Willian | Signed for Chelsea

We sold Ronaldo and didn't move backwards. Its all about making sure you strengthen the team well enough in his absence, and arguably with the players they are suppose to be bringing in, they have done that.

Will they all step up to replace Bales goals? Who knows; but the team is definitely stronger overall even without Bale.

Course we did. Sure we were still successful, but we were a weaker team.

We still won the league and competed in Europe well.

Sure our overall strength may not have been better, but then we did not spend the money and replace him with similar strength players.

Tottenham have done that; they have sold Bale and got Willian, Lamela, Chadli, Coentrao, Soldado.

In my eyes that has made Tottenham a better team overall.

Ronaldo is nowhere bear bale though and unlike Ronaldo can be replaced. I can see spurs being stronger without him but the signings need to be right.

I don't think I've ever seen Willian kick a ball... by all accounts his amazing at it though, so well done Spurs?

They haven't got Lamela and Coentrao yet. Agreed they probably would be a stronger team as Bale isn't as good as Ronaldo but then again the teams are relative. Bale to Spurs was important as Ronaldo to us was.

True but the transfers seem very likely.

And yes Bale was very important to them last season, but I can see them sharing the goals around the team a lot more. Relying on 1 player is not necessarily a better thing even if they are sensationally good.

Bale was much more important for Spurs - after Xmas he kept them in it single-handedly.

It's amazing how many people, not just on here, who've come to the conclusion, that even though they've never seen Willian play, his presence in a Spurs shirt is going to improve them dramatically.

Its the fee. Innit. ;)

We were linked with him and people declared their disgust at how overrated and over-priced he was.

Yet if he signed for Liverpool like you all expected, he would have been Torres, Gerrard and Fowler all rolled into 1!

To be fair; he said the same thing when it looked like they were going to sign him.

And I'm still confused.com if Willian is a brilliant player or a bit rubbish. No one really answered that.

Anyway, Yarmalenko now being linked to us. :D

30mil? Crikey. Surely Bale to Real is going to fund this? Spurs have already spend a bomb this Summer.

I've not been paying too much attention to the transfer window, but looking at Spurs spending to date combined with the proposed moved, they're heading towards having a £200m squad. Bale was a very good player for them, but their possible squad without Bale is a fair bit better than what they had last season with him. They really ought to pull ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool now.

Bale is a abit overrated. But if they can use the bale money to get 3 very good players they'll have a more balanced team. In the second half of last season it was all about bale largely because the rest of the team turned quite shit. And that's never a healthy situation for a team. This time I can see he contribution shared more evenly provided the individuals they get in are good enough.

If the window ends today, It'd take quite a bit for Spurs not to get 4th. Arsenal and Spurs were close in squad quality till last season, this window has really created a divide imo.

He has impressed me on UCL this season against both Chelsea and Juve when he was brilliant but that's all I have seen him. On the other side his stats aren't that good and he has been called only two times for Brazil so it could be that those matches weren't the norm.

Perhaps Spurs are spending to retain Bale?

Perhaps. How they're financing it would be incredible though considering how much they're spending. Its more likely to be Levy playing smart and getting players in before he sells Bale.

Like I posted before their net spend has been really low for the past two transfer windows so they do have money saved up. Plus even including willian their net spend will be around 70m pounds, assuming no one else leaves. They can easily keep bale with the increase in tv revenue, particularly if they do get CL. So Levy can afford to gamble one season on the CL with this much expenditure. It might dent their stadium hopes though.

Now we just need Real to pull out of the Bale deal and Spurs will be instantly liquidated. All of it Glaston's fault.

Either that or they'll slap everyone silly given they will actually have an excellent team.

His representative, by the way...

Who is this Ukrainian sounding block?

He's playing(and scored in the 1st half) right now in the Europe League qualifier..

BTW Rene has said he was "impressed" by Willian when the two had the two weeks together in Anzhi.. So, maybe we should be thinking about this one more time..

Townsend is having a decent game. Where do you think he'll end up in the priority list? You think Lennon might be sold this window?

I'd imagine we'd keep both players unless one or the other expresses a keen desire to leave. However, if we do sign Lamela (along with Willian) then in a 4-3-3 then both players are going to struggle for a starting spot in league games.

But in some league games we'll play 4-4-2 I'd guess, in which case it becomes more of an open question as to who would start.

According to Sky Sports, Willian has passed a medical and is now considering his options. If he does sign for Spurs, their spending spree this summer will be just over £90 million.
