I think his release clause is £37m rather than 37m euros. It's something like 45m euros I believe.

Still an awful lot better than Nigel De Jong. Players leaving Madrid means nothing in regards to their quality, the fact they are considering selling Di Maria says it all.
Or Robben or Sniejder etc

Lets be honest they will have to accept something in the low twenties for a player of that ability and stature right now. Otherwise be content to keep an unhappy player.

This is by far the most disappointing thing.

I had nice imagines of 4-3-3 with welbeck rooney and januzaj up top, tears teams apart :(

There will be plenty of opportunities for Adnan to replace Rooney or Mata in any formation this coming season. He's a young lad and thats the perfect scenario for him this coming season. Its his job to impress not our job to accommodate. This is Man United after all not Southampton. Similar to Isco and a thousand other young hopefuls in regard to whats expected of him if he wants to succeed at a top club. I expect him to thrive under LVG.

Interesting to see what Van Gaal has in store for a DM, given the system he wants to play, i thought Carvalho would have been ideal and would allow Herrera to do his work with out stifling him but also be a contributor as well and not single role player like De Jong.

Sporting doesn't own 100% the player, I think they have 40% or 60% so if they have 60% of 20 they will get 12 million. I think Sporting is trying to get him to sign another contract.

You don´t know what you´re talking about.

You don´t know what you´re talking about.

Sly you seriously think a 30+ million GBP is justified for him right now. I'm one of his biggest fans but at least with Shaw your talking about a PL proven player at the age of 19. An English player of real quality and potential which has other benefits like a perceived increase in loyalty over a European import. He wasn't in the Portuguese national lineup too often which I know is more a slight on the manager but with many factors considered I just cannot see the figures you are wanting being met right now. Fabregas was 27m? And more players have transferred hands for similar amounts of better current ability than Carvalho. Matic to Chelsea...etc etc. Think you are being unrealistic ala Draxler's valuation yet to be met......

He was probably a Moyes target. Van Gaal said that he sanctioned the deals for Herrera and Shaw because he liked them and knew we were lacking in those areas. Carvalho might have been one of the targets he did not sanction.

The basis of his value is that he's had one good season in Portugal and is young. That's not enough of a basis for a £37m value. He looks a really good player, but it wouldn't make sense to splurge that on him right now - I don't believe we're that desperate.

Another year in Portugal would be good for him. If he's smart, that release clause will still be there in a year, if he is the player we go for when we need to be challenging in Europe too.

My response was an answer to your post. I didn´t talk about value or said that he´s worth 45 million euros. The board has been pretty explicit about a possible Carvalho deal. Pay the clause or a value close to it. Period. You were speculating that our board would accept a bid in the region of the low twenties.

That can´t happen for many reasons. First we only have 60% of his rights; second he is tied to a long term contract and third we already have our budget covered and in no need to sell.

That´s why i said you didn´t knew what you were talking about. The final speculation about Carvalho possibly being unhappy if he has to stay, is also false. He said that plenty of times he doesn´t mind staying another year. He will play in the champions league and that´s a dream of his.

Portuguese paper "Record" as said that he as been put up for sale.

That´s false. Carvalho isn´t for sale. Care to provide a link? Record is as credible as the Daily Mail. If it isn´t on the "O Jogo" website, don´t bother.

Completely agree with your post mate. I don´t think he will leave us this year. Almost certain he will next year though.

Get the feeling we're just not interested at the price being quoted (same with arsenal and any other team being linked with him).

If its septermber the 1st and we haven't signed a midfielder i hope we go for him.
Overpriced but will probably be cheaper in the long run than dropping 30m on the likes of fellaini.

i would be pretty pissed if we werent in for him for the price quoted. If we buy Vidal or another quality midfielder, no problem. He would be the ideal Carrick replacement, even though they are a bit different in their playing style.

I feel that is accurate and our interest has diminished since we hired Louis Van Gaal. He would be a great buy for Arsenal and will be as successful as Matic if he comes to the premier league. I just hope whoever we buy in this number 6 role will be as good or better than him.
Matic would have been the perfect partner for Herrera, a pity we did not buy him when we had the chance.

Meh, I'm not a fan. Rationally I know he'd have been a good buy, but he's just so boring to watch. Rarely have I seen a footballer play with less personality. I'd much rather bring in someone a bit more sketchy defensively but more entertaining to watch.

Matic ain't all that - athletic and disciplined but not much of a footballer.

They only just shifted him off to Paris though!

At first I thought Carvalho might be LvG's backup plan to Vidal, but since we've moved to 3-5-2 I don't think he's interested at all. Even if LvG switches to 4-3-3 in the future, I get the impression he'd prefer a player like Strootman over a player like Carvalho.

You just know he's going to go on to be a very good player at Arsenal though :(
