Won't he be pulled out of the game tonight if a move is imminent? Therefore we should have a good idea if this is really "on" by 6pm or whenever the teams are released.
Can't decide whether we need another CM or a CB most.
Fully agree with you. We need another midfielder in, preferably a mobile hacking machine. We have four senior centre-backs with Blackett looking like he can step up as well. The change to four at the back looks like a matter of time so we're more than covered there.
Central midfield is our most pressing concern, in my opinion. With the added bonus that fixing it would have a knock-on effect on our defence, who have a black hole in front of them as it stands.

We have 4 senior CB's but in my opinion they are not good enough to get us where we need to be. Switching to 4 at the back will help massively but it doesn't look like coming to me.
I have posted this before, we could have Maldini and Nesta in their prime in our back line , but with our midfield, they would still be under pressure.
Improving our midfield will have a knock on effect on both sides of the pitch. I pointed out to EssexRob, the example of Cahill, who was very underrated and he excels in Chelsea because of their midfield setup and struggles when he plays for England.

Well taking Benfica as example, they don´t care if a player transfer is imminent. In Matic´s case, he played a big game (can´t remember if it was against Sporting or Porto) before moving to Chelsea. There was no problem there. But in another case, they lost a big transfer when they played Sálvio against us and he got seriously injured . He was going to Zenit for 25 million or something and they backed off after he got injured 6 months by playing in that game.
What are the chances of him leaving tomorrow, @Sly?. Whats the news in Portugese media?.
Anderson as part of the deal?

Don´t think so. There are no rumours or info regarding players arriving at Sporting. Only Carvalho and Slimani transfer rumours.
If we decide to go in for Carvalho, which is apparently why we'll be there tonight, then we might propose this. Spurs sold us Berbatov at the last minute and took Campbell on loan. Maybe a deal like this will be sufficient for Sporting.
@Sly
No offence, but it seems like Sporting are the ultimate "selling club". It seems like their strategy is to develop young players and sell them for maximum prices. It seems that this would be the "peak" of what they could get for Carvalho.
What the lads buyout clause? IF he is good as everyone makes out why aren't we just activating it giving Sporting no choice but to allow him to hold talks with us?
Yeah, fair enough, he might go up in value, although it's a risk for Sporting to waitNon taken. We know that portuguese/dutch/belgian clubs are in essence selling clubs. I just don´t agree that this would be the peak. The peak would be after he proves himself in a major competition (Champions League) and not just after a very good season of domestic football. I understand the clubs reluctance to pay this hefty price tag, that´s why i think he should play european football at our club to prove that he is worthy of a big league move.
Aye, with Carvalho it is always polemic.
Is that what's it's come to, wink wink nudge nudgeMatch is on BT Sport 2 at 7pm. I'll be looking for any waving and blowing of kisses after the match.

This deal won't happen now. We signed Blind to be our no.6 and we won't play with two holding midfielders when we have Di Maria, Herrera and Mata. Can't understand why we're still being linked with him after it has become obvious we bought Blind to link the defense and the midfield.
Not his best game but one of the best never the less. It´s not the William of last year, he´s currently out of form. Naby Sarr continues to impress me. Him and Rojo would make a very good center back duo.
