Would you be satisfied if we only won the league?

I'd definitely be happy with just the league at this stage!

Cups are cups are luck are cups. I'd rather win the league than all of the cups combined, but don't expect everyone to agree.

Say what?

Will there? Only if your expectations are that we clean up in every competition. I had that feeling last season but not this

Mine are to compete in everything and with a bit of fortune and good play we win one...anything else is a bonus.

I think so. The season turned on Nani's red card.

...still haven't won anything yet, and I know people keep going on about its over and all that, but we look shattered. I still say it's possible we could massively feck up....

I'd be satisfied with crawling over the line tbh, win it with 1point lead or on goal difference but fecking do it.
This team is fully capable of bottling it as they showed last year. I'm really nervous about the City game because if we lose and in the form that we're in, it'll be an unbearable end to the season.

We're lucky to be 15 points clear because we're not playing well at all. We looked like we might grind out a win today until Ba scored, then I felt it was all over. If we were only top by 3 points, still with City, Arsenal and Chelsea to play in the league considering the way we are playing, I'd be shitting it. Since we can lose 4 games and still be top of the league, it's not really a strain, but we really need to be playing better. It would be nice to see the season out like Champions, and I hope we win every game from now until May.

Such arrogance. Of course we will be if we win the league "only".

When the question was posed it wasn't arrogant. We were clear in the league and looking decent in the two cups. Realistically then it looked like the league was a formality and the question was would you be satisfied to be put out of both cups.

I don't even find myself too disappointed (or surprised) about the result today because the League is all I've wanted this season and anything else would just have been a bonus and nothing else.

And as I see it, Fergie might claim that he desperatey wanted to win the Cup but I think deep down even he wanted the PL more. Our 4 most important players started a game in the league where we're 15 points clear just 2 days before a QF away to Chelsea. I think Fergie is desperate to make sure we win the league this time around even if it comes at the cost of a Cup.

No matter how the league finishes I'll still be thinking "What if?" through the summer.

We're on course for an amazing achievement but not in the manner we'd all like. A bit more momentum in our play would be nice. So the players really need to shake off this lethargy.

And lose 5-6 of the remaining 8 games?

I'm actually more annoyed going out today than I was to Madrid. I really thought we could win this, playing a mediocre City side at Wembley would've been great too. So no, I'm not satisfied.

I now hope that our cup performances serve as an eye opener that the team needs strengthening. I've been of the opinion that we've been good enough; we're not.

I'm not that annoyed at going out of the cup, losing to benitez however..

Exactly. Sure the league is the main thing and I'm delighted that we look on course for it but I am pissed off at the shitty defeat today and the ref feck up against real. I'm not satisfied with the two defeats at all.

Yeah, I wanted something to look forward to for the rest of season and currently the only two moments are the game against City next week and the moment we lift the trophy (Swansea at home before the last game of season). Neither of them will have the excitement of a big cup tie obviously which is really annoying at the beginning of April. I almost wish we were 2-3 points ahead instead of 15.

well...I'm not saying its likely..however lose to city, Chelsea and the Arse...well that is three of them. City spanked newcastle the other day and looked very good, so any sniff and their tails will be up and our players nerves will be spiked and we are hardly playing scintillating confident football at the moment.

I'm just saying...anything is possible in football..

Not satisfied. Content for sure in the knowledge we've take the trophy back from City (and deserved it completely too). But we've seen the foundations of a potentially very good team this season in flashes and I think we maybe have the right to expect a better challenge across three or four fronts next year.

Well in theory it is but it'd take the worst run in our PL history to do it. We could only beat Swansea and Villa at home and win one of the easier away games like West Ham, Stoke or West Brom and have the league sealed. Not winning 3 out of 8 games would be a disaster of epic proportions.

I find it amazing how some of those United players have not won an FA cup. Rooney, Rio, Vidic, Evra, and former greats like VDS. You had such a top class team betwene 2006 and 2009 it seems unthinkable.

Not really, Reading would be able to close out the league from our position...

Basically, this season is a 7 out of 10, happy with a title, but not great... breaking Mourinho's record would make it 8/10... 9/10 if we get the unlikely 100pts.

2008 really should have been a Treble year, Sir Alex played it safe and got the other 2.

....as I said...very unlikely. I suppose I'm trying to keep the excitment of the season going for myself! That...and a certain self protection from the quite devastating, awful feelings and memories of the final couple of minutes of l last season. I was dancing on the balcony during that last five minutes..I've never experienced such a high and low in such a short time.....!!

2007 we lost in extra time, 2008 quarterfinal against Portsmouth was a joke of a game, 2009 Fergie rested almost every player in the semifinal against Everton as we played Pompey in the league three days later. Could all have been our years.

Anyone feel today felt a bit like the 2007 final? Both drab games seperated by one goal from a big black player with a deft footed touch. Not saying Ba is anywhere near Drogbas level, but hes a similar style.

Don't think today's game was that drab like that final, tbh.

No I will not be happy with having by far the best season out of anyone in Great Britain this season. I will not be satisfied at all, I demand much more than that. :wenger:

If somebody said to me before the season that we'd only win the league, I'd be delighted. The cups are a lottery, winning the league shows up you're true quality as a squad and we have been the best.

City or Chelsea can have their FA cup, I couldn't give a rats arse as long as we take back the league.

This forum is laughable at times.

"Would you be satisfied if we only won the league?"

The answer to that that should be a resounding yes. The fact we are 15 points clear is nigh on a miracle. Let's finish the season off well starting with at least a draw against the Berties on Monday.

Get some perspective, we've been mediocre all season!

I'd take a draw against that mediocre City side at OT next week, so a Wembley SF would have been anything but a foregone conclusion. We haven't even been average lately.

I'll be celebrating like mad when we win the league. We're all disappointed today to be out of the FA cup but when Vidic is lifting that league trophy I won't give a feck about any other competition

I dont see how anyone could be disappointed, as I said earlier in this thread, thats not being spoilt due to Fergie, thats being disrespectful to the team and manager. Any other team would give anything to win the league.

First time for a while we finish a season on a high if we win the league. 2011 we lost CL final, same in 2009, 2008 was great, 2007 we lost the FA Cup final as the last game.

On on earth did he do that? We didn't lose against Pompey because of squad rotation or whatever. We had a very very strong team out that day.

I'm disappointed, of course, but in a way I think it's justice done. This just isn't a double-winning side calibre, let a long a treble-winning one. I don't know when we'll next have a good chance at the cup. We had one this year, with a mixture of decent (home) draws and really missed a chance in the first Chelsea match. Our early(ish) exit from the CL also should have improved our chances. Who knows what will happen next year.

I just we finish the season well, rather than look a like a team feeling sorry for itself. It'll be sad if we end it with a strong of Reading and Sunderland like performances.

was gutted when we unjustly went out to Madrid, but today was just a poor display, nothing game, deservedly went out, and can't have any moans really.

The bizarre thing is I'm thinking, oh well, and have moved on quite well.

The way Fergie was talking about "our next game" being against City probably speaks volumes about his priorities!!

He's got some interesting decisions for the summer.
On the one hand we've had a monumentally succesful league season to date, 25wins from 30 is incredible. But the wingers have massively under performed, so does he stick or change game plan?

Not necessarily. The league should be done in the next two matches. If it's not, then we might have some more excitement ahead of us but only because the form has gone to shit. Could be five of the most boring matches to end the campaign.
