Wot, no transfers?

I think if there was a poll on here at the start of the summer, apart from goalkeeper, CB would have been last in terms of positions we need to strengthen.

I made a thread at some point and I think LB and RW where the positions the majority said were our obvious weaknesses.

Astonishing that we might ignore both of them.

This is going to be a terrible season. We're going to have some really ugly results without strengthing LB, RW and possibly even another CM.

I think Our right side is the Biggest issue we look completely unbalanced . Hopefully the last player is Willian. At least that will bring more balance

If we get Maguire, i'd say 3-5-2 is on the cards as the standard formation this year. only issue with that is that shaw and Fosu-Mensah are likely starting and leaving our full back position open to massive attacks from the oppo.

I didn't do it, why would you ask me?

Edit: Another similar thread from the United Forum got dropped here too.

I'm all for it, tbh.
I'm sorry I forgot it was your brother using your account to post the below:

There's already a thread for crap like this, can't we keep it all in one place?

The fact that you even peered through your curtains to scowl at this apparent third thread is notable.

Anyway I don't to get too bogged down in this, I will just give this thread a wide berth (as I was doing hence creating my own).

I can only laugh at those expectations. This isn't Football Manager. JM has already received a lot of funds, you can't invest indefinitely without showing some progress.

Valencia is out captain and one of the best wingback in the league. He just needs a proper winger to support, think he would match quite well with Willian to be honest. Dalot is being touted as the best RB in Europe in his age group and should be back before end of September.

We're sorted in CM, even before the signing of Fred (especially with the progress Pereira is showing). We were simply unlucky with the injury to Matic.

As I've said before, a good LB signing doesn't come around that often. Maybe we've tried for one or two and failed. The question is if there is anyone out there good enough AND available at a not too ridiculous price. Who would that be?

For CB, yeah we can improve and there are probably players available. I don't rate Smalling, Jones or Rojo. Bailly and Lindelöf can be class together. I'd prefer to get rid of the dead wood and sign either a starting CB (probably Maguire) or a backup to the former couple.

Telles
Bertrand
Rose
Max
Sandro
Tierney

And that's off the top of my head. Each buyable for 50m or less. Each better than what we have and only Sandro requires high wages. Again, what is happening to our club?

Maybe all those players have an attitude like Martial rather than Jones. Or maybe they aren't interested in moving to the North of England.

Jose can't build his squad just based on reputations and raw talent. The mentality and desire has to be there.

I'm starting to doubt that we'll make the required investments. No way can we compete with City with the gaps we have.

11 days to the deadline, it's going to have to be a mad spell ahead.

They're going to have to drop a fair amount, and we're going to have to cut out the mistakes of last year.
It's looking a bit like the classic definition of madness at the moment though, expecting to do better with no real difference.

Fred has a lot riding on him!

We have players like Jones ..smalling.....Damian ....Shaw ..Rojo ..who are not being great for us !! So why not we clear out some of them and do the reinforcements a bit early in the market ??

I guess this team is not that bad everyone make and with a different manager we could do better I think

Agree that a better CB, LB and RE 3 more signings what we need !!

I don’t want to read too much into the tabloid stuff surrounding things like Koulibaly for 90 mil or SMS for over a hundred, but I certainly do wonder if one additional issue is just that we are struggling calibrating to market that has escalated out of control. Neymar, Mbappé, Coutinho, Pogba, van Dyke, Dembele, Allison, Ronaldo - these fees, and in some cases the fees coupled with wages are staggering. Every Premier League club already has a target on their back because of the league/TV revenue. Only god knows what it must be like negotiating for players these days. There certainly has to be a point where being simply financially responsible is a factor.

I still think it’s only a matter of time before a major club makes some unwise or unlucky investments in the transfer market that puts the entire club at risk.

Every time transfers ramp up, we think it MUST be near maximising fees. And then they go up again. Same with TV contracts.

The huge risk has to be that you time a huge transfer wrong, so that it comes just before the absolute peak of the mountain, and it all starts reducing down.
Wenger reckoned players will start signing shorter contracts and move around free, but I can't see that happening too soon, as the riches for signing huge deals are way too great.

tbh, not that much to be inspired by there.
Under the right coach they are all players capable of playing at the highest level. In the case of Bertrand, Tierny, Telles etc that is. Weren't Man City interested in Bertrand? Liverpool just got to the CL final with Robertson in the team who came from Hull City no? You don't need 11 world class players to build a team which can play attractive football and compete for the big honours. Having the right tactical set up and providing a platform where some players can excel is also important.

