opposite
Yeah when he was subbed he pretty much sprinted off.
Pffft. Ekeke, for all the criticism he can take today, surely the one thing you can't throw at him was that he wasn't involved. He was the most involved of all the French attackers. It was just a stalemate and he looked to me like he was simply trying too hard. He kept trying to do too much before he'd even got hold of the ball. a bit more composure and he would have been alright. In terms of technique, he has unquestionable ability when, like I say, he doesn't try too hard.
Thats bullshit... Govou apart, he was the second most invisible attacker on the pitch.

@ spammy: To be the most involved and to be the least effective at the same time is really worrying for a supposed playmaker

feck off. He was far more involved than Ribery, Anelka etc
The only player that had more touches than him going forward was Diaby.
Seriously, what game were you watching

I saw Ribery having half the amount of time on the ball, Toulalan had most of his touches in a defensive capacity, Anelka...he touched the ball 4 times on the first half and 5 times in the second half.
Ribery created the best chance and then played a lot like Nani on the left wing, trying to make things happen but being a bit inconsistant with the quality of his delivery. He didnt shy away he kept at it but it just wasnt happening for him after that cross to Govou.
Oh and he got little attacking support from Evra. But we'll just have to get used to seeing that from Evra as he doesnt seem to get forward much when I've seen him playing for France. I guess his star sign doesnt suit an attacking player or something.
It's been a typical performance from Ribery like you just described. He just tries and tries forever for zero efficiency overall
I thought Ribery was horrible. He's really stupid to try dribbling 2 players at the same time and he's too slow to release the ball sometimes which kills the passing flow.
Off topic but Ribery really is selfish and predictable when playing for France
Reminds me of Montolivo in that sense. Too modest, too nice. Which is probably why Montolivo's also struggled to impose himself in international football as well. He's a bit of a coward. Some players thrive on when the opposition is tough and physically rough but with him it's the entire opposite
Am I right about Evra as well? Or just the couple of matches I've seen from France recently? We're used to seeing him bombing on and becoming an extra left winger for United, but he barely seems to get forward for France when I've seen you play.
The amount of times he could have passed but just tried to get past 4 players on his own was shocking. He was terrible
Evra for United and Evra for France is like day and night. It's not due to a lack of effort nor motivation it's obviously there to see but I can't help noticing the same mistakes he makes offensively (poor controls and passing) and defensively (always getting by runs made behind him by wingers).Evra hardly makes the same fantastic runs we've been used to watch for United and when he does his final ball is always really bad.
Exactly.Probably what frustrated the most tonight, I mean it's not really hard to know that when you're double marked by vicious/dirty defenders it's wise to keep passing the ball rather to try unsuccessful dribbles over and over again. He's a good dribbler and has a great pace but he needs to use the very small amount of brain cells he's got.
This France team has got players who have delivered top class for clubs like Bayern, Chelsea, Man United, Bordeaux, Lyon, Arsenal and Barcelona. When all of them in looks somewhere between dire and unremarkable consistantly playing for Raymond Domenech, it starts to get irrelevant trying to assess their quality on the basis of performances with the national team. If Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney where playing in that top three, they would have been told to bulk up, get their head out of their arse and quit looking like a September 09 Nani version and why don't we get Diego Forlan instead.
It's completely irrelevant how anyone performs under that coach.
OMG sell Berbatov, buy Gourcuff, buy Silva, buy Aguero.
Now?Nah they are writing off Gourcuff now. He's rubbish.
If the other players actually passed the ball to him, we would've seen a better performance from him.
If he had had a good game I am pretty sure most of those lambasting him now would do the complete opposite.
One game in a World Cup doesn't make or break a player. From what I saw no one looked good yesterday. I haven't seen a lot of Gourcuff, as I have said in the past. But I don't think many on here have either, apart from the French and RICTR, who watches all matches in the world.
I've seen a fair bit of him and it doesn't surprise me, trust me, next game he could play like the next Zidane, then follow it up being even more inneffectual than last night. Consistency and menality are his problem. Hope he goes on to have a blinder though, i much prefer the world cup when all the talent are playing great.
Probably, as I said I don't know.
But you just know when you have a supposed United target play poorly in a high profiled (or UK televised) game that you will have the hords of redcafe.net claiming said player is not good enough.
