Wot, no transfers?

Why the hell did United's official account troll us all last week with that Zlatan video? Are they really that out of touch with our current mood that they thought tweeting that was a good idea?

Yeah they are very out of touch. I remember when we were all hoping for the Vidal signing and the club posted a tweet about a big piece of news in the next few hours .... turned out to be a new sponsor for the training kit. The problem with being THIS out of touch is that if we start the season with no new additional players the match-going fans are going to cause problems. The board should be aware that their reputation is only maintained while those in the stadium are happy.

This seems like a big issue for people who aren't happy with how your window has gone. I wonder if it would impact how the mood is if we'd not been very active this summer?

Liverpool being as active as they have been only compounds the situation but the mood would be the same regardless.

Fact is it's been a hard window for everyone bar Liverpool but the inactivity from City and Chelsea is being overlooked because of our own issues

The lack of big deals in the market is leading me to think that the clubs are fed up with the stupid valuations of players and they are holding off. The agents are holding out for stupid prices and the market is in grid lock. The problem is compounded because it's such a short window but at some point soon the players and their agents are going to have to decide if that player really wants to move at such short notice or not at all. I think a lot of deals aren't going to happen.

I suspect that Hazard will stay at Chelsea. He's still 2 years on his contract and it's being reported RM have lost interest and are looking elsewhere. I also think that Leicester will not sell Maguire. They still haven't spent the Mahrez money. Willian to Utd is still a possibility but it's all a bit late and Chelsea will be looking to replace.

It's not just Utd who are having a sh1t window.

PS Would you swop Willian for Martial? Perhaps a few £m on top?

Spurs have stood still in the market for two consecutive summers now haven't they? United have had two fairly active windows under Mourinho and signed Sanchez in January. City don't really need to do a lot anyway.

Not arsed anymore. I'd honestly prefer to sign no one if the alternative is to sign mediocre players. We have an abundance of mediocrity in our squad. What we need are significant improvements. If we can't get any players who fit the criteria then we shouldn't spend for the sake of it. When Jose joined we had loads of rubbish to get rid of thanks to LVG buying players who weren't first choice. If we allow Jose to do the same then the cycle starts again when the next manager joins.

Willian plus 50m and I'd probably sell.

Agreed, although I'm sure there are quality additions that can still be made to our squad before the deadline closes.

Don't ask me who though.

I think the Sanchez signing showed we have no real problems. If a unique talent would be available we'd be all over it, but sadly it seems there's just not many truly great options.

We could do with some fullbacks for instance. But someone like Alex Sandro would cost 50+ million and he's hardly world class or a truly unique talent. He's 27 years old already and would possibly need half a season to settle in England, there's a lot of potential downsides to what could be a marginal improvement in quality.

However if David Alaba had decided he wanted to leave Bayern and come to us, I think we'd have forked out 70+ million without thinking twice.

So given that Telles and Tierney are avaialble for less than 50m, have age on their side and we could triple their wages without blinking, what's the hold up?

According to the media, Jose is sitting in a room somewhere in America, moaning to anyone who will listen.
Would love to know what Woodward is up to at this moment in time and what cunning plans are forming in his head to push us onwards and upwards.

It's the same problem as with Alex Sandro obviously minus the age factor, they're interesting players but how much would they improve the team in the coming six to nine months?

Then there's the problem that our squad is bloated already, who do we offload? And don't forget we already signed a talented young prospect in Dalot, and still have another one in Luke Shaw.

If we can sell Darmien and maybe find a loan for Shaw, either would be a great option to have and would immediately improve our wide play. I particularly rate Tierney highly and wouldn't mind him going straight into the team.

Even if Livers hadnt been as active, United still recruited enough to catch City ... or enough to make it far into the Champs league.
Liverpool appear serious about challenging on all fronts... United doesnt and that isnt good enough imo.

This is the biggest thing to me really. They look like they're preparing squads for a title challenge. Us, Arsenal and Chelsea are just hoping to get by. It's sad.

It does appear like the Glazers are happy with top 4, which is very worrying.
Woodward saying we dont have to win things to keep making money just reinforces the point.

My opinion is that our real issue lies within the board.

