William Carvalho

I have already wrote multiple times about him. He´s the best prospect to come from our Academy since Ronaldo. He´s an absolutely immense player for us. Sporting fans love him and he also gets respect from rival fans from Porto and Benfica (Arruda has also praised him). The engine of the team. Would be extremely gutted if he left. Would love to see him play in the Champions League for us. But so much transfer pressure in the last week. I bet Jorge Mendes is behind this.

There's a Portuguese guy (Porto fan) at work and he says the same thing, he's sure Carvalho will be one of the top DM's in the coming years, he'd be a terrific signing.

So Van Gaal is stealing everybody's engines. First Herrera from Athletic, now Di Maria and possibly Carvalho. Must admit, that's an impressive way to build a midfield.

Sell him to us, please. We will give you lots of money.

No. Next year, i´d have no problem. If he left i´d be as gutted as when Ronaldo left us. He´s a bit of a cult figure for Sporting fans because of his playing style, physical power and of course because it´s another one from the Academy moving up. One of the big reasons why we will be on Champions League draw tomorrow. Just wait till next year. It´s win/win for all. He has the chance to prove himself in the Champions League and will help us fight the "evil empire"/Porto in our league. Then he can leave :smirk:

I wouldn´t worry about that

 You have to laugh every time.

Forget the champions league, your club could get a much bigger pavilion out of this...

Kroos wasn't rejected. You really think he'd join us when Madrid came knocking?

Also Kroos was in the last year of his contract. Now stop with these ridiculous comparisons.
I think Kroos was our until LVG didn't want him, then Real Madrid came along.

Besides the price, comparisons between players attributes is not 'ridiculous'.

Credit to Mr Moyes, he identified this guy as one to watch and scouted him loads last year.

I'm sure we have a very good relationship with Mendes right now due to the Di Maria deal.

This makes so much more sense than Vidal

Cheaper, no knee issues, good connection with agent, in need of this type of player, young etc.

He wasn't ours. Real Madrid came knocking and who do you think he would have joined? He was Madrid bound before the World Cup.

Oh he was, believe me. It went from 7th to direct Champions League qualification with him on the team. Of course Leonardo Jardim (now Mónaco manager) also played a big part but Carvalho was crucial for us on the pitch. Brought defensive stability to the team (him and Rojo connected very well), gave us physical power for our midfield battles we usually lost with our "midget" midfielders (we rarely got outmuscled) and his passing was top notch. Also scored some goals (some good technical efforts, others because he has good aerial ability in the offensive set pieces). Don´t know how he will adapt to a more competitive enviroment such as the Premier League, but if he was as good as Matic here, don´t see why he can´t have the same impact Matic had on England.

We need to drop a striker to play 5 defenders.
It would essentially be 4-3-3 so 4 defenders.

In regards to the width, it indeed could be a problem but I think Di Maria would naturally drift out when the opportunity arose. That + the fact we've just bought one of the most promising LB's in the league and with Rafael fit and on form, both would offer a lot of width.

DDG
Rafael Jones(Smalling) Rojo(Evans) Shaw
Carvalho
Herrera Di Maria
Mata
Rooney RvP
With Januzaj/Kagawa/Welbeck fitting into any of the front three and the option to switch it to 4-4-2 with Herrera/Carvalho as CMs and have Di Maria/Januzaj on the wings.

feck it, bold statement time... I'd much rather have Carvalho than Vidal. The balance Carvalho would bring the team would be much more benefiting than the sheer quality that Vidal possesses.

Neville has a hard on for power. So I imagine this signing will excite him.

Seems like Di Maria's deal also proved to our main targets how much determined and powerful the club is financially. It's a serious statement from LVG and I think it's helping him to attract even more quality players.

Ok time for everyone to get their "If we get Carvalho, I'll..." in.

If we get Carvalho, I'll never complain about our overspending again*.

Who knows? What we've read in the papers suggests otherwise.

Those papers the same day said we had a deal completed for him. Then few hours later LVG rejects him. Which is the club line for he is going somewhere else.

We've always had good relations with Mendes from long back. That traffic and desportivo arrangement in Brazil and Bebe he played a part in all IIRC plus Anderson, Nani deals and he was Ronaldo's agent ofcourse.

Also, read somewhere that his daughter was interning at United last year.

Wouldn't be a genius move by the club to brief the press something that makes our manager look clueless.

In that team Di Maria could be given free license to get forward on the left with Herrera and Carvalho forming a midfield two and Rooney could drift into the wide right area.

Have to say that
-----------Carvalho-----------
Herrera---------------Di Maria------
--------------Mata--------------
looks like an ideally balanced midfield diamond provided Herrera can give some width on the right.

Ideally you'd want both him and Vidal, but if we end 'just' with him, I'll be more than happy to be fair.
Don't know about that.

--------Carvalho

------Vidal - Herrera

Mata------------------ADM

----------Rooney

Looks fantastic but this one does as well:

--------Carvalho

----Herrera - Di Maria

-----------Mata

---Rooney - RvP

I think we're set with Carvalho, would rather Blind to improve our squad depth or a CB after that.

He played on the right for Zaragoza.

An important detail on the Carvalho deal would actually be Rojo. I think they linked very well and "covered" their respective positions multiple times due to Jardim´s tactical approaches. They had a visible connection on the pitch.

If we go 4 at the back probably need a RB no ?
Jones is decent out there as cover, I think. No more Smalling please.

Interesting, cheers for info.

But wasn't this one of Moyes' targets which Van Gaal decided not to pursue?

Why the change in opinion?
Maybe the price. At the start of the summer they wouldn't let him go for anything less then his release clause at 37m, now we're at the end and they probably realized nobody will pay that much for him.

Would 30m be enough to get him? Doubt they'd go as low as 24m but who knows. We need a player like him more then anything right now. An anchor man type player, Herrera provides a lot of energy and is box to box so I think they'd compliment each other well.

Carvalho is a DM by nature but he also played as CB for Cercle Brugge. It´s wasted potencial but he can play as CB also.

It's okay we can give you Anderson as part of the 30m if we go for him :)

After watching Fernando playing very well for City, I can only imagine what that Carvalho would do for our midfield. Him, Herrera and Di Maria in a 4-3-3 and we wouldn't have to worry about defence as they wouldn't see the ball the whole game.

A really good compilation of him, for those who like these things and have time to watch.

Havent seen much of him but ive said all summer I think we are better off getting a player who will happily sit. Vidal is all action, we got Herrera for that now so he isnt as needed as he could have been.

Looks great until you put our current defenders behind them. Sayign that even, am I the only one who unless we stick with 3-5-2 which I doubt just doesnt see Mata fitting in, he obviously doesnt in that first formation whatsoever, if we do sign a quality central midfielder (and hopefully a centre back) I dont see how all of our current front three fit in the side, in fact its difficult to put two of the three in dependant on the formation. Your diamond seems to be the only way to be fair. Id love personally:

Carvalho
Herrera DiMaria

Cuadardro Januzaj

Rooney or RVP

DiMaria and Cuadardri would give you endless possibilities for 3-5-2 and 4-3-3, Still personally Id love a classy centre back along wioth midfielder but who is the question

Offer them £24m plus Anderson, United paying him 100% of his wages. Maybe he can salvage a career back in Portugal with Sporting.
