Its terrible to be honest. Theres vaguely good games in there but they've been out years and cost nothing.

Just started Pentiment, have to admit it has taken a hour or two before I really got the feel of it but now the first mystery has started I'm really enjoying it!

I've just started playing Fallout 4. It wasn't a game that I brought back in the day, because post apocalyptic just never appealed to me. I'm about 20 hours in and I'm even more hyped for Starfield than ever. I just love the way that Bethesda doesn't hold your hand but creates a world where you can just go and do what you want to do. I can see this being my main time sink between now and Starfield.

Especially since Fallout 4 is considered one of Bethesda's weaker efforts and was rushed by most accounts. It's still better than the majority of Action-RPG's that have come out since 2015.

I think it might be time for me to return to punderin' the Seven Seas.

I hadn't played for at least 18months before doing it the other day...my god is there a ton of new content! Including a PvP mode where you can choose to fight, which should make the xbots moaning about a pirate game full of pirates at least a little happier

This is true. I dislike Fallout 4, though I wasn't the biggest fan of 3 either to be honest, but they are better in their particular genre than most.

The issue I'd have with Starfield will be how they handle the combat and overall gameplay. I have hope upon hope we don't get another Cyberpunk where all the elements are just meh set inside a decent enough universe. Though for their time I don't remember having that much of an issue with the combat in the 3D fallout games in how they feel, other than the basic nature of it. Just PLEASE get the space combat right!

I'm hoping the stealth's good. I loved going stealth in Oblivion and Skyrim.

It's my first entry in the Fallout franchise, but at the end of the day it's a Bethesda Softworks game. I should have trusted Tod 8 years ago and played it already.

Through lack of owt else to play on the Xbox I’ve been playing fallout 4 for the last couple of weeks.

I gave upon it pretty quickly on release and while I’ve done more this time, I still feel the same. Can’t be bothered seeing where it goes.

It plays ok and has some good points but it’s just so dull to look at and explore unlike Skyrim / Oblivion.

In between fallout 4 sessions I’ve also been playing Hardspace: Shipbreaker. It’s on Gamepass.

Actually quite an interesting game for a work simulator and is pretty therapeutic once you get cracking.

Their stealth is exactly the same in every game, almost identical maths behind it too in terms of detection. There'll likely be no difference in Starfield.

Though it would be nice if they went back to the Oblivion (even better, Morrowind) way of doing the stats, but of course they won't...cause console.

Same. Like 3 it's ok in terms of gameplay, but unlike 3 I found the world and characters much more dull and boring. Definitely a rushed game on a bodged engine.

I must admit the way they handled stats in Morrowind and Oblivion were superior to Skyrim. I also liked the way you had to go to sleep to level up. In Skyrim I'd hold on to my level up until I was in danger of dying in combat as it gave you all your hit points back.

Definitely. I also struggle with things like big mosquitoes and scorpions. Not a phobia or owt, they are just crap looking enemies.

Saying that, some of the locations are good and atmospheric and once you’re in the groove of the game it’s ok, just can’t see me bothering completing it. Was just a warmup for Starfield anyway.

So the new Sea of Thieves free content is Monkey Island.

But they've pretty much recreated the first game in SoT, although it's set after 3 cannon-wise. It's absolutely outstanding the attention to detail!

And it's on separate servers for those who have been put off the main game by the PvP. Who knows, might even get you into it and you discover easily the best exclusive game on the pass.

Not touching anything Rare built, they've been ruined by Microsoft and no hope of a return to form since they're still 1st party

Got nowt better to do other than try that out later on!

Reckon you’re about right about it being one of the best Gamepass exclusives. Certainly one of the best I’ve played in my short time with MS’s machine.

After this the new season should be dropping soon.

I've only messed around in the Island a little bit so far, but it's incredibly well done and very faithful to the series. Plenty of puzzles too.

Is it just the island they’ve recreated or actually some of the OG puzzles?

I say I’ll have a go later but Jesus, I’m struggling to tear myself off Hardspace again. Finding this thing very addictive.

It's basically like a full game within the game. Puzzles, the original characters, everything. It's set after the ending of Monkey Island 3, but it's basically the first game (you are following in the footsteps). It's absolute quality, I can't stress how impressive it is to those who have played MI games.

Shipbreaker? Yeah I have that in my Steam library on my to do list. I take it it's decent.

Sounds good. Grew up on the MI games, part of our culture dude!

Yeah shipbreaker’s dead good. I like some of the work simulator games but this is summat a bit different. Relaxing and as you get further in it gets pretty challenging while still staying chill which is a rare thing. Decent visually and good controls, a good game pass game … IMO obviously.

Yep!

It's only about an 2hrs if you look for everything, but there's another couple of parts coming.

I will get around to it. I know it sounds odd, despite having a couple of GP subs I did buy this on Steam in the sales. I just hate the MS store and what it can do to your system that much

My boy might finally boot the X back up for the first time in ages to play it though, it's right up his alley.

Dunno if anyone has played it but As dusk falls is dead good (so far). Choice & QTE driven narrative type game. Downloaded it off Gamepass earlier and about an hour in, riveting sh*t.

Just finished As dusk falls. Incredible story. Seriously brilliant. Gameplay is fairly minimal but you have to respond quickly when necessary which makes some of the choices tricky to make. One or two choices I found morally very difficult even for a fictional game.

If you have Gamepass, 6 or 7 hours to spare and like narrative driven interactive media then I’m not sure I’ve played many better. The acting and script is top notch for a video game and it’s visually beautiful.

So far my favourite XBox experience. Gonna start it again and make different choices, see how different the outcome is.

I really enjoyed the Monkey Island stuff, which is nice as the PotC stuff was naff.

Looking forward to the rest of the island opening up in the next two parts.

As an aside: about 6 hours into Pentiment. What an enjoyable yarn!

I think they did a really good job with potc for what it was, but I'm not really a fan of the films so it didn't do much for me on that front.

Did you spot the circus tents from atop the lookout point? I tried to sword lunge over there

But yeah it was incredibly well done, all the little in jokes will be lost on people who haven't played MI, but the characters are as strong as ever. I think it's one part per month release, and I'm OK with that actually.

I just hope for the next season of the game itself they sort these bloody servers out. Droopy balls (giggity) is not something you need as a pirate, especially in the middle of a fleet battle :(

Yeah I saw the circus tent, tried going up the beach behind the mansion and other ways to get there but they've pretty tightly closed it off!

I agree, I like a lot of the regular installment stories and seeing this given a bit of space to breath is good. Recently some of the story stuff has gotten a bit piecemeal and dull, so this is a nice little shake up. I didn't realise the last story thing they did was a prelude to this until the LeChuck reveal, but that was a bit of a weak one as well, I thought.

I've scaled back my SoT playing time recently so I can focus on some single player games, but I will keep returning because it is just a brilliant game.

Yeah it’s a cool game but regarding the outcome it’s basically the exact same every time with the main kid being alone in the cabin and found by the daughter, however aspects of the game itself do play out quite different depending on choices which is cool.

Yes mate, although the first part (chapters 1,2 and 3) it’s possible to get more than one ending. Did it twice and got two very different outcomes. One good and one rubbish.

Very enjoyable.
