Can it only download 1 game at those speeds? once that finishes it might then move onto the other with full power.

Sorry. I paused Gears to continue Horizon 4 then went back to Gears. You can only download one at a time.

Nevermind I'll just delete Horizon and start again with the Series X version rather than trying to 'upgrade' and hope that fixes it

My god, sea of thieves loading times are sooooo much better. Also smoother, that 30fps to 60fps buff is very noticeable.

I thought download speeds were way down earlier and had now fixed themselves, but when I went back to Forza Horizon 4 (which says upgrade now instead of update now like Gears 5 despite both being a next gen patch) it's downloading between 0 Mbps and 5 Mbps. Gears 5 next gen patch it at 500mbps.

Anybody else had this issue before or specifically today with Horizon?

I had an update earlier on my One X for Warzone and Rogue Company.

both started downloading pathetically, around 5mb/s max, sometimes down to KB/s - but after 5 minutes they ramped up to my usual speed of 200.

Amazon have screwed me over. Order suggests it’s being delivered today by 10pm. However have had no despatch email or any other info. Just hope they haven’t ran out of stock

Anyone else a bit deflated with the X?

I don't know - I guess it's because I've turned it on - and it's not really any different from my One S - just a little bit snappier between menus but thats it? I've purchased via XAA so I'm paying £30 a month for what my One S was doing for free... ?

I guess it's because the controller is the same, the same UI, no awesome exclusive launch titles etc.

Hopefully I'll feel better as I play more but right now feeling a bit down.

Exactly the same as me. Live chat was not convincing. One person said there’s been an issue with the courier and it will be tomorrow. The other said definitely today. I’m pretty sure neither of them had a clue.

Uh oh! Youve somehow made me much less excited for getting either or the new consoles you bugger.

But you knew all this before getting the console?

We did know all that but I can still understand it. PS5 will definitely have a much 'newer' feel and you'll want to find out what the UI is capable of, as well as play astro bot and feel the new controller. The novelty definitely wear off quicker with the Series X.

It's the same as getting a new phone. You end up having one or two new features at best that you spend 30 seconds on and never use again but otherwise it's just quicker and smoother and better at multi tasking.

But you knew all this before getting the console?
Yes? Doesn't change how I feel.

haha - depends what you're upgrading from I guess? I will say Valhalla in 4K is stunning - 60 fps etc. So don't get me wrong - it's not bad - but it's just not the usual feeling I get when I upgrade a generation (yet....)

That's exactly why I didn't upgrade my One S and am moving to Sony for this next generation.

If you missed out on the last Xbox, it would be fresh enough, but this just seems like a minor upgrade within the same generation in terms of aesthetics and UI etc. Not enough for me to warrant spending £400+

I'm back on Live Chat to Amazon. This was their response to saying it still hasn't been dispatched:
wow this Xbox is like the product of the day ! I have had so many people enquire me an=bout this today :P
I am really sorry to inform you that this wont be delivered today, it still needs to be dispatched
What the feck? What an infuriating response.

They then went on to say this:
this item is what everyone wants to get their hands on so there has been a lot of problem with high rate delivery with this item
yess I got to know that as someone else I spoke to took an off to receive this item !
its like the product of the day at this point
No shit, dickhead. As if Amazon can't deal with a high rate of delivery for feck's sake.

I was actually just disappointed until this. Now I'm pissed off.

I can understand it being a reason to choose PS5 instead but it's a huge improvement on hardware and in software we have a strong gamepass and a huge studio list to get first party games from. It's an absolutely massive upgrade on last gen. It just doesn't have the lick of paint that PS5 has.

New engine, new chassis, new seats, triples top speed and way more efficient but yes, still the same steering wheel and the same seats.

New isn't always better and whilst the UI isn't new it is timed tested and absolutely rapid now. It was sluggish before.

For what's in the box and the form factor it's delivered in, it's great value vs a gaming pc. More bang for your buck than PS5 (yes no new UI or increased vibrations but more power) too.

I think thats the saving grace for me - I'm paying that £30 a month to have Game Pass as well of course - so I've got all the first party stuff for the next couple of years. I'm hopeful they start to knock out some great games (can't wait for Fable and Halo for example).

