Yann M’Vila

Three-four years ago I would have gladly taken the up coming midfielder but now he seems stuck as in no position in midfield is his best position.

Will be interesting to see how he progresses, if he does at all wherever he moves to.

You say no position is his best position, I read he is not one dimensional and has the attributes of an all-round midfielder, which is exactly what we could do with.

That's one way to look at it but then the thing is very few midfielders are given a license to roam and that is only because they are at a higher level than M'Villa, he is not at that high a level so giving him that freedom at the top level is stupid and won't happen. Then the truth is like I said before he is not brilliant in any midfield position, positionally suspect at DM, doesn't have that great a technical ability to play successfully at CM and influence games consistently and ditto in the attacking position.

Unless of course if United want him as a utility player which I think he will be excellent for any team and help to fill in gaps in the squad but then it would be strange to buy such an expensive utility player.

He could of course prove me wrong but this is the impression I get from him.

We should go for Alou Diarra instead as he is 30 years old and would be very cheap and is playing great for France in the same position as M'Vila and keeping himout of the team and that would give Fergie a chance to try to bring the young players through like Tunicliffe and Cleverley without hampering their progress too much

I never argued he should be roaming, more along the lines of utility in that he can backup Carrick much better than anyone else here and play alongside him when we need two more defensively sound players.

He is not a monster DM of the destroyer type that many mention, but a very tidy holding midfielder, powerful, athletic, with a good passing range and excellent potential.

Basically, wouldn't look out of place in either of our central midfield roles and could grow into being an important and regular first team player. That to me sounds like a good investment at 20M.

M'vila is 21 and played 20 games for France. He's not keeping him out the team .:wenger:

It's injuries keeping M'Vila out of the team isn't it?

No, apparently M'Vila is fully fit. He was only hurt against England. Diarra's form is just too good to drop him. The guy has been a monster so far in the tournament, and it would currently be very difficult to bring M'Vila back in.

Diarra wouldn't be such a bad option for us. He would just need to be replaced in two years. I guess I'd prefer a longer term option.

Because of the ankle injury, M'Villa only played three minutes in France's last two warm-up games. IMO it was all about getting him back involved gradually.

Alou Diarra is too slow and immobile for my liking.

Getting him back sharp. I'd expect him to start in the knock-outs.

We'll see. If diarra's form doesn't drop in the last game, I expect diarra to keep his place. He has really been stellar for them so far as he seems to win everything that comes near him and offers a great deal of height on set pieces. He doesnt lose the ball much either. anyway you could be right...we'll just have to wait to find out

Didnt make a tackle tonight. Lots of passes.

yeah, m'vila was pretty poor i thought. diarra put in another good performance. diarra might have to play center defense against spain though in the quarter finals since mexes is out.

Koscielny is available ( and miles better than Mexes).

Koscielny will be way too inexperienced for Spain.I'd play Diarra at the back and M'Vila at the back.
Koscielny will cost us a penalty or a red card with his stupid tackling

I thought he might handle after how he faired vs Barca in an Arsenal shirt.

But Diara-M'villa would be a better option. The question is who would partner Cabaye ahead of them?

Another question I have is can France switch to 3-5-2 like the Italian's did?

About the 3-5-2 switch, I don't see it ever happening as it's never been tried once before.
Cabaye was greatly missed in midfield as his simple passing game makes our game a lot more fluid.
Koscielny will probably play though as Blanc will need Diarra in midfield more than ever. The scoreline will depend on Spain's mood, if they want to they can trash this France team

Indeed. IMO it seems the only playing system team can use that can keep at bay that Spanish side currently unfortunately.

True.

I wonder would he play M'villa, Diarra and Cabaye at the same time in midfield?

I don't remember Koscielny conceding any penalties in last 2 seasons(Against Barca probably on Pedro).

Plus his stupid tackles always happen when he is out of box, closing the center forward who is about to receive the high ball, but since Spain hardly play that way, that won't be a worry.

He will be playing against Torres and Koscielny with his pace is ideal for him, if in case you guys push your defensive line forward.

Huh? Instead of two centerbacks such as Rami-Koscielny at CB, you'd rather play two midfielders in Diarra and M'Vila there?

I don't know how good Diarra or M'Vila are at CB, but surely they are midfielders first and at best makeshift CBs?

 My mistake, I meant Diarra at the back and M'Vila in midfield

Just shows how bad they are in midfield if an extremely limited player like Diarra is their best CM/DM in this tournament.

Cabaye has been better tbh but Blanc didn't even play him last night :wenger:

The rumours were that it was all but a done deal - until Wenger heard about his apprent attitude problem. Apprently disruptive and tends to be at the centre of any trouble for club or country.

Where did you hear that ?

I thought the agent fees was a problem?

Absolutely not. He is talented and is a poorer man's Javi Martinez in my opinion in the sense that he can sit back and play as a defensive mid while at the same time be a deep lying playmaker as well.

ive seen him play 5 times. every single time he was rubbish. he's one of these flavour of the month type player everbody on here bums for a month or so and then goes onto the next one. he's a djemba djemba watinging to happen

About the same for me. The only time he convinced me that he might be good was in a friendly against Germany but every other time I have seen him in competitive matches I saw nothing to suggest that he might be anything more then average.

Then again 5 games isn't really much and he might be one of those players how can't play at the same level for his country as he plays for his club, so I will rather trust the judgement on people who see him play on a regular basis instead of base my opinion on him on 4-5 games for France.

Well he's a tackler and a midfielder with high pass output to have some control in the midfield.

As I said in the thread about us and a defensive midfielder, Carrick made just as many tackles last season and of course has a high pass output himself.

But I guess he's not a Frenchman playing for another club with a cool name
