Cant help but feel you will still get a marquee signing before the window closes.

Most likely Bale if not I'm really not sure who.

Cant believe in your bid to catch city you would only sign a player from the Ukranian league and somebody who's played a grand total of 6 games for Porto first team.

It depends on whether or not the board are happy to stay in top 4 this season or if they want to catch MCFC.
From a business perspective only, I'd rather leave things as they are and compete for 4th place. To catch MCFC, IMO, we'd need to spend £150M+ and even then, there are no guarantees of winning the league.

From a sporting perspective, I say, spend £300M and set a new points record for winning the league.

Agreed, I just don't think even from the Boards perspective they have got Jose in and spent the money they have over the last few years to be contempt with top 4. I still think you will make a real effort for Bale and if not there will be another big signing of some sorts.

Considering how much the board have given Jose and previous managers to spend in the last five years and got sweet feck all in return for it, I wouldn't really be surprised if they said feck off now. Maybe they're just assuming Jose will do his usual third season cock-up and be gone anyway.

Alderweireld will happen imo, we're the only ones in for him and no way he stays at Spurs after being frozen out last season.

It does seem like a LB has been put on the back burner because of a marque signing (Bale), still feel it's likely he'll stay where he is and we'll only have the 3 transfers this summer

Alderwereld and Willian would be a good window and both likely. Obviously a LB and RB would be nice too but I just don't think we are credibly linked with any

I can't help but laugh at all these people panicking

We've already spent about 82 million euros on players we needed and there's about 3-4 weeks left. We have NO idea what is going on yet some people here make it seem as if we have just given up in the transfermarket.

100% with the world cup this year, it was always going to be a couple of signings before it and then nothing until the world cup finishes. The world cup hasn't finished yet and I would suspect by this time next week, we will have had numerous links/rumours to players and then the following week our first signing post world cup.

People need to calm down and roll with it, it's nothing like Moyes summer transfer window. I'm personally quite relaxed about it.

The next few weeks are everything to our season. Let’s hope we are planning well.

Sounds like a brilliant business strategy :wenger:

Think he got you with that one

Heh, you know what I mean. As in they don't want to provide him with the funds because of his third season history and given past transfer windows, would rather remain frugal until this season pans out, see if he actually does well, or ... does a Chelsea.

I haven’t paid very much attention to transfers lately, but from what I’ve gathered we’re looking to sing one center back (either Maguire or Alderweireld), probably not another left back (we would’ve signed Sandro already), maybe one winger (Perisic?), but probably not.

So that’s it? Fred, Dalot and one CB? Not what I was hoping for to be honest. I can’t see us beating City to the title with these three transfers.

De Gea
Valencia - CB - Bailly - Shaw
Matic
Fred - Pogba
Lingard - Lukaku - Sanchez

Seems like we’re relying heavily on most of Rashford, Lingard, Martial, Shaw, Fred, Sanchez and Pogba to develop intensely and have an excellent season to compete for the major titles. Or am I wrong?

Rumor has it that Liverpool are back in for Alison Becker which means that City and Liverpool will both be ahead of us next season. I think we put all our eggs in two baskets and are hoping either Bale or Willian signs which may not happen with Sarri in charge and with Barcelona in for William. Bale will remain since CR7 has left. Really poor planning on Mourinho and Ed’s part.

Same merry-go-round every season, how can it be bad planning? The world cup isnt finished yet and some of the players we are after are involved in the competition. Also players not involved are on holiday and waiting to return to their club and new manager. Players we are after might not be interested in joining us, the clubs they play for may be buying in new players and its giving them extra motivation to stay.

Who are the alternatives to Bale and Willian? Ones that may be willing to join.

If the players aren’t willing to join, we have a real big problem. Either way, the club hasn’t progressed much. Jose had this 12 min speech of how city were better than us and how they have recruited so many people last season. And it seems like he’s gonna recycle the same speech for the upcoming season. Everyone knew the World Cup was taking place, it was Jose and Ed’s duty to get the deals done in advance. Jose did indicate that he provided the list 6 weeks before the season ended.

Well it's a given that we're looking to the likes of Pogba, Sanchez, Martial to have an excellent season in order to compete, they're our big signings in recent seasons so that's nothing unusual.

Was there any suggestion accompanying those reports about that list how many players he wanted? I don't think we are struggling with pulling power. I think we're struggling with a budget that doesn't reflect our actual needs.

I have the feeling something goes wrong this summer. Yes, we have three weeks but are they enough to secure 2/3 strong players?