Yeah, I'm trying to pick my words carefully to avoid this turning into a Xbox vs PS5 discussion

I agree with the first part, hence why I specifically mentioned UI and aesthetics, as both consoles seem to have massive leaps in terms of loading speeds and QoL improvements etc.

PlayStation scum

(All fair enough mate)

Close to cancelling. Had one thing to look forward to all year but it's just an infuriating experience at this point. Have a bad feeling it won't arrive for weeks.
Nah it will come tomorrow. It’s shit because as you say it’s something you’ve been looking forward to for months. But over a million people have died of coronavirus Veeva so count your blessings.

Stepson just opened the Series S it's shockingly small. I mean I was expecting it to be small but damn it's crazy.

The pad feels that little bit better too with the extra grip and better D pad.

You’ve spent more time posting on RedCafe than playing with your new console. Tells me all I need to know.

Nope. I spent last hour on Tetris and going to play some Yakuza tonight. Just been downloading my games but the speeds are garbage.

I'm not convinced. Amazon don't appear to have a clue where it is.

I thought I was clever by putting Valhalla on my external HDD - then when X came I transferred it across to internal drive (took a while). Yet it then needed an update too.... so had to wait for 46gb to be downloaded - agreed the speeds are (understandably) crap right now!

Regarding the lack of UI update, MS iterate on this every month with minor updates or a major change every year or so. I know it's not a big refresh, but this has been a work in progress for ages and I think they finally got it mostly right. It's much snappier and easy to get to things, I find.

Regarding the console itself, hefty beast, it has already just fit into the shelving unit around the TV, a nice unobtrusive design.

The real improvements are seen in how games perform, and based on my limited look at games optimised for the system, the upgrade is pretty impressive. Even coming from a One X.

I think the thing is, a lot of people want a console upgrade to feel like a full change of experience and it's going to disappoint in that regard. There's a digital foundry article up about the series S where they go into detail about the difficulties of trying to keep pushing forward with technological gains and the slowly diminishing returns. The likelihood is that Consoles are going to stop being a thing in the future, as we move towards better internet infrastructure. Judging by what Sony have done it feels like the distinctions in generations, should they continue, would be more about the surrounding experience (like the Dual Sense) rather than massive leaps in graphical performance. In that sense, Sony have positioned themselves better, whereas MS have tried to wring every bit of horsepower they can out of their money.

As many people ask that question in the OT, I think it helps more to have a thread about this.
Not sure if this is a bug but as soon as ANY game is running actively (games in hibernate/quick resume mode are not affected), the download speed is capped at about 30-40MBit for some reason. It does not matter if the game has any online activity or not.
Closing that game by highlighting it on the dashboard or quick menu, pressing the menu/burger button on the controller and selecting "close game" will immediately recover your DL speeds.
It's a bit annoying as you cannot play a game while waiting for a download to finish on day one where you probably download a lot of games.

@Alock1 @Coxy this just worked for me.

Yeah mate that's what I've been experiencing all day. Which I thought wasn't going to be the case on this console.

So not really played anything so far just let it download games.

Even network transfer slowed right down.

They’ve not got a clue. Been on the phone twice, keep getting told it’s going to be here by 10pm today, but that the despatch is delayed. Have heard others have recieved a seperate email explaining it’s delayed by 1-2 days and it’ll be delivered by Thursday.

I’m annoyed that it’s possible I might not get one for a little while

My mate ordered from Amazon, got told it's not arriving til Thursday. They have him a £10 voucher for the inconvenience.

Like others have said, it was known that the Series X would be more of a continuity thing - the UI, the controller, lack of exclusive games until at least well into 2021. And that isn't a criticism - being able to use old controllers is great. The strategy there is mostly relying on game pass and the improvements to the back catalogue.

Here's a poll about it on ResetEra.

PS5 might be more up your alley with the focus on distinct generations with UI changes, controller overhaul and exclusive games during launch window.

Still nothing from Amazon

Hope you all get it ASAP. Really shambolic on Amazon's end.

How early did you all secure the order?
