Wot, no transfers?

About a month to go right? Most World Cup teams are home - at least any we’d be interested in. We should see movement in the next week or so if anything were to happen.

Perhaps the glazers have looked at the lack of activity at city and thought if they ain't spending a lot then we don't need to. Obviously we do need at least a proper rw as a very bare minimum

If we do any business at all, I think we'll overpay for Willian and actually sign Bonnuci.
Of course we'll do business. Mourinho is always banging on about the need to catch up with City. The WC has just reduced transfer activity.

Reckon the depatures of Blind and Darmian would spark some life into our window also no way we're just sitting on our hands, stuff must be going on behind the scenes. Mourinho runs a right ship. The media dosen't have a clue whats going on.

So to sum things up, we'll probably look for a winger and a wing-back, possibly a centre back

Possible Wingers:
- Müller: somehow realistic
- Willian: Very realistic
- Mbappe/Neymar: Only if FFP punishes PSG
- Who else??

Possible wingbacks:
- Sandro: Realistic. Juve just spent big
- Who else?

Centre backs:
- Bonucci
- Alderweireld
- Lenglet

They are okay to be the 6th or 7th option in our midfield.

Pereira
“I told him that I felt ready to compete. He was happy to hear that and said I would get my chance."

Also, Mourinho awarded McTominay a trophy for ‘Manager’s Player of the Year’.

So, I guess they would get some minutes vs easy teams if we need to rest Matic, Pogba, Fred, Herrera and Fellaini.

Next year, we could sign a midfielder to replace or rotate with Matic.
I'd take a 33 year old Modric, absolutely in awe every time I watch him play. He can play top level football until he's 37 I reckon.

Why have a message board if we can't post opinions?

What makes you think mandzukic and sandro will be enough to swing a 20 point difference in the league?

Ah yes the classic. Post something ludicrous and without reason like calling Mandzukic and Sandro 'average' then justify it by saying it's just an opinion. Why have a message board if you can say anything you want without backing it up?

Now the WC is done for me, it's time to face up to the fact that our squad is no where near well stocked enough to challenge for the two competitions we really want to be winning this coming season.

No news of any major dealings is worrying, with squads as they are now, we will not finish above City or Liverpool next season. We have to correct the shortcomings of last year, and we haven't done that yet.

Or maybe Jose needs to sell before buying. Plenty of deadwood in the squad, ie Jones, Darmian, Blind, Mata should all leave this summer.

We need two players : a left back and a right winger.

The problem is that these 2 players have been on the brink of being sold for a while, now. We just can't seem to get them out of the door.
Shaw and Young will be staying, which certainly means no new LB. Why would we need 3 LB/LWBs?
The reports I have read in the media suggest that we are not in for any attackers (ie. no RW).
We already bought Fred to replace Carrick in CM. Fellaini re-signed.

What I am trying to say is that there is every reason to believe that nobody else is coming.
If the Glazers have decided that Top 4 is good enough for the upcoming season, then the squad as it stands right now, is adequate. We should be able to scrape 4th place.

I think so, too.
But given that Shaw and Young are staying, why would we buy a 3rd LB?

I really do believe Chong can make the grade. Therefore, I'd expect us to sign a senior winger, such as Willian. Chong would easily deputies for him.

LB has to be Sandro. There just are no other options to improve us. We could go with younger targets but I believe have young LB's (Shaw and Mitchell) and an aging LB (Young). Sandro fits the in between bracket perfectly.

Back up striker I'd love to take is Mandzukic. He'd cost next to nothing as well.

To top it all off though, I'd love to get Bale. I know we'd only get one of Bale or Willian but Bale is the dream, Willian is the realism.

Nonsense. Ed always goes for big transfers, and we've been rumoured to be in for 3 different positions - something is bound to happen.

You also have Mourinho who will be breathing him down his neck for at least a big transfer. We've only spent 66m gbp and possibly have some outs too.

Bonucci, Sandro, Willian all gettable - although the amount we'd have to fork out for Willian would be ridiculous all things considered.

