William Carvalho

Quite like Carvalho, my only question mark is his pace. He is quite a slow player and doesn't really dictate a very quick tempo. I wonder if the club have briefed this story to the journos to try and knock a few pfennigs off the Vidal price. Basically saying, 'well you know, Arturo isn't our only option.' He is though!

Offer them £24m plus Anderson, United paying him 100% of his wages. Maybe he can salvage a career back in Portugal with Sporting.

Whoever you give that poisoned chalice to, you can be sure it's the last piece of business you're doing with them

He's being rumoured for Porto as well if we don't get Clasie. FML.

£24m in the current market is a deal even if he never reached his full potential he'll always have a resale value due to his age.

Perhaps that's the reason why we ain't getting Cuadrado?!

Anyway, take Anderson back. Don't be shy, we insist. Who knows, maybe you'll meet Pool and Chelsea in the CL and Ando can defecate over Gerrard and Fabregas again.

He really looks like the missing piece in our midfield. Of course it could all be bollocks, but I am genuinely excited about this. Only 22 years old as well. There's not a player in the squad that can do what he does anymore. Playing him, Herrera, Di Maria and Mata in the same midfield would be amazing. Love the balance there.

£24m is a a no brainier for a player of his potential quality. People will say that Di Maria will be the difference maker, but I will say that Carvalho strength, composure and ability to pass from the back under pressure will make our attack more lethal.

I can't see how he would fit in with Van Gaal's philosophy. He doesn't strike me as fit enough or hard working enough in the centre??

Hard working? Grant it I've only seen youtube clips but he never stops running and breaking up play, a true engine of a player that can read the game brilliant and deliver a brilliant pass. Don't think you'll get more hard working than that.

What philosophy? Surely none of Van Persie or Mata are hardworking, but they are still in the team. He fits into any managerial ideology that states the importance of a balanced midfield pairing. His positioning as a number 6 does not require him to work hard when partnered next to a box to box midfield. The problem with this hardworking tenant is not in this role, but upfront with Van Persie and mata who hinders us from adopting a high pressing game.

Neville has a hard on for power. So I imagine this signing will excite him.
Di Maria = pace + Carvalho = power and as we spent ridiculous money to buy English = Shaw as well, I bloody hope that Mr Neville is completely satisfied if this happens and keeps his mouth shut for a while at least as far as United and pace+power is concerned!

I think him, Di Maria and Herrera would be amazing in midfield together. They are all different players but they all have terrific drive. It would be night and day compared to what we've had to watch the last couple of years.

Please get him, he is perfect. I know because I am a professor level youtube viewer.

I like him as a player, but from what I have seen (and I can only judge him on a couple of Sporting games and the World cup) he is a bit of a trotter off the ball. I would have thought Van Gaal would be after a higher tempo player. Don't get me wrong I think he will turn out a very good player and I might be wrong about Van Gaal being after him. Just not sure it's what Van Gaal is after at the minute. It looks to me like it was pretty much a done deal with Moyes but got struck off when LVG arrived. Otherwise I would have expected him at the club much earlier in the window.

Just a thought but perhaps we've briefed the press to put the scare on Juve. Wouldn't surprise me if we are trying to force them into a deal.

Of course the interest could be genuine, but I think if we really wanted him he would be here by now.
I thought the same to be honest

But i would be feckin happy with Carvalho too.....of course Vidal would be amazing (Both isn't possible i reckon)

He could be our Yaya Toure in midfield but more defensive....Carvalho's presence would surely even Cattermole

Yeah, something seems off with this. Why would the club voluntarily reveal that they are considering a bid for a player, especially when others (Arsenal) are circling the same player. It seems tactical.

Ok who here works for United? I will be surprised if we get him with the amount of money we spend.

United employees (top to bottom) contractually aren't allowed to openly discuss the club on social media - including messageboards.

Back on topic, Carvalho would be a great signing, and we certainly need him more than Arsenal do!

Only seen the Portugal games and the video compilations - and read Sly's remarks about him - but, based on that I'd be absolutely thrilled if we could get this guy done in this window. So tired of being out played by mediocre players and out fought, with the purchase of Carvalho - we'd definitely be addressing the latter while already having addressed the ability to play with purchase of Herrera and Di Maria.

Been highly critical of Woodward but, it would be an almost perfect window even if we don't sell some of the players we should be offloading.

That's what they said about Ando, the next best thing with a resale value... Just saying

Well he did win the Golden Boy award and that's a sure sign of the players talent.

Some other winners of the award:

Rooney
Messi
Aguero
Fabregas
Gotze
Pogba

Not bad players, eh?

That 24 minute video was just . He is everything we have been looking for. If we don't get Vidal, he should be the immediate plan B. And we can TRY for Strootman next summer.

Only 52 post and you got promoted? You must the United employee . Nevertheless, I agree we need him more than Arsenal. I would be livid if we spend £20m for Blind, when Carvalho is rumored to be available for £24m. That sort of error in judgement with our transfer policy has gotten us in the situation we currently find ourselves in.

The missing piece in our midfield would be a real leader! I honestly see none in that quartet. Maybe one of them will step up, time will tell.

I'm starting to wonder whether we'd better getting Blind and Carvalho for the same money it would take to get Vidal - possibly less actually.

Carvalho would bring stability to both our midfielder and our back 4 by shielding them, and Blind effectively fills two positions with one squad place due to his versatility.

Vidal is all action and I adore him as a player but given how physical and box-to-box he is, that injury does concern me.

We'd be better getting Carvalho and Vlaar than Carvalho and Blind.

I can only comment on what I've seen in his brief appearances at the World Cup and in Portugal's friendlies before it but I wasn't particularly impressed.

He's slow and languid in his style, doesn't strike me as someone who would take charge in the midfield and that's what we need. Vidal would be that bloke.

No. Next year, i´d have no problem. If he left i´d be as gutted as when Ronaldo left us. He´s a bit of a cult figure for Sporting fans because of his playing style, physical power and of course because it´s another one from the Academy moving up. One of the big reasons why we will be on Champions League draw tomorrow. Just wait till next year. It´s win/win for all. He has the chance to prove himself in the Champions League and will help us fight the "evil empire"/Porto in our league. Then he can leave :smirk:

Under usual circumstances we could probably hold for a year, looking at the state of our midfield at the minute we need to sign someone this year.

Or we're already really close to signing him.

Could he also play a central part in the 3 man backline?

...............DDG
......Jones William Rojo
Rafael Herrera Carrick Shaw
...............Mata
.......Rooney van Persie

This is a joke right? Firstly why would you buy a pure CDM and play him there, and secondly, where the feck is Di Maria?

I had a similar number of posts when I was promoted... Just started posting at the end of the season when the board was quiet!

While we are on full Muppet, why not try for both him and Blind. Blind gives us the utility man player role. That role seems currently allocated to Jones which seems to be hindering his development as a defender.

Didn't Juve just reject the latest approach for Vidal at 43 million? (acc. to Italian gossipmongers)?

I see it as a negotiating tactic or a backup plan.

Christ, only four days to go and we're still only at considering him. Given that our preparing stage alone is 4-6 days, I think we can put this one to bed.

He looks too slow for the Premier League. I thought he was anonymous at the World Cup. I'm not sure his creativity and incisiveness as a passer will carry over to a stronger league.

But if the club is looking for a younger CDM to take over until Carrick returns (or Strootman in a future transfer window), then I suppose 24 million for a top European prospect might be a better risk than 10 million for this Lucas Silva fellow from the Brazilian league.