Reading through this board, you would think we finished 6th last year. We had a good squad last year that performed very well against the top 6. People really need to relax and focus on some of the positives coming into this season. Do we have enough to over-take Man-City, probably not this year, but many of our players had great World Cups, so hoping that the players we counted on last year can learn from that success and take another step forward.

The least most of us expected from this transfer window was diminishing the gap between us and City, and building a squad that looks like a serious UCL contender.
So far, the only thing we've seen is the widening of that gap.

Luke Shaw is still a 'talented young prospect'..... ok

That's my problem with it as well. We're not being ruthless with the deadwood and we're not being ambitious with our signings.

Look how long it's been since we won the league. We should be making whatever changes are necessary to bring the title back. Instead, we're doing very little. It's frustrating.

So he's not talented? Or is he not young?

You'd imagine his name is on one of those fabled lists and if Shaw has yet another poor season who knows.

Celtic is rumored to sell for £30m. Still worth a punt at that price. Would improve the LB position. Question is if he would want to come this season. Most likely next season.

I'd imagine if we said "you are our target this year. We're going to triple your wages and offer you a 4-year deal to play in the PL - this is a one-time offer", he'd accept. He might love Celtic, but he can take as many trips to Scotland as he wants with the money we'll pay him.

A month on and this thread is still 100% accurate.

The big boys have done nowhere near as much business as I thought they would, minus Juventus signing CR7.

I feel a massive snowball effect on the last few days of the window, anybody else?

Remember the clubs abroad are not in the same rush as we are.

In most instances i would agree, but think he will remain at Celtic and then announce that he is leaving after their last game this season.

Looks like we're going to have a big scramble for players in the final days!

Been waiting for this snowball effect of activity for so long, I'm beginning to wonder if its actually going to happen. I'm genuinely starting to think it's just going to be a fairly quiet window for everyone. The transfer market has been so crazy over the last few years, maybe this was bound to happen eventually?

Are the supporters of other teams melting down too (Arse/Chavs/Spurs/City)?

Arse have signed a load of ho hum players-Different expectations

Chavs have a new manager and signed one player.- Probably more excited as new manager with a good playing style and stole jorginho

Spurs haven't signed anyone

City have signed one player- Already the best side in the league

Was there any point creating this thread if you are gonna moan about people posting in it all the time?

Maybe the club has forgotten that the transfer window for English clubs closes earlier than usual :wenger:

Good point. Most people are looking at it only from our perspective, but there is a lack of transfers all around even if we take into account there is a larger window for other clubs (Liverpool being the only club with more activity didn't help though). Also, the people who thought we will be buying or replacing half of our squad were always bound to end disappointed, even if there wasn't WC and the market isn't so inflated because that rarely or never happens.
If we add just another significant player and under the condition, Fred turns out to be a massive upgrade on Herrera, that can still be a solid window.

PS Yes I would. Money, meaning 20-30 million + Willian is a good deal and as a fan of Martial, I thought I would never say that. But if he isn't interested in playing here anymore and relationship with Jose is broken he will have a shit season and we will be forced to sell him a year later for peanuts considering he will enter the last year of his contract. Basically, we would get those 20-30 million and that's it.

I think this is spot on the issues..

Another day, another day without any reported progression in any deal/deals.

Bring on August the 10th so we can watch some proper football again.

May only be 10 days til the window closes, lads, but on the positive side, that means we still have 375 days until the next summer window is done. That's LOADS of time.

I said in here nearly a month ago i couldn't see any new signings without sales. The rumoured targets are so uninspiring at this point i think i'd rather we waited until January, hopefully the club could actually do some scouting/planning in the meantime.

Remember the clubs abroad are not in the same rush as we are.

This is the fear I have. The likes of Real and Barcelona then have 3 weeks to buy players without the competition of Premier League clubs bidding.

The whole situation is a joke and why the Premier League clubs agreed to it was stupidity. It would only work if all of Europe had done the same thing.

English clubs are run by idiots.

This was such a stupid decision. And it will come back to bite most of them.

The players we have are good enough for a top 4 challenge which should be a realistic aim this season.

Jose needs to get out more from a lot of our current players.

Manchester United should be aiming to win the league and the Champions League at the start of each season. We don't have the players.
