Yerry Mina - Everton Player

That's such basic reasoning, it simply doesn't apply. I remember posters spouting out this rubbish when Pogba signed. I even said pretty much that we'd be held ransom in the future because we paid such a hefty fee for Pogba and it sets a precedent going forward.

That's exactly what's happening now - every selling club will add a good 30% as a premium because it's United and we will pay whatever. But we can't pay whatever - even we have constraints.
Yes, but while we’re waiting for the market to calm down we’re wasting time. We simply need to win the league next year. Nothing else will be good enough. I’d say we have a better chance without signing Mina.

I think Mina would be great for playing in a 100% defensive where he does not need to run backwards. Being slow wouldn't be a problem if he has the midfielders so close and when opponent would try to break the defence with high balls he would be always the first. Then add his offensive power in attack during fouls and corners that nobody has doubts.

The problem is that Man Utd cannot and should never play like this.

You paid a perfectly fair fee for Pogba. In the light of the current market it's even arguable that Juventus should have got more for him. He was a world class midfielder with blockbuster potential on the pitch and a very marketable individual, so a record fee was pretty much inevitable. Teams will always demand bigger fees from teams who have more money, nothing you do will really change that, they're aware you have resources to burn and aren't going to get ripped off.

If we sign Mina then we are in bigger trouble than I thought. He hasn't shown any ability to be better than any of our current CB's apart from Rojo.

There appears to be a serious lack of forward thinking at the club.

No we didn't. He wasn't an 89m player then and he's not today.

Disagree, but if you don't rate him that's fair. The market is at a point where the likes of Zaha are valued at 60-70m and teams like Everton are blowing big money on the likes of Richarlison. Teams outside the Premier League know the league is flowing in money so aren't going to be mugged off and sell for a discount fee.

It's for another thread. But Zaha hasn't gone anywhere yet and Richarlison is seen as an overpayment by all, even in todays market.

It's like when Luiz went to PSG for 50m and everyone said its ludacris. No one said "oh well. Going rate now". They said "that's a ripoff how did Chelsea pull it off!". It's that sort of thing with Richarlison.

Pogba is a good player for his talents but his performances haven't justified his fee. I think that's quite a fair statement, personally.

Back to Mina though, if we got him for 40 and sold Rojo to Everton for 30, it may well be good business.

No idea about Dembele but Demebele is an incredible talent. Mina may be better than his stint at Barcelona suggests but I've never heard anyone claim hes that outstanding a talent. Also Barcelona won't let him go because they know he's a special talent. IMO of course.

You've lost me there.

You don't think Barca would sell Mina? I'm thinking Lenglet's addition maybe softens their stance.

Yeah, 'tis not the thread for it. I don't see how Mina is worth anywhere near 40 .. Barca need to sell due to registration rules and he barely played for them. Being good in Brazil and a few world cup games should not give him that pricetag. Can definitely see Everton paying OTT for Rojo.

Totally agree. I hope that this Mina talk is just media orientated. We really need to be looking at quality and sign Alderweireld if at all possible. Levy will probably string it out to the last minute but he’s a quality defender with premier league experience. Mina has got nowhere near the Barca first team and all I saw him do at the World Cup was wrestle our forwards to the ground in the box, he is not Utd quality and if we sign this joker it’s a sorry state of affairs at our club.

Maybe mouronho thinks he can make him a better defender just like pique became to be.but i am concerned that we would be long ball specialists even more.i think we can probably win a trophy if we choose a team with the tallest players.

What's the connection between Mourinho and Pique?

well ..Pique was not considered a good defender at Manutd .Only when he left for Barca he became a very good defender.
He left as a 21 year old prospect. How many 21 year olds do you think would get into a team that had prime Rio and Vidic starting for them? And I still don't see the connection between Pique improving as a footballer because of Mourinho.

Surely we are after a player who can go straight into the first team and improve us straight away. Pretty much any CB across Europe is an improvement over Rojo, we already have 2 works in progress in Lindelof and Bailly - we don’t need a third. He might turn out to be a good player, but he’s not the profile we need at the moment.

Mina averaged what? 1 interception and 1 tackle per game? They played the worst Polish side I've seen in years, beat Senegal and held England to a draw with him on the pitch. He won 4-5 headers per game, most of them in the attacking third.

He didn't play 4 matches, but 3 and hardly was imposing figure in the defence either. He got most of the credit because of the decisive goals more than his defensive contribution if you ask me.

Varane averaged 0.1 tackle per game and 0.7 interceptions per game, Varane's had the worst tackles per game among CBs in world cup. Still he was the best CB in the world cup.

Umtiti won 0.7 tackles per game and 0.8 interceptions per game, he also averaged 1.9 headers per game.

Tackles and interceptions says nothing about CBs.

Last season Mustafi averaged 2.4 tackles and 2.1 interceptions per game in PL, that's among the best in PL and he was among the worst CBs in the league.

Pretty sure United is tapping into Mina to boost other negotiations, or if it’s not the other way around - which may seem ever more realistic - that it is Mina’s agent who’s jacking up wages, transfer fee etc. ahead of moving to Everton or simmilar.

After that world cup he's 100 million

No he's not. You perform for your club and you're worth the price tag.

He may well transcend his national form to club form this season and I hope he does. But until he does so I don't see the value yet.

Other than modric, I don't see a better no8 in the world. Pogba is such a confidence dependent player and the world champion title will do him good. Captain material and a commercial giant. We need to build around him. I am pro in fantasy league so I know what I'm talking about when I look at underlying stats.

Mina can be one of the greatest CBs to come. He didn't wrestle English forwards, his teammates did. Mina is such a beast on set pieces. I watched all of Colombia's games. His lack of pace will be covered by the fastest CB in Europe in Bailly. Bailly is weak on heading so Mina is a great complement

I don’t want to play Mina down mate as he’s still a big question mark. Not saying he sucks or something but rather the sample size of his performances is too small and he didn’t really excelled defensively in those games but rather with his decisive goals.

The teams they faced were really underwhelming as well and England didn’t really attack that much over the course of the game either.

We better focus getting a CB that we need in Toby rather than getting yet another young inexperienced defender in.

That is totally incorrect. We wanted Pique to stay but he wanted to move back to barca. Fergie knew he was quality

You don't have to play him down. He's a prospect player that's already said he can't take the pressure at a top club like Barca. He's wrong for us on two fronts already. He's an everton/arsenal type player. Wants an easy ride.

Yeah we should sign Toby as we need proven players and he is miles better than other targets. I was just saying tackles and interceptions don't tell much for CBs.

Sure, but he wasn't the commanding CB type either or relying on positional sense and leading the line. Sanchez was the one. He's the more stopperish type who would attack the first ball in defence.

I don't like either Maguire or him to be honest as we need a cool head at the back but if I have to choose I'd rather have the former. Mina might very well crumble under pressure from the media and playing for United just as playing for Barca.

Basically he wants to play for Everton.
he's basically a "prospect" version of what we have. The second he was dropped, he'd never get back in the team for any kind of spell and he basically becomes smalling/jones/rojo-like where he would play the odd game and then we'd have to offload to burnley or Celta Vigo in 2 seasons.
