William Carvalho

regardless of who it is - but we are now 2 players away from having a team that (imo) can match any team in the P.L. Carvalho is certainly a good option if we can't get Vidal

When this was rumoured last season I was interested. He seemed to fit the bill in terms of what we need in midfield. He didn't seem that impressive at the World Cup unfortunately but I still would like him here. Arsenal do seem to be the major interest though, expect he'll end up there or stay at Sporting for another season.

I love those statements. It sounds clear and then with the last bit it negates everything which was said before

We have Mendes on our side so I think we are in the driving seat for Willy

Sporting probably know less than most about whether he is leaving or not. If we want him we will be talking to Mendes and the first thing Sporting will know about it is the bid they'll be loathing themselves for accepting.

Sporting are desperate for money, there's no way he wont be sold

How good Carvalho is? What type of player he is? Will he suit our current formation?

We are? Our budget is already covered with the Champions League money, Dier and Rojo sale. I´ve said this from the start, i highly doubt he will be sold now. Best chance to make a deal was before the season started. Now it would have to be a very good deal in financial terms.

If he's about to be sold who are your back up option, are there anyone from reserve to cover or you guys need to look from outside?

I was thinking more of the c.340m pounds in debt you are with an expensive stadium you cant fill.

Although yes your recent sales will certainly help

If rumours that mendes was told to tell us that his price has dropped by c.10m gbp, (which would explain our interest again) are accurate, you must be needing the sale

We finished the financial reestructuration, so the debt isn´t the issue here. Every club has debt, including United. It´s manageable. Our expensive stadium has an average of 30 to 35k (with full capacity for big games) which is very good for the portuguese reality. We are following the financial plan to pay it without any issue. It isn´t the transfers that are going to pay the stadium. We have a financial plan since 2003 for that. It´s not only the sales, it´s the tv money and the champions league revenue.

Those rumours haven´t been confirmed any where. It´s an invention from english media.

We would probably need to buy. We bought Oriol Rosell and Slavchev but they are still too raw to replace a player of Carvalho´s reputation and influence.

Will 35 million euros with 5 mill for add on bonus be enough or too much?

I have no idea at the moment mate. I´ll consider the rumours of a price drop as english media fabrication until i have some proof. I don´t know what our President is asking except for his media interventions. Of course things can change with a good negotiation but like i said, it´s probably too late for a deal now, unless we have a plan B in place in case we sell Carvalho. When we sold Dier, the next day we were presenting french u20 internacional Naby Sarr (who has been playing very well by the way).

Are you linked with any midfielders at all?

No link mate. The only midfield we have been linked to was Anderson, which was an english media link. We bought a french striker yesterday Sacko (must be the Rojo money)

Does this guy close people down? Combative? Or does he sit deep? From what I saw at the world cup he just sat there and barely moved, which is not what I personally want to see.

Still maintain this player is not what LvG really wants.

And he's better than Dier imo

No he's another bebe.

dude go back on this thread and read what Sly already said about him.

Natural Midfielders
Anderson (Not at the right level)
Carrick (First choice mid, immobile, distribution)
Herrera (First choice partner, mobile, energy, linking)
Fletcher (Not at the right level)
Periera (Not at the right level and offense minded but worth giving minutes)
Cleverley (Probably Sold)
Fellaini (Needs to be sold)

Can play in midfield
Di Maria (Should play in midfield if we play 3 in the center)
Powell (Not at the right level and offense minded)
Petrucci (Not at the right level and offense minded)

It's clear to me we need a defensive minded player, Carvalho would fit that perfectly, if we (low and behold) managed to sign Vidal..

I think it´s the sensible decision. I can understand the reluctance to pay this hefty price tag for someone with one very good season. If Carvalho indeed is the player i´m hoping he will become, this year with the Champions League campaign, he will have the perfect stage to prove himself worthy of a big transfer to an european top league. Next year is the perfect year for him to move.

Wut?

Presume you mean stable midfield and hasn't Blind played as a defensive midfielder before?

Well bad phrasing on my part. What that was supposed to mean was that the stability of our defense is highly reliant on a midfield that the opposition can't just pass by without any resistance. People too often look at goals and only see that our defenders cam too late or weren't close enough to their opponent but miss the fact that those players often look bad because the rest of the team would just let them run past.

It's risky both ways.

If he is good in Europe then I can see quite a lot of teams chasing him next year. And the price would be increased significantly.

Yes it can be a risk but it´s difficult to conclude a deal at the moment. The price won´t increase significantly mate, there is a release clause.

It wasn't bad phrasing mate, very easy to understand what you meant