This world cup has only reiterated that we should have paid up for Perisic last summer. He's relentless, really talented and completely suited to the EPL/Mourinho style.

As the cliché goes he's not a great goalscorer but rather a scorer of great goals, and important goals in big games at that. Lukaku just can't seem to do it on the big occasions so I'd love to have him as an option, particularly in the champions league.

The next and last signing will be a CB. Anything else is wishful thinking.

Its called negotiating. We have been selling our players for peanuts, good on Woody for trying to actually get some real cash.

I dont really get this doom and gloom narrative that has taken over this thread of us becoming the new Arsenal. We are a commercial force right now and feature on countless richest clubs lists every year. We got their by constantly making marquee signings and not accepting mediocrity. Its more likely the media dosen't have a clue about our transfer dealings than Mourinho morphing into Wenger. I'm certain before the window ends we'll at least have a CB and a LB. Besides its not like all the other top clubs in Europe have made numerous signings. Yes, there are countless rumours floating around but not many signings. Its a World Cup year, things will pick up. Folks need to chill a bit.

The only way I can see a LB is if Shaw leaves. And it doesn't look like Shaw is going anywhere.

Kinda weird with about a month to go the only story that keeps popping up is William. Which really just doesn’t get the muppet juices going. A lot can happen in a month but normally the press have some sort of lead on a target.
All it tells you is how many the usual transfer rumours are entirely rubbish and made up. At the minute the WC is getting clicks, so journos are focusing their attention on that.

Happens at every single World Cup pretty much. Not weird in the slightest.

I’d take just as much encouragement at seeing some of our deadwood leave. Too many players still hanging around who aren’t good enough.

Same goes every year. Darmian, Blind, Jones, Mata. We fall back on them being merely 'squad options' yet they let us down time and again when actually selected. Young has turned it around but the above must be moved on, Pep would have done so long ago.

Very strange for someone to think we are not going to buy more when we have made a big money signing every season. Ed Woodward even has it as part of his financial strategy to make a marquee signing every summer! We are trying to move heaven and earth to spend big on a player, I am certain of it. Of course that doesn't mean we will spend big on a player, but it won't be for not trying.

You also have to take into account that Ronaldo is finally moving, which means both Juventus and Madrid have to do some restructuring. However, the FA and other teams might have fecked us over by closing the transfer window early in a world cup year (very idiotic move from them).

Must admit I'm starting to get impatient for any news at all. I imagine we'll see a lot of activity in the next couple of weeks though.

Would have been nice if something was announced today to get rid of the English gloom :(

At this point, I wouldn't even mind seeing some absurd transfer news that makes no sense. It's as if the media have decided to ignore us completely!

I personally wouldn't mind signing Mertens, sure he's on hte wrong side of 30, but he gets the ball into the box, already knows how to play with Lukaku (and Fellaini) and I think he would be a quality short term (a couple of seasons) option until we can find a young hungry right winger. I also think we would get him at a reasonable price.

Why the premature conclusions that the club aren't aiming high because for the first window in nearly 5 years we haven't splurged generously?

We have already amassed a wealth of talent in our starting 11 that can't be easily upgraded in an inflated market. We also know Jose is picky with his targets and chooses to work with a specific profile of player to fill a role at each position. Not even convinced he sees the fullbacks as a problem area.

We do sign a lot of mediocrity as well over the years

Since the Kohler sponsor has been announced there is a poster on the red devils reddit that has some legitimacy. He/she predicted the Kohler sponsorhip, Dalot and Grant signings. He/she also said that we are planning at least one more transfer and more than one are in the works for this summer.

Note: This is different person from the Kohler/Griezmann ITK who has been banned due to Griezmann extending at Atletico.

Would love that, he's a goal threat too. We need goals.

I think any excuse not to spend suits the glazers. They would be happy to finish top 4 money wise.
Come on, look at the money we have spent post SAF, there is very little in the way of restraint in our spending.
