Xherdan Shaqiri

Nope, I'm sure it never occurred to anyone to be bothered at the idea of Liverpool being in the Champions League and not us.

Well, that's something you learned today, then. :boring:

My point is - why aren't the posts above ( apart from sun_tzu's) reflecting that fear? We're talking about how great he'd be playing for us already. Well, Messi is going to be great playing for us, too - doesn't mean we're getting him.

I was expecting a reply arguing why we might be a better destination than Liverpool - but bet that never occurred to you either, eh?

I hope we sign him. Bringing in this lad and Firmino and Suso coming back would sort our attack.

He'd be fantastic for us, and would be an instant upgrade over the wingers we have now.

Yeah, youve been linked with him for a while now.

I reckon you'll be straight back in for Kono though instead.

I reckon Firmino will join Wolfsburg. Volkswagen is pouring serious money into the club these days.

Shaqiri to Liverpool seems like a great fit though.

Would be a cracking signing for us. Fast, strong and direct, would be an improvement over our current wingers and if he's willing to leave Bayern then we should definitely be interested.

He will most likely take over Robben when he starts to decline although he has just signed a new contract till 2017 so can't see Shaqiri waiting around that long on the periphery. He could also take Ribery's position as both are approaching 30 or over 30 now. Bayern won't want him to leave as they now they have a ready made replacement and a top youngster on their hands.

Though to be fair, the majority of Bayern fans no longer believes Shaqiri will ever reach the heights of Robben or Ribéry. His performances were especially on the left wing far too disappointing to consider him an heir to the Frenchman. He's just too one-footed and hence one-dimensional in his approach.

Still a very good player which he shows especially on the right wing or down the middle. His darting runs and through-balls are simply fantastic and he's got the physique and speed for the Premiere League

However Liverpool should be aware of his strengths and weaknesses in case they explicitly search for a new left winger.

He would have been a good addition for us, but he said he'd only go to a club in the Champions League.

BILD: Liverpool have started preliminary talks with#FCBayernconcerning Xherdan Shaqiri. Willing to pay up to €20m. #LFC
Hope its not true but it would make sense for both parties and certainly I think he would improve Liverpool.
probably signals the end of their lallana pursuit if true (so no doubt we will start to be linked with him again in the papers / by his agent)

He'd be a great signing for them, cheaper, younger, better and more or less as versatile as Lallana.

Another one who gets talked up too much by hipster types. Made little impression at Munich. Will go to Liverpool, like Sakho did and show himself to be undeserving of much of his hype.

He's still too much hit and miss. Not playing on a regular basis doesnt help. He has his brilliant moments but now it is important he plays week in week out.

I thought we'd turn our attention elsewhere, the lallana interest died off as soon as they wanted crazy money. Wouldn't mind signing him, but personally I would rather be in for someone who's cheaper and would save a chunk of our transfer budget for other areas.

If we have a decent replacement lined up I'd be willing to let him go. €20m is a good amount I reckon. He has been a bit hit and miss, I've never been that impressed by him. Might just be me though.

It would be really difficult to make impact on the team which has two of the best wingers in the world (Robben and Robery) while has also on mix players like Muller, Gotze and Kroos who can all play on one of the positions behind the striker.

He is really good and would be an upgrade on the wingers we have. He will also be a very good signing for Liverpool. Better than Lallana IMO.

He's mediocre. Occasional flashes of excellence and a hollywood shot in his locker but not a consistent contributor.

Barely seen him playing at Bayern, but can you really blame him when your competition is Ribery and Robben?

Still, he was a beast at Basel. Will be a good signing for the 'Pool. Explosive in terms of strength and quite an intelligent one. Think he can get a bit greedy at times though.

Definitely a step in the right direction for Liverpool though.

That is extremely unfair on the guy. He is still young and is better than all our wingers barring an injury free Nani.

Injury free Nani...Jesus he was booed off when injury free. Please give up the ghost.

He was booed off after having one poor game and Moyes was applauded after decimating us. Tells you all there is to say about fan bias.

He's mediocre, I've not seen anything special about this lad. We can't make much progress if "better than what we have" is what we want to aim at, trust be told, it doesn't take much to be better than Ashley Young, does it?

Absolutely and I'm glad for the player if it ends up working out. He wasn't going to supplant Robben or Ribery anytime soon and wasn't even used often enough by Pep as an impact sub. Absolutely wasted on the left, as well. Plus, let's face it, Germany has a lot of young talented wide players to replace him with and won't suffer from lack of playing time at this stage

Suisse fans will be pleased because his development has definitely slowed. Hopefully the pace & strength of the Premier League combined with Rodgers at Liverpool will give him the best chance of taking his game up another level

He's still young and a brilliant player, his lack of starts at Bayern can't be blamed on him, he's to complete against some of the best players in the world. Could be one of the signings of the season, considering £16m is a very good price. Think that's how much Bayern paid for him.

He's only young, he'll improve. "Better than what we have" is an alright thing to be looking at in young players who have the potential to go on and be a lot better, it's only something that should be avoid when you're talking established/peak players.

We paid €12m.

It's really time for him to move on. After the Götze signing, it was obvious that he would see even less game time than the season before. Bad timing for him to join Bayern, though I'm sure he learned a lot in his two years at the club. But now he needs to start regularly at a very high level, a move to Liverpool makes a lot of sense in my opinion. He shouldn't have problems with the more physical game in England and he fits great into Rodgers' style of football.

They got him for around €9m + about €3m in add ons.

played well for Basel. wanted him here before he went to Bayern

Good player but he reminds me of Nani in the way that his main problem is consistency. He can be fantastic when on form but when he's poor, he's awful.

Still, I think he'd do well for Liverpool. But do they really need another attacker? It's looking likely that they'll sign Lallana after the World Cup and they've already bought Lambert . I think they have a few players coming back from loan (Suso etc.) as well so they seem well stocked in that department. Besides, attacking was hardly a problem for them last season, they would've won the league had it not been for their rubbish defence.

I'm hardly an expert on the matter but I would've thought Liverpool would've been more focused on fixing their biggest problem first rather than signing players that, whilst improving the overall squad, they don't absolutely need.

But the thing is, young doesn't always mean they'll improve. We should be looking at players who have real potential to be something very good/special, and never have I watched this guy and thought he is. He's all huff and puff, that's all.

No - you cannot blame him for the less starts. He might have thought he can make it when he came to Bayern - and at this time Arjen often has been injured - but he just does not have more quality than to be a substitute player at Bayern and a lot of us doubt if he in the future - when Ribery or Robben might be gone - could be more.

On the right winger position where he plays for the national team Arjen and Thomas are competing with each other - whenever there is no other position available for one of them. And on the left there is Ribery (or Götze, Müller or Robben)

He has been a good substitute - but seldom really played a good match as a starter.

But - physically he has probably everything. The aspect he is really behind Müller, Robben, Ribery and Götze is his playing intelligence - especially in such a complex system and with the players surrounding him at Bayern.

But he is a top player - just not world class or near world class like the teammates on his positions. Would be a starter at most other teams - but Bayern is extremely packed...
