Xherdan Shaqiri

I thought we'd turn our attention elsewhere, the lallana interest died off as soon as they wanted crazy money. Wouldn't mind signing him, but personally I would rather be in for someone who's cheaper and would save a chunk of our transfer budget for other areas.

Nah, you're still in for Lallana, just trying to make out in the press like you're willing to go elsewhere so that you don't have to pay £30m. Bet you'll end up paying c.£27m for him.

I'm watching France but apparently he scored two stunning goals tonight. Could the attention now scupper Liverpool's hopes of signing him?

He's been pretty disappointing in this World Cup, tbh. Honduras are a terrible team and have gotten this far largely due to their physical nature. But while the 1st goal was sublime, it was Shaqiri's textbook goal - not sure how Honduras hadn't properly scouted that. Not unlike Robben, giving him that space to drift centrally from the right and wind up that left of his is simply suicide. He's played well tonight as has Inler who had been nothing more than a spectator the last 2 matches

He's a great talent no doubt but given his quality, he's been underwhelming. I think he needs to leave Bayern to develop properly

I think he's only finding his rhythm now in the world cup after such a long time on the bench for Bayern. Hopefully Bayern will be looking at his performance tonight and decide that the time is right to cash in on Robben if we offer them mega bucks. If they don't want to part with Robben then we should absolutely go for Shaqiri. I remember Shaqiri tearing us a new one in 2011 in the champions league with Basel when no one had heard of him before. After that match everyone wanted Fergie to sign him but he opted for Bayern instead.

Shaqiri would be an outstanding purchase for anyone in the premier league...hopefully not Liverpool

He's mediocre. Occasional flashes of excellence and a hollywood shot in his locker but not a consistent contributor.

My problem is if he can produce moments of excellence already then he can become more consistent as he's only 22.

I thought Coutinho was a bit of a show pony too but he turned out good for Liverpool. I'd rather they didn't get him as I think he could become something like Hazard with his dribbling, balance and strong build.

You might be right, I suppose. That said, he's the same age as Hazard. If we were still talking about a 19-year-old then fair enough, but he's made zero progress since he was that age - he was already the inconsistent, occasionally explosive player then that he is now. Going to Bayern is proving to be the mistake that people suspected it might be.

Bear in mind I'm not saying he's terrible, just that I don't rate him as a top prospect. Coutinho is probably not a bad comparison - good for an in-form Liverpool last season, but unlikely to ever be good enough to start for one of the European giants.

People are complaining about him being inconsistent. But the fact of the matter is he has never had a consistent run of games in the first team. He was doing well at Basel but was too raw with potential and now with Bayern he is obviously behind Ribery and Robben. Its like the youngsters in Spain. Its not necessarily their fault per say when they have world class players ahead of them. I think he is being underrated and can do well if he plays in week in week out.

He certainly might have made more progress with his football if he hadn't moved to Bayern, but the fact is that he did, and so he hasn't, and it shows in his football despite occasional excellent games like this (although arguably Drmic deserves as much credit for his hattrick as he does). No-one made him sign for Bayern.

No one made him sign for Bayern but when a club of their stature come calling and you are playing in Switzerland of course you take that chance.

Maybe you do, but then you inevitably get very little game time behind Robben, Ribery, Muller and Gotze and your development stalls. Which is what the 'people complaining about him being inconsistent' are talking about.

Götze was signed after Shaqiri signed. So I guess you can say Pep doesn't rate him as highly. Or to cover for injury because Robben was injury prone.

Yes, probably as cover basically. Which most people realised when he was signed. Even he must have known really.

He would be a very good signing for all PL clubs bar Chelsea and City. His biggest weakness is his decision making. He has the body, the mentality and the technique to become a starter for a club that wants to play CL. His injuries really didnt help him last year and in hindsight he should have left one year ago. Bad luck. He is still young enough to make up for it.

Whoever buys him, will make a good deal.

Didn't he join Bayern only two years ago?

Correct, he joined in 2012. He came as a very promising talent but hasn't really delivered as much as I wanted him to. In fairness to him he had Robben and Ribery as competition which didn't really help him.

With Ribery's back problems now I'm not sure whether the board would let him go. That being said, I wouldn't be sad to see him being sold. As long as we've got a decent replacement lined up that is. Someone like Griezmann or James Rodriguez (if he can play as a winger?) would do nicely.

He's brilliant. I remember him playing for Basel. We should go after him if he's available. He's better than anything we've got, and he's young enough that he can kick on and reach another level.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the sensation of his hattrick yesterday, he's been largely absent from this WC otherwise. For me, his career/development has stalled for more than a year now. He's young still so there's time to make the jump to world class but he's not there yet

Didint he win the man of the match fort their first game also?
I watched every Bayerngame since he came. WHEN he got a chance he took it most of the time. My memory could trick me but I have the feeling that he has very fine scorer stats in terms of scorer and minutes.
22 till october. He should worth 20 million. I would sell him then. Not quiteee Bayern good I feel. But we are top 2 in the world. He would have been a top 14 player in the Bayern teams of the late 2000s. Bad luck.

Would love him at Spurs but won't happen. Can see Pocchetino giving Lamela a real chance which is good, as he certainly has potential.

To be fair we need a left sided winger really, Chadli is a joke.

He right now is only a backup - and that would mean that Julian Green could maybe get some minutes and it would release some tension in the rival situation. Even without Ribery we have Robben, Lewandowski, Müller, Götze and Pizarro five first class solutions for three spots in offense who really can play in different shapes and on different positions.

I can understand that Shaqattack ain't satisfied with his situation - and I can imagine that they let him go if he asks for and brings a new club.

confirmed?

Sturridge, Lallana, Sterling, Shaquiri - Suarez is most certainly off then.

Shaqiri was linked to them anyway & Sturridge is the only one out of that list who plays in Suarez' position so while I do think he'll leave anyway, Shaqiri's signing(if he does, nowt's confirmed) won't change much.

Doubt this deal will go through for at least another week since the Swiss are still in the WC.

Shaquiri was headed there before the Suarez thing escalated

I don't think that Lallana or Shaqiri is going as a squad players without any guarantee of starting - Shaquiri was very unhappy about his role in Bayern. And Rodgers will not rotate Sturridge and Suarez if they stay, that leaves their best young prospect on the bench. It just too many definite starters in the attacking line-up for me with only Lambert being ready to seat on the bench - if Suarez won't go there would be some squad issues, I think. They were linked with him before all of the Suarez's rumors, but they didn't sign Lallana before that.

It's a good signing for the depth, if only this wasn't a player that vocally said that he needs to play every game and that he is unhappy any other way.

If they would manage to keep Suarez, good atmosphere and not to forget that they need defenders on the pitch too, then I would say that Rodgers is brilliant at man-managing. He can easily prove me wrong, of course.

Still, they need holding midfielder, centre-backs and a full-back more then another attacking talent if they are to keep Suarez.

I already have an irrational hatred of Shaquiri just simply due to his face, so thinking of him as a Liverpool player should be a comfortable transition for me :nono:

Looked like this guy was Liverpool bound a few weeks ago, what happened?

I think he's a great talent, Bayern seem willing to sell and he wouldn't cost that much although I'm not sure how high his wages would be. I expected a few clubs to be fighting for him, doesn't look that way though. I think when he leaves and is given a run of games he'll turn into a top player. Would happily have him at United.

Been in discussions with Roma apparently, will probably end up there.

Too right, looks like Liverpool have chosen Markovich instead, they already have Coutinho and Lallana so suppose they couldn't go for both. I think Shaqiri would be an asset to any team in the Prem.
