How does that explain us spending the most money outside of mancity and barcelona though?
 
I'm disappointed United still haven't strengthened that front 3.

I'm a little worried going into this season the way it is. It's almost certain Lingard/Periera would get about 60 games between them again - Rashford, Martial and Greenwood cannot play every game and the back up options are players who would probably struggle to start for Aston Villa or Burnley.

Midfield gets a pass. Matic, Fred, McTominay, van de Beek, Pogba, Fernandes. For 3 positions.. Absolutely brilliant quality.

Defence is weak in the sense that I think our strongest back 4 is probably only about the 6th best in the league. If that. But we have the numbers. Maguire, Rojo, Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Jones (apparently), Smalling (for now). All decent players when fit and playing regularly.

GK we have De Gea and Dean Henderson. No problems there for this season.

But man, how can we leave that front 3 as it is?

Might we see an alternative setup when one from the front-3 is out, in which we shoehorn VVD, Matic, Pogba and Bruno in the same formation?
 
Some people going on about the fact we've spent more money than most other clubs... but lots of clubs have brought in more players than us. surely that is the point... we haven't strengthened even close to enough

Two young players that lockdown troublesome positions for the next decade.

We also need to be more realistic when it comes to Our valuation of surplus to requirements players.

Rojo £10 million
Lingard £15 million
Pereira £15 million
Smalling £15 million
Mata £10 million

Just get rid of them. Selling them on the cheap generates £75 Million by my valuation, for players that I don’t want to see play even one game this season.

I might be a bit off with my valuations, but even £60 million for that lot is a hell of a chunk towards the new recruits.
 
People need to come to terms with the fact that the clubs ambitions are now limited to top four football. Sure, we will splash out on a Pogba or even Sancho but only because it's good business. The squad changes we all want to see wont happen.

Yeah that will unfortunately always be the case under this ownership and nothing Ole can do about that

Yeah I think £60m probably closer to the mark but, still, these guys won’t be easy to shift while they’re under juicy contracts. I’m not necessarily advocating this but if we let them go free it would be better than keeping them here and paying big dollar every week for sweet fa (Mata being the possible exception).
 
I’d write this season off as a defining one if there are no additional transfers. Shocking transfer management but can’t say I’m surprised.

That would be brilliant business and that's not selling them on cheap it's the absolute max we can expect for these players we are struggling to shift Smalling for even €15 m no body is paying anything around your valuation for others.

Woodward briefing the UK press that they got an agreement with Sancho A MONTH after the "BVB deadline" and either never placing an official bid or forcing Sancho to make a transfer request that never happens will go down as one of the stupidest things this club has ever done. This would even be beyond the fellaini signing. How can you brief the press a month after an alleged deadline about a deal with the player and then nothing happens?

Where is the official bid? Where are the leaks about Sancho asking for a transfer? WTF was the briefing for? If woodward was stupid enough to brief "positive developments" on a transfer he knew was never possible, we wasted all that time just to sign VDB? We are throwing Ole under a bus for social media hits?

It’s utterly shocking isn’t it. Bang average premier league midfielders and defenders are being valued at £40-£50 million and we can’t ship out our deadwood for even a fraction of that.

we're allegedly quoted:
80 million for an attacker that survived relegation on the last day of the season
35-40 million for a rotation winger that was injured for a huge amount of time and would maybe get 20 mins of a game max / start in crap FA cup ties
50 mill for a CDM that was injured at the time of the rumours.

Yet what would lingard or Pereria go for? 20mill max? These contract wages are a dead weight around the necks of the club. We are going to have to let so many players just walk at the end of their contracts because no one is taking phil jones on 100k per week.

Haven't given him any real chance to close the gap significantly or to even maintain our 3rd place finish will be a tough ask.

Club is a disappointment to its fans and once again to its manager. A week to make things right.

Not getting Sancho, especially after the briefing, and only signing VDB would be completely throwing Ole under the bus. Signing Sancho, huge intent signing to get us moving up the ladder, quality signing. The fans can rally around the club getting a huge deal over the line in COVID circumstances.

If we don't even offically bid for Sancho and we only sign VDB, it's probably the worst transfer window i would've seen and humiliating beyond the overpaying fellaini deadline day signing.

It's a worse transfer window than that really as we are so much worse and haven't just won a title.

It is, but you would think they have realised that you have to spend to even maintain a Top 4 finish. It is very easy to fall out of the top 4. An injury to the wrong player can annihilate your season.

And we’ve just done the same damn thing with Henderson. Don’t get me wrong the boy looks quality, but so did Taibi before we signed him.

If he flops we’ll be hard pressed to find a buyer because of his £100k A week wage.

Selling those 6 won't even get you Sancho. Plus it is hard to get rid of players on high wages, which is always our problem.
 
We shouldn’t be surprised really we’ve seen this all before. Same happened the last time we secured a top 4 finish, everyone expected or hoped we’d spend big and really kick on and properly challenge the following season only for the Glazers and Woodward to sit with their thumbs up their arse and fail to make the required reinforcements to the squad. Then watch us drift back down the table again leading to the manager getting sacked and we’re back to square one, rinse and repeat.:rolleyes:

We will be fighting with Spurs and Arsenal for 4th place.

If we can’t keep our front three, Shaw and Fernandes fit for the entire season then I can see us finishing 6th or 7th.

We'd be lucky to get top 4 with the squad as it is. We should be challenging for the title and the champions league this year. I'm not sure why we're having such trouble investing since we have the lowest wage to turnover in the league and literally no right winger in the squad.

To be fair part of the reason he was appointed was because he would be unlikely to rock the boat or challenge the board / owners
