Rednotdead having a meltdown because we've not signed a player for a couple of weeks and Arsenal have signed a winger.

We've spent £60m on two players already and the transfer window has not been open long. Luke Shaw was delayed because Southampton lost their manager, Herrera was done after a long legal process but only revealed in the press in the final two days.

The fact that our manager is still in Brazil managing his country and that most of our players we seem to be targeting are playing in a World Cup Final or 3/4th place playoff on Saturday & Sunday doesn't matter, we must sign somebody, anybody, because if we don't it is sheer incompetency from Woodward and United and we are all being lied to just so they can sell season tickets.

If rednotdead doesn't get a signing every week from now until September then this is what will happen. #prayforrednotdead

If we're interested in players like Di Maria, Hummels, Vidal then of course the deals can't be done early. The selling clubs don't need to sell, the players don't need to move, we aren't the only club who are interested. This isn't a buy-it now sale on eBay.

In some cases a different move can change the landscape - if a huge big comes in for Pogba (from PSG?) Vidal may not move. If PSG buy Pogba. Madrid may go for Verratti and Di Maria goes somewhere else. Barca want a centreback, if they get Marquinhos another chain begins. No one's going to rush into spending huge money (or selling in a hurry if they think another bid might come in). We're part of a multi-player puzzle but we're only one part and with a club like Madrid stating that, "nothing will happen until after the World Cup," it's hardly surprising that we've had a couple of weeks pause in the signings.

Oh, right. New manager who needs to get to know the existing players as well as integrate the new ones.

Multiple new signings needed.

No urgency at all then. Nothing different from any other season.

All you're doing is making excuses as to why players might not be signed.

If the rumors are true (and who knows what is really going on), we are targeting some very good players currently at leading clubs rather than second rate players at second tier clubs (Fellaini, Ashley Young etc.). Unless there are specific circumstances (such as their current club wanting to offload them to raise cash), it is a sellers' market for those type of players so either you offer to pay crazy money (which, being a business rather than a rich man's toy, we will try to avoid) or you attempt to negotiate a reasonable price, which may take time and may not even lead to an agreement being reached. Then there is also the small matter of whether the player is interested in coming to United since they probably have other options at leading clubs. It's just the way it is. If you are hinting that we should ultimately be willing to pay a bit over the odds at this moment in order to get us back on track, then I would agree but I don't think we are yet far enough into the transfer window that we need to start worrying.

I much prefer silence and denials than his previous Jay from the Inbetweeners act

Yeah, honestly. I'd rather there be absolute silence and then a sudden announcement from out of the blue with the deal signed, sealed and delivered.

Much better than last season's dragging of the United name through the mud with us being linked to every player fancied to be worth more than 40 million quid and then having them "reject" United. Or even worse still. Seeing the deal fall through due to god knows what happenings behind the scenes.

The current silent treatment is far more acceptable to me. I simply cannot wait for the new season to start already.

You strike me as the person who would want the club to overspend so we get the signings done quickly and then complain we're spending too much on players.

How about this:

Hummels - £50m
Di Maria - £60m
Vidal - £70m

£180m should get it done and dusted by the end of next week, add Shaw and Herrera, that's £240m.

At this point you will complain because we have too many players now so you want to quickly get rid, for the lowest price possible.

Young - £5m
Anderson - £5m
Nani - £7.5m
Hernandez - £7.5m
Cleverley - £5m
Fellaini - £5m

If Madrid want Di Maria out of the road to make way for Rodriquez, no way should we pay more than they are for him for D Maria and we'd be even more mental to sell at the prices you quoted

The problem is people don't analyze and think out things before bringing out the daggers criticizing the club.

Di Maria - Madrid have no reason to sell. These rumours only started in conjunction with Madrid wanting to buy James Rodriguez (and/or Falcao). If that doesn't happen, they have absolutely no reason to sell Di Maria.

Hummels - Dortmund don't want or need to sell and there is no indications the player himself is interested in moving.

Vidal - This is probably the most likely to happen. Still, Juventus don't really need to sell either and if this guy is indeed the best midfielder in the world, we won't be the only ones chasing him.

I find it hilarious that people are now panicking thinking we have to "match" Arsenal in the transfer window, just because they made an expensive signing in a position they didn't really need to strengthen (for the second Summer running). So what if they got yet another skilful midget number 10 to add to the 27 or so they already have. Wenger's been doing the same for years. Still a team full of injury prone lightweight pussies who are no threat to the title.

