Wot, no transfers?

The "no transfer" situation is getting worrying.
Buying Fred alone, isn't going to push us towards MCFC and merely allows us to hold our position.
We need another 1-2 first team starters.f
I have to say that at this stage, for the firs time in many years, I am downbeat about our chances next season. It kind of feels like our club have given up on the idea of winning the league and are now focused on top 4.
I feel the same way. Haven't been felt this lack of optimism prior to a new season ever before.

We are very, very far off City. Fred + Dallot haven't done much of anything to close the gap.

The window closing in just over a month, too, is worrying.

Sandro will come after the whole Ronaldo saga ends, I suppose. And then there's nothing left.

I think we will be getting Sandro and I think we are in for Alderweireld but won't panic into another signing if Spurs play hard ball. I get the feeling we aren't getting a RW though. I think one signing for certain, maybe a second but no more then that.

We need a LB and RW, we are fine elsewhere, if it's tunnel vision for a CB above anything else then you have to worry.

100% this. We already have old, mediocre players in our squad that need to be shipped out. We shouldn’t be replacing them with more old, mediocre players.

On a side note every single Chelsea fan I know has said that Willian is frustratingly inconsistent. He’d be a terrible transfer at £60-£80 million.

this

It is looking pretty grim at the moment. Fred, Dalot and Lee Grant isn't filling me with confidence that we'll be any closer to City next season.

Here's hoping they're nowhere near the levels they reached last season.

Chelsea fans also had a lot to say about Matic. I'd say Mourinho will get more out of Willian than Conte did anyway.

Only consolation is other teams have pretty much done feck all it’s been a terrible window for all.

Heck Chelsea haven’t even managed to shift Conte out yet.

When does panic time start? For me it's in about 2 weeks if we are no further on. Going to be a bitter pill to swallow if on opening day our defence includes Jones, Smalling, Valencia and Young.

City will add Mahrez this week and that's pretty much them done anyways. Liverpool have added Fabinho and Keita so look stronger already. Only really Chelsea (who are a mess), Spurs and us that have been very quiet.

I've said it before and I will say it again. Since the Pogba/Lukaku/Sanchez transfers clubs know that we prepared to splash serious cash therefore we get quoted ridiculous prices.

We're not really after anyone (publicly at least) in that bracket of talent/fame. Sandro is the best player we've been linked with (bar the whole Bale gossip immediately after the CL) and Juve have been reported to be holding out for 60m euros for a year now.

Arsenal seem to have brought 10 players, none of whom anyone is really going to get excited about.

Which is true. But they are bulking up their squad which was needed for some time. However I still think 4th is the ceiling for them.

Personally I don't think we are seriously after anyone, and we might sign 1 more player (a CB). I'd like to be proven wrong though as we need to get players out and in.

it's a weird summer, could this be the first one in a long time that doesn't break the previous record for dolla bills spent?

Depends if Ronaldo moving triggers off a shit ton of world class talent changing clubs. Real will spend big, but I'm not sure who else really will be, certainly doesn't look like we will.

Their signings are not exciting but they are sensible.

Cech has been in decline for a while, they signed Leno.
Mertesacker retired and Koscielny is crooked, they signed that CB from Dortmund.
They had no cover or competition for Bellerin, they signed Lichtsteiner.
They had no quality defensive midfielder, they are buying Torreira (who looks brilliant tbh).

Wenger would have just ignored all their problems and signed an attacker or two. If I was an Arsenal fan I'd be very happy with their summer and United could do with taking a leaf out of their book in terms of signings players to fix problems instead of signing 'exciting' players because they happen to be available.

Couldnt agree more

True.
But remember, our competition is not Chelsea. We are competing for the title against MCFC. If MCFC don't buy any players (which they certainly will), they will probably still finish 10-20 pts ahead of us.
Last season, we threw in the towel, in December.
This season, I don't want us to give up, before the season starts.
We need a new LB and RW. L.Shaw is useless and A.Young needs a back up. I know Jose wants Young to play 50 games next season, but for a player of his age, this would be a minor miracle.

Not overly concerned just yet.

Fred should add some drive from Midfield and pace at moving the ball on the counter attack, we look solid in CM.

Dallot is the big unknown and *could* offer some backup competition to Young at LB. TFM decent backup to Tony V at right back. Still, think we need something to mix it up as an out and out right winger If we are getting to the end of July with only 2x incoming with possibly Daley Blind and Darmian leaving then I will be concerned.

Haven't you got that the wrong way round?

Leno is supposed to be error prone
Sokratis is good, not a world class CB, don't think he's a big improvement on what they have
Lichtsteiner could struggle in the PL, not the best of ages to move from Serie A to the PL
Torreira could be a great bit of business I must admit, but then again I'll wait before I pass any judgement on him, remember people going overboard about Xhaka.

Yeah they have made a few signings but are they really that much better? I don't think so

And the United should learn from them bit, well we have been linked with a LB, CB & RW in addition to the CM & RB we have already bought.Isnt that what's exactly missing from our squad?
Arsenal were able to buy 2/3 players no one actually wanted. We bought a young RB who was wanted by 8 clubs including Bayern, a CM who was a City target till Jan and are after the best CB in the PL and a top 5 LB in the world. So yeah, it's a bit harder to pull off than signing 3/4 average players.
On the other hand, would people be happy if we had bought Sokratis, Torriea and a old LB?

Don't think so. Dallot is a LB and TFM RB no ?
Dalot said he’s more comfortable at right back when he signed, and I think he’s been playing there for Porto when on

We've got three interesting players returning in Tuanzebe, TFM & Mitchell. All three could bolster our defence. I wouldn't mind at all if we are planning on giving them game time.

Are those 3 really going to help bridge the gap to City though?

Till now it's a disappointing transfer window for us.

You might have missed the boat there mate. Barca spent around £270m on two players in the past year or so. This makes our £165m on Pogba and Lukaku look small fry.

We have spent £70m so far and I surmise that we will spend £80-100m more. With a few outgoings in Darmian and Blind, we'll have £20-30m more to spend as well as a lighter wage bill. I'd be very surprised if we don't get 2 more signings in.

I think if we dont spend big where we need it this summer it is obvious as a club we have accepted we wont catch city any time soon and are happy to remain a top four club. I hope I'm wrong but if not it could be a grim few years ahead.