The previous summers we had a couple of core transfers, we built a spine. Now we needed the final push to complete the puzzle, to shorten the gap to City, so what is happening?

Yep, Dalot and Fred may come out very good, but they not Matic/Lukaku/Pogba/Alexis type of transfers. They might need a season or two to adjust to the league. We need players that they will go to our first 11 and improve us now.

Such options are Alex Sandro, Alderweireld/Bonucci, Willian/Bale even Perisic (though not natural RW).

I love talent, but if we desperately need more personality.

I am afraid that we will just end up with one extra defender and that is it.

We are short of quality however our biggest failing is that we've failed to integrate a cohesive footballing identity.
We could spent £300m within the next three weeks and I'll still not be confident of winning the league. Also, we could go into the season as we are and put up a far better challenge than we did last season.
Personally, I'm not even sure Bale is the player we need. I'd rather sign the right player than sign another big name. Would be a shame if Bale signs and we find out he's another player that needs to drift around the place .

I'm getting slightly concerned about Westham buying Anderson and Yarmalenko. Have a feeling we will be signing Arnautovic from them as soon as Anderson's permit has cleared. Jose has been to watch him and there was interest on our part according to sky sources (for whatever that's worth)

Lack of movement for a RW is probably due to there not being anyone good and available out there.

I don't know what is holding us up with regards to a LB though.

Mahrez was available and could've hijacked him from MCFC.
At MCFC, he'd have competition for the RW position. At MUFC, he'd be a guaranteed starter. This would be how we would've persuaded him to join.

At LB, we are moving slow (for some reason). I think Jose has been told that funds will not be available to replace LB.

Last season I was optimistic, but now, not so.

Jose has managed some of the best players in the World. Do people on this forum genuinely believe that Jose rates A.Young, L.Shaw and P.Jones, highly?
If Jose is given the funds, he would replace these players in a heartbeat.

Last season, we saw how desperate Jose was for Perisic, but our board refused to pay the asking price. This WC, we saw just what Perisic brings (quite apart from him having a good season with Inter).

I'm getting very frustrated and I can see MCFC winning the title by a large margin, this coming season.

EDIT: I just had a thought. It is conceivable that we start the first game of the season, with exactly the same set of players, we finished last season with. That's worrying me, big time.

We have already signed a starter in midfield, and a promising RB. Now that the WC is all but over, transfers will start happening.

Remind me how many players Chelsea, Spurs, City have signed?

Why does it matter what the other clubs do? We should look at ourselves, and improve where we can.

I do agree that the business will most likely kickstart when the WC ends.

Its a reference to how transfers are being done this season. Obviously every club has been a bit slow due to the world cup.

We just need to play free flowing football with some Ambition Realistically, Our squad is good enough.

Good enough for what? Current squad has a chance of top 4 next season and also has a chance of missing out. No chance of the title and no chance we go beyond quarter finals in Europe.

Attacking tactics which could get absolute best out of our bunch will go a long way to set a new perception of the squad.Just a few Tweaks and we should be good enough to challenge for top honours in the game. In the end it comes down to the efficiency in both boxes and ours can be significantly enhanced with better attacking in the final third which seems to be the Blunt edge in our team with the tactics we saw last season. How we use the ball, and our lack of risk taking innovation keeps us Falling short of major honours all these years.

Do people talking about how the world cup is affecting signings realise that its been only 4 countries left in it for the past week?

Bingo! At least some people get it.

It also throws a spanner in the works that the plonks at the FA decided to change the transfer window date in a world cup year. I wouldn't be surprised if a few clubs get screwed over because of it or have to pay more to push things through.

You might not be the brightest of the bunch. The world Cup is a minimum of 2 weeks for every player involved, and going by the fact that no player wants to deal with transfer related stuff with agents and managers during the time it delays transfers by that amount or more. Then you have to add that we are definitely interested in Alderweireld and Mandzukic who were part of those 4 countries.

Chelsea have just signed Joringho after a few weeks of work who wasn't even at the world cup. Now add 2-3 weeks to that for players at the world cup. Any world cup player signings announced in the last week were not done after they left the competition, they were already ready to be finalised and done so once the player finished with the world cup.

I'm actually starting to panic. Fred is our only real transfer (who is expected to improve the starting 11) and we needed 4 of that caliber to actually compete. I'm fine with the RB situation as it's priority isn't too needed but a RW, LB, and a backup striker has to be a must...