What the hell are you on about? Try reading the posts you quote.

If Arsenal go out tomorrow and sign a worldie CB, a worldie CF and a worldie GK, then we need to start worrying about what they're up to.

They can buy as many wingers and CMs as they like. I literally could not care less.

They could say the same about us for CB, CM and a winger as well, though.

We have been linked with three big players everyday and He must atleast quash those rumours if the papers are indeed bullshitting. These rumors increases everyone's expectations and if he cannot meet them, then the fans are going to go mental on him.

Madrid don't have any logical reason to sell di Maria, but they will. They want a new shiny toy, and logic doesn't apply at this club. I'm almost certain he will not be at Madrid next season.

Yes, but they will sell only if they get this shiny new toy.

They are also the type to get deals done a year or so early; a bit of tapping up for a season can always sweeten the deal. Could mean letting di Maria go to show their toy how much they want and need him.

You reckon he should come out and quash every single rumour!

We're linked with a lot of players everyday in every country. You want Woodward to deny every single one?

What if indeed they are just media Bollocks?. The meltdown in here would be unbearable if we don't sign these players and he will be the one who is made out to be a scapegoat.

Of course, He cannot possibly deny every single rumour. But he has leaked out information in the past and could do so again, for players like Vidal, Di Maria etc., Whom we are constantly being linked with. ( provided there is nothing to it). It is in his best interests that he doesn't get the expectations of the fans higher and let them down.

We should be able to get double the price for almost all the players you mentioned except Anderson. So thats approximately 60-65 mil pounds.

And Hummels+ Di Maria + Vidal would cost around 130 mil. So thats a net spend of 130 m. And this can be done because we will also be freeing up 500k per week with even Vidic, Rio and Evra all gone.

I know the the context of your post but just speculating to join in on the transfer fun.

The club has no obligation to respond to rumours just to make sure you don't get disappointed by expectations set by yourself. If you don't want to get let down, don't believe every single rumour you read.

Yea, I mean SAF and Gill always quashed every bullshit news report.

Oh wait..

I personally don't. But just look at the Vidal, Di Maria and Hummels threads and say that to the muppets. They don't care.

Nope. Their positions were never untenable as his.

If we have no more signings and another poor season, Guess who is going to be made scapegoat.

His position is not untenable ffs.

'protecting muppets from disappointment' is not a part of his job description, he's under no obligation to inform us of what transfer speculation is and is not accurate. Thank god.

If we fail to bring in any top level talent this window it won't be down to Woodward being a crap CEO, it'll be down to the fact that we appointed the wrong man to take over from SAF and took too long to realise it, resulting in no CL football.

Disagree. Woodward should have daily news conferences to state which dailymail/metro/goal.com/express/onion stories about players we're signing are true or (most likely) false, just to keep clarity. If he doesn't do this he's clearing failing at his job imo

If I ever meet you I'm going to offer to buy you a pint, and then not do.

lol, yeah the point was for those people that are impatient. We need a centre back but otherwise our squad is fine for this coming season therefore we should target players of the highest ability looking to land one, even if it's Khedira providing the price is acceptable for a player with one year left on his contract.

Acceptable bids:

Hummels - £35m
di Maria - £45m
Vidal - £55m

But since those are the high end, we should begin negotiations lower as the club might be open to selling. E.g. Real Madrid to fund the signing of another player might sell for £35m or Juventus for £45m.

The above totals £135m and then add £60m for the current two, that would see a spend of £195m. I would even target Khedira for £25m so a spend of £220m.

We should be able to sell £70m worth of players you would think, a net spend of £150m is reasonable on the basis we look to be getting a new incredibly lucrative sponsorship deal, as you mentioned we have slashed the wage bill, we also quite possibly have a higher transfer budget due to Ferguson's lack of spending prior to his final two seasons and we could even use additional funds now but have a reduced budget for the next two or three seasons (£40m).

If Louis van Gaal wants, financially we could finance these moves. As it is though the club's might not want to sell or the players might not want to join, but if these players are targets of Louis van Gaal I'm sure Ed is in contact with the clubs.

Many posters will consider him a poor CEO if he fails to bring in a top name even when he will probably have negotiated a sponsorship deal that obliterates the current world record.

Only posters who view 'top name' as important. We need suitable players not a 'top name', this isn't the guest list at Smash Hits.

There's that word!

I think the same can be said about us - I'm honestly not concerned about arsenal.

That's because many posters don't have a clue.
