Wot, no transfers? It's all happening now!

That would be an incredible window. Not sure if we have the budget for that though

Think the Sancho deal is seperate money to the others,so reckon it is a matter of selling Smalling, Lingard, and one other to fund a move for Upamecano

Would be ecstatic with a window of Upamecano, Donny & Sancho, keep telling myself no chance of Thiago then will make him signing for the scousers easier to accept
Why no chance of Thiago, if the latter wants to move to the premier league, and we are ready to pay the fee

Reverse psychology and determined not to get invested in it 2013 style all over again

What about selling players? Except Smalling link with Roma there are no signs that we are even trying to sell someone. Lingard, Jones, Rojo...is it possible that they will all stay another season? Is it that hard to find a buyer for them?

We usually find offers for our deadwood late into the window. Evans, Schneiderlin, Smalling`s loan, Darmian etc all left in the last few weeks of the window so I`d be a bit more patient there.

So we sign one player and get linked with Thiago and the whole fan base thinks we will get him?

This transfer makes no sense at all. We need to strengthen our CB, LB, RW and all we seem to be talking is Thiago who has his heart set on Liverpool?

Why cant we just stick to our targets ?

I don't think that we are in Thiago. Maybe we were interested but ve chose de Beek. No chance that we will sign 2 midfielders while we must spend on other (more urgent) positions. But press must earn some money so they will link us with many players

Lingard maybe not, provided he wants to go to the club, if any, which have put an offer in.

Rojo would go back to Sth America no bother but I don't think he wants to take the paycut.

Who'd take Jones though? He's never fit. If he'd managed a few half-decent performances last season I think he'd have been off-loaded. However, he didn't play very well when he did come in and got injured again before the post-lock down Europa games.

We need to concentrate our pressure on more realistic signings. Sancho, CB and the like rather than wasting time thinking of Thiago. I get it, Thiago is a wonderful player and I would love to have him in my team but for the purpose of this window, he is not what we need.

What would people think to a window of just VDB & Sancho, still reckon we could get a cheap LB or ST too

We won't be buying Sancho.
We will if we can make enough player sales and looks like we are making a good start with Smalling

I agree with both of you and think we will definitely sign Sancho either in 1 month or 11 months.

@Sassy Colin thanks for keeping this thread alive. The muppets will feast on their signing for a little while, but one week from today, if we aren't seen to be close to signing #2, this thread will return to its peak!

The signings would be fine in quality but not enough in quantity.

We needed 4 players going into the window, a RW, CAM, CDM and CB. Arguably a LB too. Getting 2 simply wouldn't be enough, at least from my perspective.

I wonder too. They should have been sold some time ago

Personally think we are going to sign a DM next summer if McTominay doesn't prove to be an able enough deputy for Matic over next season.

In regards to a CB I can see us either having faith that Badiashile will develop and bring him in now or we will take a risk relying on the fitness of Axel & Eric and go and get Upamecano next summer.

Think there is an interest in Reguilon at LB but we may be put off by this rumoured clause in his contract

Sancho isnt happening though before the window I would've been happy with just Sancho. With no Sancho, we need to sort out left back (Reguillon easy), get more depth in attack (only 5 players for 3 positions, one is 18 and one is gone in January) and then try for Upamecano if possible, but bare minimum the attack depth and a starting quality left back.

Next summer Sancho, DM and CB.

Cooper seems to think we will go for either a CB/LB this window

I much prefer padding the squad with high quality squad players than spunking it all on Sancho. What we lack is game changers off the bench and high quality understudies for when first team players are injured.

If we can find new homes for the poor quality players on the bench, it won't even cost a fortune.

Do you guys happy to give naming rights of our stadium to a big sponsor for 100M+ a year and invest that on our squad and renovating the stadium?

I am used to underwhelming transfer windows, but at least there are normally plenty of unrealistic rumours to get the juices flowing, this window is just so dull

No because Old Trafford is such an institutional name. However, no one would called it by its full sponsored name.

Of course, if someone out there is dumb enough to give us that money while the stadium will still be referred to as Old Trafford by the non-plastic fans.

Sancho, Upemecano and Thiago is business as usual. To further complicate things you wouldn’t know what narrative Eds pr team is stirring up now either. We are always linked with the best players on the market every summer but apart from Pogba and ADM (and we were the only realistic destination for either at the time) we seem to struggle to get those kinds of deals done.

Old Trafford needs more than a splash of makeup these days though. Still one of the best stadiums and if we could just transform the South Stand we could have a 100,000 seater stadium which in and of itself would be mental. But if they did that they could call it the "Kevin Keegan's left Nut ell emm ayy oh" and I would still drag the missus along on a cold December evening

They’re no ones first choice. They’ll move at the end of the window when clubs miss out on their other targets and fancy taking punt

I do hope they do something to the path from Dressing rooms to Pitch as it looks pretty rubbish and old style if we compare that to other modern stadiums

I guess Ed thinks his job is done and it's time for a long holiday to relax from all that hard work talking to a player who wanted to come and a club happy to sell...

Never doubted Woodward and our board. Our manager has been supported by our board consistently, only for our managers to fail.

DVDB is a smart signing that improve the depth of our team, which I said should be a focus for us this transfer window. Would have preferred Grelish, but I believe his price would have been ridiculous. Now we need a right wide attacker to cover for Greenwood. Dembele, Coman, Traore, etc. A player that can take on defenders. Still feel like Sancho is our main target, but I don’t see how we can keep squad unity with his purchase unless one of MMM is ok with warming the bench.

If you were another club would you buy any of them and make them your highest paid player?

You have a point. But for smaller fee, yes. Lingard and Jones are good enough for some smaller clubs in league. Pereira and Rojo are not good for us but they would be good for lots of clubs in Spain or France. They are good players.
Of course that players must accept slightly lower wage. As i said once, if you say to player; you will not play if you stay then he might decide to go for lower wage. And we fans little bit exaggerate that issue about wages. Our deadwood has high wages but it is not something which other clubs can't afford.

@crossy1686 made a good point above. Maybe at the end of the window when panic buy starts we will sell them.

Think Sancho deal will be done in next two weeks or so, before our season starts anyway. Then maybe there's a slim chance of signing a CB by 5th October, if we sell Smalling, Jones and Rojo.

If we dont buy more players, next season is going to be interesting. If Rashford find his form, Martial picks up from where he left off, and Greenwood keep improving I think we could still have good season even without any more additions. Our key players also must avoid injuries because that would absolutely cripple us.
