A little disappointing after myself (and others, seemingly) assumed that this would be a game larger in scope than the Outer Worlds due to Obsidian being armed with Uncle Phil's Xbucks.

That being said, if the gameplay and storytelling depth are there I'm sure I'll still love it.

I'm looking forward to it but expecting a good but not great experience overall.

Sounds like they themselves decided to keep it relatively similar to what they have achieved before. It was already in (pre?) production when the acquisitoon happened I think. Maybe they have bigger ideas for a new IP when TOW2 is out the way. Or perhaps they'll stay B sized - not everything needs to be huge.

Obsidian are a bit like Insomniac in that they can churn out decent games at speed. Not quite to Insomniacs level but I think part of that is the choice of game. Avowed, Grounded, Pentiment and even TOW before it were all new IPs. R&C has a base to build from and Spiderman as a licensed game and with a Manhattan base can have a shorter dev cycle than something new from the ground up.

Interestingly it's InExile who are seemingly benefiting from the bigger budgets available from MS. Clockwork Revolution looks a big step up from a Wasteland game. Can't wait to see more of that but it's probably 2.5-3 years out.

Wasteland 3 is really underrated. Something about the post-apocalyptic setting and tactical turn-based combat hit my sweet spot.

I agree. I've got a lot of confidence in their ability to make a Bioshock Infinite RPG. Just hope they can get the fps element down.

I thought Wasteland 3 was great so I'm pretty disappointed they've gone into what I assume is going to be an action RPG instead, given MS already have about 10 of 'em in the works.

How many of those 10 will actually get released and be any good tho? Like 1? It's Microsoft afterall innit.

HealvsBabyface is complaining that the female hero in the Fable trailer is ugly. Anyone who's seen HVBF has to be flawed at the brass neck of the guy.

There is a lot of that in the gaming scene and numerous people have done this, same thing with Aloy. It's a very toxic place and is only getting worse.

But don't these morons get that Fable traditionally has a decent character creator anyway? And that the whole look of the game is supposed to be like that?

I thought Outer Worlds was pretty painfully average. When they first revealed Avowed I thought it looked promising, but the gameplay in that recent trailer looks a little lacklustre (which was the biggest issue in Outer Worlds too!). The fantasy theme does appeal to me much more though so I hope they nail it.

Yeah I heard the They fattened up Alloy rubbish as well. Don't remember Character Creation in Fable games. You have a choice between Male and Female in 2 and 3 but can't remember being able to alter how the character looks.

It's been a while, maybe I'm remembering wrong. But I thought you could change a lot of things during the game, including weight and all that in at least one of them.

Yeah, you can make your character fitter, or fatter, evil looking, or angelic but you didn't get to set the looks.

What the feck are they doing? I'm starting to worry GP is becoming a service where they're aiming to balance their big blockbuster games among small titles few would play anyway. I liked the mid-tier games much more :(

F.I.S.T. is a pretty unusual looking metroidvania that I've read great things about. It's sitting on my wish list in my mad quest to play through every metroidvania with half decent reviews. Definitely one to check out for fans of the genre.

I actually like the look of NFS Unbound as well.

Is that a drive-by post or do you mean they did this when the service first came out?

A little bit mocking as a joke mate, but with my full serious face on it does suck that you guys are now seeing this. It means that the service has gone full Netflix.

To clarify Gamepass was only ever going to appeal to people who didn't play a lot of games and could discover gems they could love from generations they missed. Most of the games on there would have been played by others elsewhere long ago and on any of the other services/played back in the day. Now those people have caught the bug, they are getting underwhelmed by the lack of actual new stuff that can't live up. And in no way do I mean any of that in a derogatory way, on the contrary, the best things about stuff like Gold/GP and all that is people falling more in love with games.

It's both good and sad to see. It's good to see people finding things they've missed, but it's also not so great watching people realise that these services really don't have a strong gameplan for future content that isn't well beneath what's been before.

