Wout Weghorst

Is that the standard you think is good enough? Holland doesn't have many good strikers. Besiktas? Really?

he scored 2 goals in 20 in the league last season, he was even dropped for fecking Burnley in the last few games.

He was quite good from general play I thought when I watched him, Burnley were dung, hard for anyone to stand out.

I think he’s a good option as a back up striker for six months. Can hold the ball up for the likes of Rashford. Might not even play that many games.

Yeah it can happen but hardly likely.
Not necessarily, you just find someone who fits the profile that you need. Some players more suited to being impact subs rather than starters. Some more suited at big sides and some more suited at small clubs.

They were purchased outright though none of them were loaned in the last six months of their deal, even Giroud wouldn't accept that no decent player would.
Sorry, you are moaning that we aren’t purchasing him outright immeadiately?

He came off the bench vs Argentina and had the impact you'd want from any backup striker. For 6 months I can live with this.

Well, he's better than nothing. Antony has some use for cutting inside now.

But should we sign just because of signing? No way. I rather go with Martial and playing 4-6-0 some games, City showed it works without a striker. Every option is better than your favourite Weghorst that you seem to be crazy in.
It's a 5 month loan, what exactly is the downside to signing him compared to not having a striker at all?

Lots of decent players would. It’s a chance to show you belong at a higher level.

Change the angle you’re looking at and it’s very different to what you’re suggesting

We could also play with 10 men if we pick up an injury.

£2 - £3 million shared between Besiktas and Burnley, letting Besiktas keep the option to buy, should be enough, and would tick the cheap loan deal box.

Sure some people would moan if we signed Haaland or Mbappe. We can’t sign anyone permanently so we’re after a loan to cover for Martial when he eventually gets injured. Weghorst is a decent player, good touch and finish. Good with his head, which Martial has fluffed a few times recently. Makes sense to close this season out with someone reliable, when we’ll hopefully have new owners and can do the proper business in the summer.

Who? Man Utd has never spent £100m on any single player.
Alright so you're going to go down the technicality route of pounds vs euros I guess. 100m on Antony and Pogba, 85m on Sancho, 87m on Maguire, 85m on Lukaku... We just spent like 220m in the last window. You can be sure that if we have the option to make a big signing in the summer, that we will do it. United has always been among the record spenders, both in individual fees, and overall net spend, let's not pretend otherwise here.

Makes sense insofar as the strikers we were mostly linked to in the summer seemed to be very physicality-heavy. I would strongly think that's a profile of striker ETH wants in the squad to act as a target man. So he doesn't have to resort to throwing Harry Maguire up front when we're chasing a goal, for example.

Obviously Weghorst isn't really good enough for Manchester United. But that's why he'd be a patchjob loan signing for a few months and not an actual purchase. People need to adjust their expectations to fit the type of signing we're clearly looking to make.

I am fine with this. It is clear our owners are not spending big so we have to look for alternatives.
Weghorst is still is playing for a decent club and just featured in WC. He can be a good back up option and can defenitely get us goals.

6’6” tall.

A very powerful target man who is a good focal point and at hold up play. Similar to Giroud.
Hmm, do you know more than the Burnley fans who watched him play?

From their forum: "I remember last season saying he was a good player playing in a bad system. He was never a target man, but because he’s over 6ft 2 Dyche insisted on playing him like that!"

His pressing might be why we are going for Weghorst ahead of Depay. I don't know if Thruam or any of the others are not as good at pressing.

I'm just saying maybe his pressing differentiates him from the others.

We don't even press as consistently as that would suggest. We do it in phases and Memphis can definitely do that.

Burnley fans are notoriously stupid. This proves nothing!

As long as the club gets sold and we get rid of these completely useless owners I’m fine with this. Imagine owning a club like this and handicapping it so badly. What utter gimps.

It's like signing Auba like brwned said, sometimes it's better just to stay away.
There’s literally not a single similarity between them except “plays up front”.

Weghorst has very impressive physicality (something we need), presses relentlessly and only a month ago ripped apart a defence including our best player in a World Cup quarter final. He’s got a lot of positives

Read a few comments in this thread that exhumes spoilt mentality. We’re looking for a back up striker, and he fits the bill.

We can go for a starter striker in Summer, a calibre of player that is almost impossible on getting in January.
