Wii U was 60fps right for MK8 just not in splitscreen I think? Obviously there's the 200 mode too where Wii U was limited to 150 (or maybe they DLC'd 200 in, can't remember)

Not strictly true in SP either, they used some decent frame smoothing, but it was never 60 constant despite claims. If you ever get the time, can be bothered, play a race back to back on them both, even on 100cc the difference is noticeable, on 150cc there are actual brake points on a couple of tracks on the Switch compared to the WiiU tracks.

And I can't remember either if it had 200 on the WiiU, it did have reverse though I think.

Unlucky @esmufc07 you are missing out.

I don't do PC shooters and can't play mouse n keyboard but I am up for most multiplayer games on Xbox, PS5 or Switch

A mariokart tourney would be good though I definitely need practise. I've barely touched the Switch version as I hammered the Wii U game (this is my experience with Switch generally to be honest).

I played with a few people here before. Snowjoe and @Havak I think, and Havak seemed particularly good
I was pretty good at Mario Kart but I never bought it on the Switch either as I hammered the Wii U one as well haha. I meant to get it but never got around to it and now I'd be expecting a new game in a year or two (Mario Kart 8 is technically over six years old if we count the original Wii U release). I know it's still selling incredibly well so Nintendo is in less of a rush than ever before, but the longest ever gap between two Mario Kart games before this was only five years, albeit it's slightly different now that they aren't releasing a home console and handheld version. I'll still be surprised if we get much over eight years without Mario Kart 9.

I actually won a competition in Manchester Arndale one time and another in Manchester Piccadilly Train Station on Mario Kart 7. The first one was a pre-release event on time trials and I topped the leaderboard while the other was 8-player races after the game released. I won some really cool Mario Kart Trophies for this.

Sorry to derail the Xbox thread

Buy a Switch.

@Alock1 @Redlambs

Mario Kart 8 on Wii U did have 200CC added in DLC (I think 200CC might have been a free update actually but released at the same time as the first DLC pack). It was very close to 720p and 60fps, it had occasional dips to 58-59 but was very stable except for one problem. If you watch very carefully on Wii U, you can see that the game has a single frame drop almost on a timer, it happens all the way through the game in every race, but most people won't notice as it's a pretty small thing. Just something like every 10 seconds a frame will drop for some reason. Digital Foundry did a piece on it and the Switch version has managed to remove this and stays at 60, while upping to 1080p also. Switch version also includes all the DLC and a much improved battle mode.

Man, some of these games are chonk. Halo: MC is over 120gb which is about 120% of the available space on the S.

Currently installed - Forza Horizon 4, Knights and Bikes, Tetris Connected, Bloodstained, Ori the first.

Also added about 30 games to my 'play later' list. Never gonna get round to them...

Yeah it was on Wii U we played it!!

I loved Mario Kart 8 and thought it was probably the best kart racer ever but it hasn't had the longevity for me I'd expected.

No wonder you beat me with all those tourney wins

Can I come round and play

No, we in lockdown. Come on you know that.

And the download speeds are atrocious now. I was averaging 700mps and now it’s gone to 35.

I have added Tetris effect to my download list. You know the game you mocked. No need to download Gears because I finished it on PC.

Both new gen systems really do look awful

It's big but standing up I think it looks decent if you have the room for it. I'll probably put mine behind the TV at some point but otherwise it just looks like a speaker / subwoofer. People visiting wouldn't look twice at it.

Ah not just me then! I thought it was cause I was playing Ori but I thought these consoles didn't drastically slow down when playing another game now. Just because everybody's on and downloading then.

Damn.

Why have these new generation consoles been so hard to get hold of? Is it just down to the pandemic slowing down manufacturing and distribution? or is there a much higher demand? I don’t remember previous gen consoles being this scarce. You could walk into most stores on launch day and easily pick one up or they’d have plenty stock online but not this time.

bae has just checked-in at tamworth UPS. She's made it over the channel.

So far, quick resume is working for me. I know that there were some issues with it before launch.

Seems to be happening with almost everything these days, Im not sure but I attach it to the 'Instagram' culture. They hype for limited products whilst being plastered all over insta and facebook causes huge demand.

The 360 and Wii were worse. PS4 wasn’t really good either.

And you probably would have been able to pick one up if it wasn’t for a pandemic as Asda and John Lewis started taking orders today. They were probably saving those for stores.

 Just spent 2 hours in a queue on game's website and every option is out of stock...and they are still letting people queue

Would have been a waste of my time if I wasn't doing other stuff while waiting...

Yeah, actually thought they would be slightly easier to come by in a way with so many people with job insecurity at the moment or little income in the past few months.

So did anyone have any luck with any retailers today? I know this is a no no here, but I wanna know which will give me the best chance at a ps5 on that release day.

I was looking for something small to dl so I downloaded Tetris Effect and this game looks incredible. Banging soundtrack, as well.

More people using internet shopping instead of going to stores, so pre orders are up way more than usual?

They did say the pandemic has halted production also, but I think the pre order worldwide was as high as they expected.

I thought download speeds were way down earlier and had now fixed themselves, but when I went back to Forza Horizon 4 (which says upgrade now instead of update now like Gears 5 despite both being a next gen patch) it's downloading between 0 Mbps and 5 Mbps. Gears 5 next gen patch it at 500mbps.

Anybody else had this issue before or specifically today with Horizon?

You're probably being limited by the x box servers right? I'd suspect everybody downloading at the same time is causing issues their end - but I could be wrong.

That's what I thought. But Gears 5 is downloading at 500 mbps, which Horizon 4 isn't even reaching 5 Mbps. And I doubt it's about specific game demand as Gears 5 would be similarly high on the list of most downloaded games today I suspect.

Can it only download 1 game at those speeds? once that finishes it might then move onto the other with full power.