Starfield, as much as I want it to be great, is Bethesda. So we deep down all know how that goes. Yet it's costing how much? Beyond that, before that, there's been very little of note. How many "classics" can be put on the service? How many indie games that haven't already been heavily discounted on Steam or free on Epic can they find to make people think it's still a great deal? And I'm not even going to get into the pittance those guys actually get from MS.

Honestly, it's just sad. I don't know what the answer is for the future, I just know that this isn't sustainable and worse that it won't mean a change in tact, it will mean only higher subscriptions and more mid-content. Because as we've seen with the likes of how Sky are still a thing, the latest Netflix boost and all the rest of the "services" we all know deep down we aren't getting bang for the buck for, we will still pay.

What games would you expect to arrive though?

Game Pass has always had these kind of games and some of them are gems that most wouldn’t try otherwise.

I’ll give Unbound a go. Heard good things. Heat was fun with mates.

In short, interesting mid tier single player games. Two I'm waiting for are Nier: Replicant and AI Somnium Files 2 as both have been out for a while and had their previous games on the service. Alternatively I'd like DMC5 or any of the Resident Evil games. Old games but fun ones, ya know.I 'll concede that Amnesia the bunker was a good recent addition along these lines.

Also nothing personal but I don't think gamepass needs a driving game as it's flagship one for the month. It has so many of them already. Eg both forzas, a couple dirt's, burnout, grid, f1, wreckfest, hot wheels racing, probably a few other nfs games, etc.

You're probably right but re: bold there's still a fair few games I'd like to see still come to the service, many that have been out for a while, and even some I'd like to see return because I didn't get round to them the first time. I listed a couple in my response to Veeva but will also add Dead Space, Elden Ring, The Witcher 3, Tales of Arise, The Diofield Chronicle, Evil West, Judgment – some of these are more wishful thinking than others I admit.

What I'm thinking is that maybe that the initial success of GP has priced them out of acquiring the rights to titles by certain publishers. Like for example we're not seeing many Squenix games go up on there anymore and the ones that have came off quite quickly like all the FF games. We've not had any Capcom titles in ages despite them being generally solid titles. This sort of service screams for all the old Resi games but alas.

Things weren't always this way as DMC5 was on there for a bit, as was Nier Automata (both since removed). We are however getting a lot of EA and Ubisoft titles, companies MS clearly has a good relationship with, as well as a crazy ton of indie games where it seems like MS is paying a lump sum up front and it looks like the devs are taking it so they can get their stuff out in the open.

It's been several months of the odd new game, filler content and lots of random indie stuff. Just a bit poor really but maybe it says more about my taste (i.e. not enough Japanese games  )

You can get 3 years for £120 (half if you gameshare), less than the price of 2 new games. Stop being daft and do the 3 year sign up trick and don't think about it again until 2026.

It's still good value but time is finite so if the games aren't solid then what's the point? I've been leaning more towards buying them when they go on sale and sticking them in my backlog as I can at least be sure it's something I want to play.

Would still never buy a game for £70 though. That's Sonybro madness :nervous:

Yeah, that's because MS, EA and Ubisoft are the biggest ones to benefit...also at least two of them are the worst gaming companies with reputations, and MS has it's own one and up there with the worst companies of all time to deal with.

I'm not saying they are wrong about the future, but both EA and Ubi are leading the way and have been for a long time in how to strip games and sell the bare minimum for full price then the rest for extra profits. When they control the subscription space, are we sure we can trust them?

And even worse, when they control all the developers. Which they already do way too much...but I've done that discussion on here about what true indie games means and how it's all but destroyed now.

What's the value like for full price? And how many people are paying full price?

You push this line like it's a good thing. But of course, as usual, you are on their side thinking about the sign ups and where people go once this "trick" goes away. Never mind the future of gaming, never mind the people actually paying. But that's the goal right? At some point it will be a discussion about who has more subscriptions and who includes more parts of games, rather than who is selling what.
