Wot, no transfers?

We won't be any better until we get rid of Jose (and replace him with someone more modern) and either get rid of Ed or hire someone in an equally senior position to manage the football side of things.

Kinda weird with about a month to go the only story that keeps popping up is William. Which really just doesn’t get the muppet juices going. A lot can happen in a month but normally the press have some sort of lead on a target.

Really hoping this Ronaldo move sparks others into action including our transfers.

I am not really impressed by Fred. But I also have to admit that I do not know who I would wish for or who is a realistic target. Kane is not possible, even a swap deal with Lukaku. Modric is too old. Kroos is not for sale.

Which player do you wish for?

I want someone for the wings and a left back. But who?

Fred didn't even make it as a starter for Brasil.

This feels like an Arsenal summer; untested midfielder, unknown young player and random squad filler signed so far.

We were miles off City last year and we aren't going to bridge that gap without bringing in serious quality. This summers huge for us and it's worrying that we're not doing much.

Look I'm as big a transfer muppet as any but some of you guys need to chill. The World Cup being is hardly conducive to a busy window, but now it's coming to a close things will pick up.

Two of our targets are still at the world cup (Alderweireld and Mandzukic) so it makes sense that we haven't got anyone new. We are also looking at Sandro.

That's 2 Juventus players, and Juventus are in finalising the Ronaldo deal, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what is holding things up.

None of these or all of these signings isn't enough to win the league. Average players with the exception of alderweireld

Maybe the owners have looked at the gap between us and City (and other top clubs in Europe) and concluded that the amount we'd have to spend to truly compete with them is not economically viable and that its a much more sustainable model to maintain us as a "top four" team with relatively minimal investment

And this is my worry.
If we don't spend big this Summer, then what you have written has come to pass.
If we do spend big, it means that the owners want us to compete with the best in the World and we are giving chase.

IMO, given that we don't appear to be doing much in the transfer market, I think Jose has been told to aim for top 4.

I’m by no means a Jose fan but there is now way he would except that. He’s come to win trophies, the biggest trophies available and I’d imagine if he was told listen just settle for top 4 he’d slap whoever said such a thing.

‘He’s not here to take part, he’s here to take over”

To compete with City club need first of all to appoint modern manager. Second need to be football core in the club to build the squad for years forward and to agree what is the philosophy need to be here.

If your plan were implemented, it would take at least 5 years before we come close to winning the title.
That'll be 10 years and no title for one of the biggest spending football clubs in the World. You think this is good business?

I hope you are right, but if the owners changed their plans and basically said to Jose, "Jose, we don't have £200M to spend. But we do have £100M to spend, so please make do. Re-sign some players and bring in some cheap youth players who might come good. £100M is still more than 99% of clubs will spend in the Summer, so we are giving you a lot of money to compete. And given that the expenditure is lower, we will accept a top 4 finish. Next Summer, we may have more money to spend, but we'll let you know closer to the time."

What can Jose say to this? How can he protest?

In any case, I hope that this is not the case and that we are lining up some targets which will allow us to give chase to MCFC.

Me neither. Didn't play a single minute, but Tite implied he was still injuried by that tackle by Casemiro.

Unless he's the biggest surprise we've seen since Ronaldo, won't be that different.

We need top players, there's no other way around it. And Mourinho to step up again.

Agree with you, but which top player is on the market? Weird transfer window imo.

We aren't even fecking linked with anyone at the moment. What is happening? Can I start panicking?

Lack of top accessible talent.

Worse, he was Brazil's LAST CHOICE midfielder. He didn't play a single second.

I think you are reading too much into this.

Alex Sandro didn’t even make the squad, Fabinho also didn’t make the squad. Firmino was used as back up striker to Jesus. We simply can’t just dismiss a player because he wasn’t a starter for his NT team.

Look closer to home, Martial and Sane also didn’t make the squad. Two of the very best young players in the PL.

Maybe you can argue that the players that were started are better than the ones I mentioned but there’s no way anyone can justify the lack of minutes Dybala got for Argentina, Higuain and Augero being left our for a crucial match. All of comes down to who the manager prefers and really has no baring on the ability of the player.

I’m not saying Fred will be a world beater, all I’m saying is that don’t read too much into his lack of minutes in the worldcup.

I’m trying to convince myself that the lack of news is a positive sign, and that the club is quietly going about its business in a professional and discreet manner. I’m definitely concerned, though. The World Cup was always going to be a major disruption in this summer’s transfer window, but the complete lack of credible leaks / links is becoming disconcerting.

Tbf, the options available for the gaping hole on our right-wing is pretty limited, i mean there is no standout players to target, maybe except for Bale, but even that is a risk.

LB i would like to see Alex Sandro. CB isn't that important to me, but Godin would be nice if he actually leaves Atletico, which i doubt. Koulibaly or Maguire could be interesting too.

A playmaking midfielder in the mould of Pjanic would be nice, but again, who would be a realistic target? And we are not getting anymore midfielders with Fred signed and Fellaini extending.

I would like a young and cheap talent for the right-wing, it could be a punt. Dunno who though, but surely our scouts can find one.

If the club doesn't feel that the right players of the required quality is available, then i won't blame them for only signing 2 players.

I see us signing a few numpties at the last minute while not getting rid of anyone...keep that hotel room Mourinho.

Mourinho is going to shock the world and win the title with kids. Using Chong to plug the RW gap. White text

Very low activity so far considering the fact we have to catch up a bit. I doubt Jose will suddenly promote the kids

Need 2 full backs and 1 more attacker ideally. 1 more center mid wouldn't hurt, though I doubt we bring in anyone with Fellaini staying.

But the key again is: it's down to Jose to maximize some of our current players.
