Would you be satisfied if we only won the league?

Today is more disappointing because we really should have killed Chelsea off in the first game, and then we wouldn't even have had this game to deal with. Going to Stamford Bridge was always going to be tough, and I felt that we played ok today up until they scored and then counter attacked against us.

Throwing away the 2-0 lead at Old Trafford and having to go to Chelsea for a replay was giving ourselves a huge task to go through. I wasn't particularly confident of winning the game today, and the result wasn't surprising.

Madrid was a far more crushing defeat, by a long, long way and I'll still be delighted if we go on to win the league in relative style.

Considering City's riches and the fact they finally won a title, this would be a very sweet win and I would be satisfied.

Also remember that Chelsea won the CL last year and invested even more cash.

We also went toe-to-toe with Madrid and proved that we are not far off Europe's elite.

And besides you're going to have the best season of any English club. Even if we win the FA cup and Europa league it doesn't equal one league title.

You'll be the first English side to win the Champions League, Europa League/UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup.

And you'll have won 4 FA Cup's in 5 years.

Sure this isn't vintage Chelsea, but looking back on it in 5 years time, it won't seem like a barren period ala Arsenal

We are a trophy winning team, no matter who we have. We may not have been great in the EPL last season and we may not be this season, but I would sooner have that and win trophies than finish 3rd/4th and have not won anything for the past 8 seasons.

It is a horrible choice in City v Chelsea.

I guess it has to be Chelsea though.

The final will be a horrible walkover though won't it. Millwall or Wigan!?

Could all those who said 'no' or a similar response to the OP have their tags changed to 'unsatisfied with the season'?

The league is the main prize and always will be. The fact that we're likely to win it by a large margin is amazing in my opinion. Cup competitions are always a bit of a lottery and while you still have to be very good to win them it still has that element of luck about it sometimes. The league is the ultimate judge of a team. The table rarely lies and you get to play your stuff over the course of the year, home and away to prove you're the best. I'm fecking delighted with what we've done.

If offered the chance of winning the league title only, of course I'd take it.

Still, there's something sad about seeing so many games left in the season that are essentially meaningless. The remaining games, after we dispense with City, will give Fergie a chance to tinker with lineups in preparation for next season, but we want drama, right?

Still, no complaints from me whatsoever if the only trophy we lift is the English prem trophy. feck UEFA and their corrupt referees. As for the FA Cup, it would be a nice trophy to have as well, but it's now a very poor cousin to the real trophy.

I'm very happy with the season, the CL was disappointing but largely due to terrible refereeing against one of the favourites who we largely outplayed, I don't care about the league cup. The FA Cup is the only one that annoys me really, we were just really shit against Chelsea for 135 out of 180 minutes.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Always delighted with a league title.

Unless you're Mancini, who reckons the table is false, and all that is really different between this year and last year is that City have scored 20 goals less.

Winning the title is always the priority for me. After the way we lost it last season, it was truly horrible. I'm absolutely delighted that we're set to win our 20th title and I will have a great big party when we do.

But I just can't help but feel a tad disappointed that we failed yet again in the FA Cup, it's been far too long since we won it. We were unlucky in Europe because of that cnut of a referee. But I do still feel we need to invest in the midfield if we're to dominate in Europe again.

I'd take drama free, winning it with 5/6 games to spare, title wins every fecking year thanks very much, if it was on offer.

The end of last season was enough drama to last me a lifetime.

Is there really any point playing the final, and the Millwall v Wigan semi?

Why dont' they just save everybody a whole lot of time and money and declare Chelsea v City to be the final? It's at Wembley anyway, ffs!

The thing is there is no reason to not be happy we win the league, you can of course at the same time be disappointed that we did not win the FA Cup and the CL.

They are 3 different and seperate competitions.

I take exception slightly to those who claim to be unsatisfied with just the league title you see. Theres a difference between being disappointed and unsatisfied. Any team anywhere is disappointed to go out of a competition, but being unsatisfied to me shows a lack of respect for the team and management, The latter of which is exceptional in Uniteds case.

At the time of this thread though there was a lot of bullishness about doing the double or treble, so maybe the league form masked problems that can arise in cup competitions, so expectation was high.
I agree though its a very long time for a club like United to have not won such a big trophy. I actually watched the last time United won it and remember Ronaldo taking his shirt off to show the commentators his abs.

Ah sorry I thought you were talking about the league.

Overall I'm satisfied with the season. The main objective was to win the title, especially because of who we lost it to and how we lost it. The memory of sitting on the floor in shock, with the remote shattered to pieces still sticks with me.

Even though we lost to Real in dubious circumstances, I'm pleased with what we did in Europe. I honestly didn't think we were good enough in Europe and we'd be horribly exposed against better teams. The fact that we went toe to toe with Madrid and were the better side over 2 legs has eliminated those concerns and given me optimism for next season.

The FA Cup though is a low point for me and is made worse by the fact that if we'd gotten to the final, we'd be playing either Millwall or Wigan. I know cup football is a lottery but the fact that City or Chelsea can end up with the same amount of trophies as us, despite being underwhelming domestically and in Europe, seems unfair. If Wigan or Millwall beat them in the final, I probably wouldn't care so much.

Yeah, I was more disappointed to go out of the FA Cup to be honest. It wasn't our fault the CL exit happened the way it did, but we were just so disappointing against Chelsea.

Absolutely delighted with our league position though, we just need to go for the jugular against every team we play and get that points record I reckon. That'd be a fantastic bonus.

2 wins and a draw seals it. We have Stoke away, West Ham away then Villa at home following City so we can win it then.

With the form Stoke are in, we really should be beating them. West Ham may be trickier given that they won their last game.

Can you imagine the ignominuous shame if we went on to beat City but still lost out on the prem trophy to them?

That would be the most epic and incredible collapse ever. If we beat City we'll need 4 points from the remaining 7 games...

As a supporter we really have to be delighted at winning the league. It's a great achievement. You can bet the players aren't satisifed though. I think it was Jaap Stam who had a chapter in his autobiography named something like "Only the league, again!".

Sums it up really.

Yeah, it's definitely possible that we'd just go on to lose all our remaining games.

Winning the league is the greatest honour and I can't wait for that moment when we get our trophy back.

There's absolutely no chance of us losing the title if we beat city.

True, but when Stam played we had no competition whatsoever in 99/00 and 00/01 so the league was mostly done around christmas time. That's also why we lost the league in 01/02 with Fergie resting almost all his first team against the likes of Bolton, West Ham and such to be ready for the title that only was the target back then, the CL.

We have had little or no competition this year either, it's been reminiscent of those 2 seasons as well as 96/97.

We have won at a canter. Which is great, usually we have umpteen heart attacks along the way.

To answer the op threads question.

It's a testament to how well United have done, and how fortunate we are to be supporting such a successful team this question or thought even arises.