Wenger was probably wrong in some ways. Guaranteed money on longer contracts will probably still be preferred by quite a few, if not most, players. Length of the contract will be one of their focus points. What Wenger was probably right about in some respect is that as players near the end of their contracts, it’s becoming much more lucrative to just run it down. They and their agents could stand to make substantially more through a free transfer, despite the risk involved.

There will be a transfer or two. Woody will succumb to Jose. Whoever comes in will.be vastly overpriced, clubs will want top dollar as they know we are desperate. This is why our summer activity has been so poor.

We better hurry and sign someone so our manager can then quickly decide they’re shite, alienate them and then sell them again anyway.

Christ it’s so toxic on here at the minute, and I can only see it getting worse.

Is there a bunker we could go into? A safe space?

I know a place, I will give you directions. Once you get within a mile of the entrance though you have to be blindfolded upon approach. Please ignore the heavy metal grinding sound, that is just the air conditioning system that needs repairing by the bunker entrance. Disclaimer: It may or may not be the entrance to a giant meat grinder.

"I would like two more players. I don't think I'm going to have two," he said. "I think it's possible I'm going to have one.

"I gave my club a list of five names a few months ago. I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players."

Sounds like it will just be one signing.

Not difficult really just stay off the redcafe.

I'm sure alot of people on here like to moan about people moaning more than the moaners enjoy moaning.

If we sell Martial and only get a CB, then we will be in huge trouble.

It will also be very, very boring.

A lot of the "toxicity" comes from people who can't accept that others are unhappy with Man Utd currently.

Nah, that is just a narrative people are trying to proliferate to detract from their moaning. "Stop moaning about us moaning so we can continue to moan whilst also moaning that your moaning about our moaning.

Circular argument ;)

He gave a list of 5? We have bought 3 even if You exclude the 3rd choice Keeper that's 2 and we will probably sign 1 more so 3 out of 5 . Take into account we signed Sanchez in January that's 4 New players and Andreas back that's 5 that's close enough to Half a team . We have to start asking the Question How many players a year do we have to sign? you would think 5 would be enough wouldn't you ?but yet we still have such huge gaps in the team . The next two weeks are going to be interesting.

Do people not accept that? I think you'd have to have your head in the sand and be the ultimate of top red to be completely happy with everything going on at the moment. I don't think there's a single person on here currently who is 100% happy with the club, and that's kind of normal really, it's what fandom is all about in a way.

Of course, there is definitely many on here that moan way too much, but also many who just hone in on this atm to come across as been more intelligent and superior fans, whilst looking for a pat on the back from like minded posters.

Look how many Players and Klopp signed. There were and still are key gaps in the squad. Thre is absolutely no disputing that. It is the only thing the caf agrees upon on from all sides.

Well fair enough, but one is not necessarily better than the other, both are equally as annoying, moaning is moaning afterall, and jeez the superiority complex some of you moaning at the Jose moaners have is nauseating

True but it is a natural inclination that when there is a lot of one thing then people will feel the need to address it in an attempt to improve things or in this case stop the threads from becoming an echo chamber.

No one wants one-liner jibes or outright vile comments about someone to be the majority of posts or even a small percentage of posts for that matter it annoying. Just no need for it.

Precisely the problem. Klopp has seemingly addressed the weak positions in his team, a team that despite its flaws made the CL final. So far we have signed a back up RB thus replacing darmian (assuming he leaves) a player who had practically no involvement last season. A third choice keeper who likely will never play and of course Fred who could prove to be a great addition in midfield. That said none of our most pressing issues have been resolved. As it stands now we are in the midst of a poor pre season and will be going into the season with all the problems we had last season. It’s comcerning.

People are annoyed, and this is one of the few places people can come to vent their fury, fans are fickle, and just want the best, the 'vile one liners' will turn into the 'giddy kippers' if we start to get it right, but right now it's hard for many to see past what we have been seeing, and the negative persona of Jose just now.

All that needs to happen is a glimmer of hope that we can become the team we all want, and the mood will lift, until then it's best to relax to the 'one-liners', and throw away comments, like I say the been overly positive angle has almost become as moaning like as the outright moaners.

Unless this is all mind games from Jose then the board needs to fecking deliver. I doubt chong will be a starting RW and I just feel we are so lop-sided and predictable that it will be the determining factor in terms of progress. Unless Dalot can be played there ahead of AV or be and attacking RWB we will struggle again in terms of goals and chances created from that side.

I wonder if a lot of the pre-season frustration was down to Jose wanting to experiment with his players in the forward position, perhaps getting Luku on the Right or Martial if the others were available.
