Woman accuses Cristiano Ronaldo of rape - CR7 case only

@carvajal So far haven't been following this too much here, don't know if @Peyroteo knows more than me, don't want to judge something that I don't know. Lets see what happens.

Have any of his sponsors commented on the allegations, or withdrawn sponsorship yet? A lot of them do even when it's only at the allegations stage.

Probably too early for that. It will be interesting to see how it plays out if he's convicted in a civil court. I feel it explains why we didn't move for him in the summer. Remember the public outrage when Ched Evans was signed up after being released from prison. Imagine having Ronaldo at the club if he gets convicted.

Very interesting. What struck me most is this tweet. The questionnaire with questions that disappeared. @Peyroteo @SCP Have you read that in Portuguese? What about "Made herself available?" (disponivel?), what do you think it means? she agreed to go with him and later refused.

I don’t know. I’ve only seen the documents after they were translated since those were the only ones they showed so I can’t comment on how they were translated or if they lost any of the context in doing so.

The documents everyone is using to believe he’s guilty are illegally obtained documents with no verification of them actually existing and it’s a translated version of them. They also have statements that directly contradict eachother.

It will degrade his image and he might even lose some sponsors over it but there’s no chance he actually gets convicted or the public actually finds out if anything happened. Just like after all the other Spiegel articles before this one.

There's a chance he gets convicted in a civil court in absentia I think. Perhaps @jojojo has better insight?

If he does it will be pretty big.

Ronaldo was asked about the subject and answered that it was fake news and there were people (the journalists) trying to make money from his name.

This is what the journalist took out of that statement.

Complete lie. Ronaldo didn’t talk about the woman at all. Not sure if it’s scarier that he’s lying on purpose or that he’s not able to get the obvious context out of a simple statement given they were the ones who apparently translated the documents.

@Classical Mechanic with the evidence that’s been presented by Spiegel and the documents that would have any consideration in court, there’s no chance he gets convicted. I’m guessing it’s entirely possible there’s more to it than that though. The only thing to do now is wait and see what happens given we don’t really know what’s true or not.

I think Spiegel getting sued for publishing illegally obtained documents that themselves admit were statements said by Ronaldo to his lawyer in confidence is pretty much a certainty though. Unless I’ve missed something and that’s somehow legal.

Don't some countries allow that sort of thing if it's deemed to be in the public interest? Spiegel could probably make a strong argument for that being the case here.

Not sure if that’s the case but that would make sense.

I think that would happen only if he is convicted. And quite frankly, that would be his biggest fear as there is little chance of prison for someone as famous and influential as him (assuming he's guilty).

He's built up the CR7 brand to remain relevant once he retires, but this has the potential to escalate and ruin his brand ala Tiger Woods.

Indeed and when people say they payment indicates guilt Im sure a lawyer will argue - no, not at all it was to protect his brand from these false accusations as im sure $375k is pretty insignificant compared to all his sponsorship and media rights over the last decade.

One things for sure I doubt CR7 is heading to MLS anytime soon

I don't really see this becoming a bigger story though. Reckon it'll die off.

I doubt we’re going to see anything other than a civil trial, at the most. That doesn’t really have the same pizzazz as a criminal trial would have.
What's she claiming... Another 200k... Might see him pay her off and another NDA? Probably more cost effective than loosing a sponsor or two

I’d imagine so.

I really don’t want to get into any speculation, but if he did do it then I would think that she is more interested in seeing Ronaldo facing criminal charges rather than being paid off again.

Could be talking out of my arse though.

Some incredibly weird people in this thread reading back on it and it's no surprise that as a society females struggle to get justice for these incidents, based on peoples views in here and general thinking.

'Disheartened' is a curious choice of word tbh. Surely 'concerned' would be more appropriate.

Disheartened is a place holder term that can be conveniently up or downgraded based on subsequent news of the case.

As much as I admire the guy, the fact that a $375,000 payment was made to keep quiet with the allegations is very telling.

Something has happened, I'm in no place to say what has happened though, but if it goes to court etc, he should be held accountable like any other person and be punished to the full extent of the law. Celebrity status has no place in alleviating sentences, I hate that.

It's a blandism, that's for sure, but I've read dozens of press releases and RNS nearly every day for nigh on 18 years. That word seldom crops up.
I think 'cautious optimism' is my bugbear banality.

If that court document is legitimate, it’s damning. If she truly said no numerous times and he nonetheless sodomised her, then he’s a bastard and deserves the comeuppance.

Agree.

However, hypothetically, if he is found guilty, do you think his sentence will be less severe given his status?

Blokes.

I'm just sick of the stuff in the media now, guys accused of things without evidence having their lives ruined. Innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply in a regressive left society. Punish people for provable crimes, protect their identity until there is actually any evidence. This US Judge case at the moment is a farce, absolutely not a shred of evidence yet he's being dragged through the whole circus. Did he do it? Maybe, but that means nothing without evidence.

What actually happened here?

Girl & guy went home together, had sex, he pushed for anal, so offered it, but said ”no, stop” some times but didn’t just get off the bed and kept her ass in position so he ”pushed his luck” a bit too much?

Is that right? Or has he taken her to the room and pinned her down against her will and raped her? I can’t really make head nor tail of the information out there.

Who is to say she didn't try and get out of the anal position though? If she went to the police (albeit convinced not to give much details) Id be inclined to believe the anal play was more forced than you make it sound.

Just speculating though, which I hate doing in such serious cases.

Well in the quotes everyone is saying make him look guilty, doesn’t it also say ”she kept offering her ass”?

You can go from behind the normal way though. He seemed to have forced it into the wrong hole despite her saying no several times. I'm guessing she switched position just to go "doggy style"?

Ahh maybe that’s the case, sneaky anal attempt and she was hoping he’d go back to normal sex but he instead gave it multiple tries.

Don't you think it's curious that you're so concerned about what guys have to put up with? You could easily flip it the other way and say ...

"I'm sick of this stuff now, over and over again women make credible claims of rape and they aren't even taken seriously, never mind prosecuted. Then when it comes into the public view, the reputation of claimed victims is dragged through the mud.

You have people like fergieisold deciding one woman is a money-grabbing whore despite having no understanding of the facts. While on the other hand he thinks one woman could well have been raped, but still, he thinks it's a tragedy that this claim is taken seriously."

Because that's what has been happening for decades. The idea that the power balance shifts slightly and it makes you genuinely outraged is really strange.
