Sly are you still thinking he's going no where tomorrow for less than the buy out clause? Serious question.

Mate i´ve said since the start that i´m very skeptical that he would move this year. What seems apparent is that all this big club rumours are messing his head. Although he´s always one of the best in our team, this isn´t the Carvalho of last season yet.

Ah just wanted to latest inside info pal. Much appreciated. Yes thats what happens i.e. Herrera took awhile last season to find form after a summer of being linked with us. Sure he'll come right once more as soon as the window closes. I suspect afew clubs will go in again tomorrow for him officially and test your resolve but it seems from your clubs standpoint they will be wasting there time.

No worries mate. To tell you the truth, this more based in a hunch and interpretation of our President´s words. Carvalho has alot of potencial and we Sporting fans love him but the truth is that he needs more than just a very good season to deserve the kind of price tag that our President is asking. That´s why the clubs are hesitant. From our behalf, i also understand that our President doesn´t want to "lose" the best player of our team for "peanuts". Better to wait one more year to see his evolution.

Think Blind is the DM player along with Carrick for this season from the voices coming from the club. Perhaps Strootman being in contention next summer alongside players like Carvalho etc to replace Carrick long term.

I have the same opinion. I think Blind is a very interesting player and will do well for United. Van Gaal knows him and will surely use him well.

Mirror going with story that he United sent scouts yesterday to Lisbon. I wonder if this was to look at Carvalho?

I didn't see the game but have heard a lot of reports from fans on forums and twitter saying he wasn't very good.

It´s not a question that he wasn´t very good, it´s more he isn´t as good as last year yet. He was still one of the best. He´s a bit off form and all the transfer rumours are clearly messing his head.

Yeah not the best phrase "not very good" but "off form" or "not at his best" would be a better phrase going on what everyone has said.

I don't know what the scouts are looking for but some mentioned that we are desperate for a player who will run the game from deep and he never really got a grip on it and they would worry that would be amplified in premier league games.

Like Matic? I disagree with that assessment but i don´t think it matters, since i doubt he will move anyways. Transfer deadline day is terrible for us second tier league club fans. We are dreading that he leaves but it´s only one day left for the speculation to go away. At least until January.

Booooo. Neither Carvalho nor yourself are getting into the spirit of Woodward's Deadline Day. This is a day of possibilities, a day for yes, not no. Shame on Carvalho for saying no and shame on you for sharing this. To the Vidal thread.

Remember it only shuts down in Eastern Europe in the 5th or 6th of September. I don't think Carvalho would ever go there, but Witsel and Hulk came out of the blue at the time, so 100% certainties only when those markets close. I think FFP is hampering most of those clubs ability to spend though, so I reckon it's a "safer" year than usual.

The only club who made an offer yesterday was Arsenal. It was 16 millions and Joel Campbell. It was rejected. Our counter offer was 30 million with no players. Wenger rejected. Next year he will move, i´m pretty sure.

Wow talk about being skint if reports of that offer are accurate of course. Arsenal badly need a combative central midfielder and 30 million is a fairly reasonable price for a young quality defensive midfielder in this market.. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a terrific season and goes on to a bigger club like Real or Bayern for 37 million.

Thats not too bad of a deal tbh if it was a full transfer for Campbell. Joel is worth around 10m and would probably guarantee goals @ Sporting. So the estimation was only about 5m off really. Though I'm guessing it was a loan deal right?

As per Miguel Delaney (ESPN), he was not minded to moving to United because of a lack of CL football:

United also attempted a similar partial swap deal for Carvalho on deadline day itself, offering Anderson and a fee. Sporting Lisbon were not interested, and sources state that the player himself was still holding out for a move to Arsenal, due to their participation in the Champions League.

@Sly : How has Nani looked so far? Think he could be used to land Carvalho next summer?

Has been average so far. But progressively getting better. He only played two games and is still getting used to the team and our manager´s coaching methods. Even so he is already our most dangerous player besides Carrillo. I think he will keep improving during the season. We can use his experience and ability to create in the champions league.

No. I think he will use the loan to regain his form and confidence and move to Spain or Italy. We can´t afford him and i doubt United will want to keep paying his wages.

He was ok tonight, stood out more than young Ruben Neves, but after watching Valencia I'd say Andre Gomez is looking the pick of the new Portuguese CM's.

He seems to stroll around too much for someone in his role, In my opinion.

He 'strolls around' constantly and heads off a lot of stuff at source - if he doesn't he's got the pace to get back and sort it. I watched the first half and he was near flawless (one stray pass, one foul, one turn-over) albeit against a very limp Porto.

Ruben Neves was unimpressive but he´s very young and was playing his first portuguese big game. We have to cut some slack. He has lost some steam in the last weeks but the potencial is still there. We can´t forget that he´s only 17.

Take it easy with André Gomes. He had an impressive start of season with Valência but it´s still too early to call him the pick of the new portuguese CM´s. I mean last season he spent most of the season at the bench or at Benfica B. He has to prove way more than just a couple of good games for Valência. Let´s see how his season goes before making that kind of assumptions.

He has more freedom in this new Marco Silva setup. We changed our midfield and with João Mário, we have a player that complements Carvalho very well and can cover his position when he "strolls around". Under Leonardo Jardim, he was grounded tactically to the DM position and rarely moved from that box.
Carvalho started the season slowly albeit still being one of our best players. In the last games he has been picking up form and will soon be the Carvalho from last season. He is an absolutely essencial player for us.

In fairness Sly I did mention Neves being young and prefaced my comments on Gomez with the word "looking" as admittedly there is plenty of room for all 3 players to develop or stagnate. I just like the way Gomez moves, passes it well with both feet, competes strongly in the tackle and gets in shooting positions, perhaps my box to box preference showing. If all 3 develop as well as hoped they'd actually compliment each other quite well in a midfield 3 for the national side.

I'd guess we will be after him if we can't get Strootman. Still think LvG will want a physically dominant midfielder.

Whenever I've watched him he's got the turning circle of a barge.
