Just watched the Sporting vs Benfica game from last night, pretty scrappy stuff but he was very good in the holding role, winning one on one's with ease, showing great composure on the ball and passing it nicely into the forward players. Him and João Mário look to have a good understanding in Sporting's midfield.

The one negative mark was that he didn't react at all to Jardel when Benfica scored their equalizer.
He was great, probably Sporting's man of the match along with Tobias Figueiredo. Benfica's goal was just a lucky bounce, hardly anything else to be done there.

Just a shame that Benfica didn't try to play at all, contradicting everything Jorge Jesus claims to be about. Would have been a much better game otherwise.

It was the type of performance I imagine got him noticed to start with, has he been back on form after a poor start to the season? His control and mobility in tight situations was impressive.

Benefica's coach is a loon, every time I see him he's going berserk. I thought he left it too late to bring Talisca on.

William has been rounding into form. Since the Braga game a while back he's been great in pretty much every match. I just wish he could be a little faster making his passes sometimes. He breaks the teams' pace occasionally.

Yeah, loon is a pretty good description... Talisca came in late, but the way they were playing wasn't a great fit for him, plus he came on as left winger when he's actually a second striker and has played a lot as CAM. William had a fantastic tackle on him in the box.

I'd rather Wanyama, but Carvalho is also the sort of powerhouse our midfield is crying out for.

Should be a priority

6ft1
22 years of age
Would understand Di Maria's game
Physical player
He can actually tackle :nervous:, A United player that can actually tackle
Played with Marcos Rojo

With th 20M we gave them for Rojo, we should be first to talk with them.

Let's give them Nani and we'll just have to add a bit of money, but the problem here is that we'll have 3 players for 1 position (Blind / Carrick and him)

That aint a problem. He will be the best out of the three. Carrick is already 34. He cant play every week and Blind is weak. Carvalho will start for us. And given our injuries in defense, Blind will play there half the time.

I've heard rave reviews about this lad, but can't remember having seen him play (bar the World Cup where he was shite). Is he all he is said to be?

Played with Marcos Rojo

They had a very good understanding. Barros is correct, we have 100% of his rights now. I´m still on a limb with Carvalho. In the last two months he has been very good and showed last year´s potencial again but i can´t neglect the fact that he had a poor champions league campaign. He would be worth a gamble for a lower fee than the reported ones, the problem is, it´s unlikely our president will lower his demands. I´m almost certain he will move next year, just a question of to where. After rejecting the Arsenal bid last year (with the effects it had on his start of the season), i think we will allow him to move. Not sure about United but there are plenty of rumours regarding other clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool and Valência). Nuno Espírito Santo, the Valência manager, knows him very well and is a fan of him.

We can´t afford Nani. I already said this multiple times. Are United willing to pay his wages again? I mean just look at our wage cap. It´s 1,2 million euros per year. It has been very good to have Nani around again but i highly doubt he will stay under any new deals unless you wanna do the same type of Rojo deal. Even regarding Nani´s wishes i think he will want to move on into a more competitive league. His objective here is almost done (he just has to win us the portuguese cup). He rehabilitated his career, played extremely well in the Champions League, has been consistent and with few injuries. He's ready to a new challenge in a top league and i don't have any negative feelings towards him if he wants to leave.

He is really, really good on the youtube.

Was shite in the World Cup, but you've said that already.

That's all I know.

Everyone was shite in the World cup. Not a single portuguese player gets credit there. My problem is actually his poor champions league campaign. I expected him to be our driving force. He wasn´t. It was Nani followed by João Mário, Adrien and Carrillo. If he wants to move to a top league/club like he is constantly mentioning, he has to do better in the elite tournaments.

I see, that doesn't sound too encouraging alas.

He has the ability to read a game and position well, They both have that Portuguese league connection, hopefully he feeds the ball to him the way Yebda did even if I consider Carvalho to be twice the player Yebda was

What has happened to him this year?

Appears to have gone from a guaranteed Carrick replacement to no mentions anymore.

The played in the same league. So what?!

He's looked quite good vs England u21s tonight.

Hmm...should players who have featured for their senior national team in a world cup be allowed to play at these youth tourneys?

P.S Carvalho is so 2013 :wenger:

This is why we wait and see I think, although now would be a good time to bring him in given that he's out of fashion, you'd probably get him for 10m.... last year it was 40 haha - and fans wanted us to pay it !

13 caps as well, 23 years old! That said Mata won player of the tournament at the U21 tournament a few years back, at home he had a World Cup winners medal.

I am not reading too much into the performance. This England side has a great attack and defence (when fit) but the midfield is really weak.

He had a good game tonight but Southgate helped him by putting two players half his size on him instead of dropping Kane deeper next to him. Hughes and Carrol just bounced off him.

to be fair, Kane did the same in that one duel they had :D
Looks like a lovely player, very composed on the ball....

Played well enough today. A few overhit passes on occasions but decent performance.
