Because your primary motive is to prove that you know more than people. Really as an ex dev you should be pushing all the stuff they are doing and the ambition on show here. Maybe it isn't full global illumination and other games have it but what game that has it would be half as taxing as it would be here?

As for the comment around bullshotting and sim, people here are downplaying the simulation happening far more than they are overestimating it.

This is the sort of insight you could be giving us if you weren't so keen on playing the cyncial old man who knows better than everyone else.

Maybe you're bitter because you couldn't make it as a developer and had to change industry though. I understand. It's similar to @b82REZ wetting his boxers over having privvy insider knowledge because he is living through his mate at Sony.

I personally don't think this type of item persistence contributes to simulation in any meaningful way. If it's at the detriment of performance to this extent (as John Linneman seems to suggest), there's an argument to be made that it should not be in there. I appreciate that it contributes to making the world feel less static and more persistent, but I don't consider it essential to the experience.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is 30 fps isn't it? You can still have an awesome game, even if it's not 60 fps.

30fps in a first person game is far more noticeable, also Tears doesn't really require you to aim a reticle. These are always the first things I struggle with when I go back to a game with only 30.

Better than pretending to work for MS.

You lot say I work for MS not the other way round.

Maybe one day though. I almost interviewed for a role with Sony last year. Waiting on the green side to come through. Brighter future innit.

You know when @Alock1 is rattled, he tries to make it personal.

Meh, it's only because I've pushed his buttons on the CPU thing. It amuses me when he does this

Over the years I've done plenty of explanations on things, sometimes people care but mostly they only want to hear buzzwords. Which is his alley, so of course he gets mad when I simply tell people to take it all with a huge pinch of salt. That's not what people in his line of work want.

Nah, Sonys showcase was largely shite and there’s loads of games that don’t interest me. Just expected a bit more from it - fighting looks fairly bland.
I agree. Jetpacking in to the air with each planet’s unique gravity then dropping landmines on people before finishing them with a lever action rocket launcher does seem bland.

Again, there's that projection

It's not my fault your field means you don't have to know shit about what you are talking about, you just have to push it. You are only getting pissy here because I'm mocked the "CPU 'LA!" aspect people like you are running with now. It hits the bone, I'm sorry for that, but I've always been anti-buzzword to cover and always will. Again, it's not my fault you rely on that side. At least I'm honest.

Nah I am just pointing out what I say to you every time we end up going back and forth. Way too much focus on patronising people and making it clear you know more.

CPU isn't something Todd Howard was talking about in his presentation and we've all jumped on. It's clear the game is limited by that as you've admitted. I only mentioned it in relation to a post saying 1080p 60 should have been offered and youve since agreed resolution may not be the magic answer.

Does it mean 60fps wouldn't be possible with a different engine and dev? Probably not. And im still hopeful they can get there some day. But then, nobody else is doing close to what this game looks to do so we won't know.

The title change could have been done by Sol for all you know. It wasn't but yeah

I wouldn't be surprised if Starfield ends up getting the highest metascore this year.

It could have been sure but we all know you stay up every night devising new and ingenious ways to make it look like Xbox isn't winning the console war :)

Xbox looks like it has a promising future if these games fulfil expectations. That clockwork game looks interesting. I wasn't really all that excited about Starfield, but what they showed made it look like it has the potential to be the best next-gen game by a long way.

Fable looks like it could be great. Avowed - sounds like the budget has been reduced (thought it was supposed to be AAA, but seems budget is reduced to AA). I quite liked Outer worlds, so I will probably play it - it might look a lot better before release, though.

Did Alock make this game or something. Defending it like it’s his child.

If we were to talk about this properly, I'd first ask people what they thought would happen with 1000 sandwiches. Then, say 2000, then 3000.

Capping the framerate to allow for a vast amount of objects like this is standard, but what happens when the game doesn't reach that cap? Clearly at numerous points in that video the game doesn't even reach 30.

So where is the cut off? Because there has to be one. That then becomes more about game design than the whole "look at this!", it's a balance.

Nah I am just pointing out what I say to you every time we end up going back and forth. Way too much focus on patronising people and making it clear you know more.

You have started this "back and forth" with the exact same nonsense you think would ever wind me up. "condescending" "as a former dev" "couldn't cut it" the usual shite attempting to be personal.

You just don't like that I know a lot about this stuff and you don't. So when you buzzword it and I go against that, you always throw your toys out of the pram.

And you aren't right, because they could do a 1080x60fps game mode, that twitter doesn't go against that if you actually tried just a little bit to understand. More proof you don't know a thing about which you speak.

So relax, breathe, I'm on the side of wanting this game to be great as I always am. I'm just never going to stop pointing out the marketting/hype bullshit. Again, I'm sorry that that's your whole deal and it rubs you up the wrong way, but you know you could simply choose to cut the bullshit out every now and then. Just a thought.

Hey, I do positive thread titles too

Thought Avowed would look a little better than it did just by virtue of being an UE5 game. It'll no doubt look better at release but don't think the art style does it any favours.

Looks like a good game though. Can see Outer Worlds influence all over it.

This looks bloody amazing and I'll be buying a Series X just for this. Probably the only game I''ll ever play on Xbox, but can't resist.

I don't defend my children nearly this much.

Unfortunately I know as little about development as Redlambs.

Edit: sorry @Redlambs he hates it when I don't tag him

@Ainu @Redlambs I couldnt give a shit about the sandwiches specifically.

It's what the sandwiches represent god dammit.

That's because you are too stubborn and closed off to people who could help you learn. Since you like to discuss this stuff so much!

My sandwich fort will absolutely piss all over yours.

Before I said anything about your failed career as a developer you'd spent the last day making jibes at me selling shite for a job, dealing only with buzzwords etc.

You got 'personal' first fella but let's not pretend either of us care what some stranger on the internet says

What it always boils down to is your mood swings. We have a little jest and back and forth one day, then the next you go all hormonal and make a bit of a twat of yourself.

It's all good though, much like Veeva and his perma-butthurt style, I still love you guys!

Now are we organising a caf sandwich fort contest or what?

Look, you can't have it both ways, you can't expect to have 60 FPS and also an NPC on the other side of the galaxy doing a dump in a toilet in real time. Get over it.

As long as they are not prawn. I don't want Keano coming after me.

Im probably gonna turn my sandwich slider down so i can reach that elusive 60 fps

Finally someone who gets it. This is what the sarnies represented.

Starfield looks like a great excuse to flog your consoles on ebay and get a PC.

Doesn’t matter if Zelda is. It’s not acceptable in this day and age. It’s like watching a film on VCR. I’m actually playing Zelda at 30 fps (botw) right now but I’m not going to deny that it makes it feel old (which tbf it actuals is).

Absolutely. If you don't choose consoles for ease of use, big tv preference etc. then high fps and mods are obviously the way to go.

MS commitment to PC and their studios releasing day 1 on gamepass pc is actually a compelling reason to move over generally.

Are you saying the game being at 30fps is fine because you can hoard sandwiches?

Heavily considering selling one of my PS5/SX now and it'll almost certainly be the SX. Really shouldn't have bought both in hindsight. Looking at the 3080 10gb as probably the most affordable and I've already a decent 1440p monitor I use with my laptop.

Yeah if you're going PC then it would be daft to keep the SX over PS5. Might aswel get best of both worlds.

Actually, it will be really interesting to see what they do with the PC version in regards to the settings provided.

Absolutely no chance they'll get away with capping the fps, so I wonder if they attempt to soft cap certain settings. They'll have to be very careful on that front as the modders will rip it apart within hours if there's any shenanigans going on and we'll find out more about the console versions.
