After we signed Fellaini for £27.5M, Ed has gave himself a reputation of being a crap negotiator, I can see him sitting there offering a fiver with a snickers bar and the other club saying £100M, Ed agrees on £101M and thinks his come out strong.

I think that's sound reasoning. I'd be pushing it with Ed seeing his track record so far. 27m for Fellaini. Paying Nani's wages in full and 16m for Rojo. 27m for a teenager at LB. Yeah I'd try my hand.

I'm talking about the US game when he came on a second half sub. I thought he looked really good. About the only Portuguese player who did. Just my opinion.

I thought he looked excellent in that game too. There was a period where he seemed to hoover up the ball any time it can remotely close to him. I didn't see the Ghana match.

They know full well we'll pay that come Monday night if we haven't signed anyone. Fellaini was close to €40m wasn't he?

The comparison to Fellaini is misplaced. Fellaini was playing in the Premier League and despite all the bashing that he gets he is a very useful player when played as a 10. He just doesn't fit in our system.

Carvalho on the other hand is in a weaker league. Has played only 30 odd games for Sporting. Yes he has potential but he isn't exactly world class or even Prem proven to command that fee. There is a reason many clubs have balked at that price. It is simply too risky to sign a player for that high a fee purely on potential.

Yup just like Fellaini, his buyout clause was £23M (correct me if I'm wrong) and Ed waited for it to expire and paid £27.5M

Yes lets just ignore the fact that Moyes actually knew about it and still decided to go ahead and wait it out before deciding on buying him.

LVG strongly hinted on Thursday that more players may be coming in by Monday night. So if we're not getting Carvalho who are we getting? Who else is on our radar?

That Lucas Silva lad from Cruzeiro, back ups he can always turn to in De Jong and Blind. Herrera popped out of no where so we just have to wait and something will come up I guess. I'm not convinced the Carvalho one is dead yet.

Havent really seen anything that would suggest either Vidal or Carvalho deals are definitely dead.

Vidal's tweet only said he was at 100% strength and ready to start the championship. Nothing definitive considering an accepted bid would change everything.

If it's the same setup as LVG who in the press conference said that he identifies the player he wants in/out the Ed does the business side of it. It's more then likely that it was the same as when Moyes was in charge, regardless of who was at fault Fellaini was not worth £27.5M and my personally opinion is he was never a player of UTD's standard.

I think Ed has over paid for every deal he has done and u can't see him stopping, his like a child in a sweet shop with a "unlimited budget"

But usually with buy out clauses you pay the full fee up front no negotiations.

Even if we paid £4m the deferral of the fee over a few years may have been worth it.
Or we may just have thought we would get someone better and Fellani was a last resort.

Why do you say that?
He seems quite static, Carrick-esque. Players in his mould should not be played in a midfield of two.

- Firstly, look at who he is replacing...Fletcher and Cleverley.....he cannot be any worse. Saw him at the World cup too and he looked really good.
There is a lot of midfielders better than those two. Not really a factor which should decide if we want a player or not.

- He's going to play the same position as Carrick, who will take some of that pressure off. Good player to learn from too. People forget we still have MC.
Agreed.

- It doesn't matter if he can 'only' play in a 3 man midfield (not sure if that is even true) because we have a manager who 'only' plays three man midfields.
- There is no reason why he couldn't play as part of a double pivot in a 4-2-3-1.
We have not seen a true 4-3-3 yet, but I agree- it seems we will eventually play in that formation. Just pointing out that 4-2-3-1 won’t work for him IMO.

From what I’ve seen and heard, he is a typical DM, his main attribute is positioning and braking up play. A little bit like Carrick, but his passing is worse.

I might be wrong about him, but my point stands: he will be under enormous pressure if he comes and we desperately need finished article in midfield.

Again, I’m not saying he will fail here, I’m just having doubts about him.

So is this one dead in the water yet? Shame as I would have quite liked him here.

Was between him and Strootman due to Vidal not being possible it seems

LVG going for blind until Strootman available. Blind will probably be happy to be a squad player too, whereas if we signed carvallho Strootman would never have happened
