6ft 2", 15 stone..........At least we'll finally have a player that is not brushed off the ball by a gust of wind!

I've only seen him at the WC and I thought he was cack so, has anyone else seen him play in more games?!
Whats he really like?

This is a serious point, distribution of the ball is crucial in build up play. We are comparing with other top midfielders in the world, no? I thought our club contends with other top midfielders. Like I said, I had enough of buying promising talents-we need world class talent. Kroos and Scholes were much better at Carvalho at 22 (Kroos is 24 by the way)
Yes but its not he can't pass at all. His primary job is defending and helping out defenders not being a playmaker. We have Herrera and Mata to do that. We need some strength and protection in midfield and Carvalho can offer that.

Edit: Im being more realistic in this thread and a complete muppet in the Vidal thread. Dual personalty I guess. This transfer season has really got to me.

Toni Kroos is a world class player and Paul Scholes was one of the best players this club has ever had; if we're going to filter signings based on how they compare to those two we'll not have a squad.

But wasn't this one of Moyes' targets which Van Gaal decided not to pursue?

Why the change in opinion?

His price, Carrick's injury and Fletcher showing that he's incapable of playing a Prem standard of football any more. Vidal not really showing that he's recovered from his injury during pre season. Plenty of reasons.

Main one would probably be price though. 45m euros would be a hell of an outlay for someone who's 22 and only done well in Portugal. A third off that and it looks like a more reasonable proposition.

I wouldn´t worry about that

Not to mention Herrera is the player we got instead of Kroos and his range of passing is very good. Carvalho would be the DM we need so much and Kroos is incapable of playing that role effectively.

You are comparing a DM to one of the greatest all-round CM's of the past generation and one of the best of this generation. Surely you jest...

Why not? We still have Vidal that we could sign.

He's obviously not in the same class but as a type I think he's more suited to our needs than Vidal. We need a no. 6 more than a no. 8. Also seems like a good deal at the quoted price.

Carvalho behind Herrera and ADM in a three-man midfield looks quality and very well-balanced.

Sporting Lisbon always dish out any talent they have to us. This is on.

Wish he had changed his mind about Kroos as well.

We weren't getting him either way tbf after Real become interested. Had to be done pre World Cup for us to have a chance there and LVG seemingly was relucant at that stage.

And tbf Kroos isn't what we need from a positional standpoint either. Could have been alternative instead of Herrera, i guess with more passing and less defensive stuff.

Thought never even crossed my mind until now, certainly going to be an interesting next 5 days.

Just a pain we've got an actual football game getting in the way of things on Saturday!

I'm really looking forward to the end of the window for once. You just know that there's no way Van Gaal would put up with a season with that midfield.

Yet Carvalho costs more than Kroos, who we also rejected according to the media.

Kroos wasn't rejected. You really think he'd join us when Madrid came knocking?

Also Kroos was in the last year of his contract. Now stop with these ridiculous comparisons.

Yeah, but then again, Sporting were demanding 45m euros (his release clause) for him at the start of the summer.

Before we signed Herrera he was and he's a much, much better player who was also cheaper. If it's true that LVG blocked the transfer, that was an incredibly huge mistake by him.

Just hope we get a midfielder in before deadline day, hate all that last minute bollocks, seems needless to run things so tight.

What do you think of him?

I have already wrote multiple times about him. He´s the best prospect to come from our Academy since Ronaldo. He´s an absolutely immense player for us. Sporting fans love him and he also gets respect from rival fans from Porto and Benfica (Arruda has also praised him). The engine of the team. Would be extremely gutted if he left. Would love to see him play in the Champions League for us. But so much transfer pressure in the last week. I bet Jorge Mendes is behind this.

Kroos and Herrera in midfield has no balance at all.

Carvalho is a pure DM and that alone makes him a better fit for us than Vidal IMO.

Exactly, stick someone like Kroos alongside Herrera (behind Mata) and we'd have all sorts of problems. We have enough creativity, we just need drive in midfield and defensive solidarity.

I haven't seen enough of Carvalho to be able to accurately judge him but if he's the player he's made out to be then he'd be the exact type of individual we need to partner Herrera.

So he's back up to Vidal, despite being a very different player? He seems more like a Blind type player, but better.

Sell him to us, please. We will give you lots of money.

anything to this or just twitter bollocks?

I´d class this as twitter bollock Rams but the rumours are really persistent. I´ll worry when the portuguese media starts reporting something.

And he would have gotten away with it to if it weren't for those damn meddling kids

Mendes is definitely behind this, the guy has been doing deals for his players all summer long.

He's already got di Maria done and dusted. He'll probably end up getting moves for Falcao and Carvalho by the end of the window.

This is clear brief from United, tbf. What is the motive behind it don't know.
