Wimbledon 2015

He faced one break point all the way up until 5-6 in the third. Multiple games were won to love. He was serving at around 80% for a large percentage of the match, and taking pace off the serve was sensible given Karlovic can use every return game as an excuse to lash away at weak second serves. That's an impressive serving game overall.

Playing to his forehand regularly, which he did on the deck, too, was definitely an error.

If he serves like he did today, against the likes of Novak, he'll get eaten alive.

Ivo is a terrible returner, maybe thats why he took something off the serve, to protect his shoulder?

If he played a set against Novak winning 90% of first serves then I can assure you he would win that set. He did that today in the second, and the first wasn't too far behind.

His second serve is always an issue against Novak, but today isn't really a barometer of anything in that respect. The whole tour knows it's a weakness. I expect he'll be serving a lot faster against Pospisil in the knowledge he can afford more missed serves.

But thats the point, he wouldn't win 90% of first serves against Novak, if he served like he did today. The reason he got away with it today was because Ivo is a terrible returner. Like I say, maybe thats the reason he was holding back a bit, he knew he could get away with it today. Hopefully that was the case anyway.

He faced so few break points because his ground game is a lot better than Karlovic's, he serves immensely and closes the net well making him tough to break but when he isn't serving he just approaches the net at terrible times or is average from the baseline.

Karlovic also has one of the worst returns of serve in the game! if he serves at that level he won't win the championship, he really seems to have lost a bit of pace and confidence around his serve imo.

Every time I see Federer play I think they should ban two handed backhands.

So has anyone figured out murray's lunatic-like ranting and raving to his box all game long?

It looked clearly tactical to me. Missing first serves against a guy you just can't afford to lose your serve against is a brutal test of the second serve. Murray knew that, reduced the rate of the first serve and got the rewards. The two of you are essentially criticising him for playing the man over the net exactly how he should be played.

Obviously Murray isn't going to toss in 3/4 serves and hit 80% first serves against Djokovic. He'll speed it up and miss more as a result. He'll also get more aces and free points as a product of speeding it up.

On another note, Federer cruising.

I'm not an avid tennis fan but always enjoy watching it, what's the quality of Feds opposition been like? I've watched his games and it barely looks like he is exerting himself... have they all been fairly average?

Think Murray could do it again, will do it again if Djokovic goes out early.

Whats going on here?

Only just tuned in, and Novak is losing?

Not looking good in this second set for Anderson. I hope he can come back.

This is a brilliant performance. Much better than that dreddy fellow. Djokovic hasn't even played badly. This guy has been brutal.

Yeah he's been in second gear so far really... He's played a couple of big servers in Querrey and Groth, who can be tricky on grass I guess, but it's been pretty straightforward stuff. It'll be interesting to see how he handles the step-up in opposition from now on.

If I had any money I'd be lumping a load of it on a Novak comeback right about now

imagine if Djokivic remains on that one slam (AO) after all that talk about taking all 4. just typical.

If I'm not mistaken the talk was about him winning each grandslam at least once, which he failed to do at the French this year.

And there's the break, gift wrapped and everything. Typical
