William Carvalho

£30m is the standard price for talented players these days and has been so for quite a while.

I can agree with 30M, however I still maintain that I have seen nothing from Carvalho that is indicative of him being a 37M player.
To me 37M is Modric, Fabregas and Kroos type money.

Why didn't he start the games against Germany and USA in the world cup? Is he normally a starter for Portugal?

I think Bento is a massively shit coach. Might have something to do with it.

I have seen feck all of Carvalho to be frank. Thought his 2nd half performance against the US was excellent except one moment where someone turned him and just burned him for pace. Looked slow and immobile in that moment. Against Ghana he was pretty gash. That and Youtube is the sum of my exposure. I just have to trust those that say he's top class. I even saw an article the other day talking about why "Carvalho was going to dominate Europe for years to come". Crikey I thought. Hard to know how much is just hype used to inflate the fee.

I really wouldn't mind De Jong as a stop gap. He's a lot better than most people care to admit.

These astronomical figures make you wonder...are we just a part of special episode of Pawn Stars?

we should be able get him for 30m though. I thought Sporting need the money and no other club would buy him for 37m. Didnt the Sporting director say they have talents to step up if they sell him? That is like saying come and make us a decent offer and he is yours.

If we want him we won't let £37m get in our way. We proved that with Mata, Herrera and Shaw. For all 3 players we paid what clubs have asked from us. I'm not 100% convinced in Carvalho but if van Gaal is convinced that's good enough for me.

Journalists love a comparison or finding the "next" messi or the "new" ronaldo

I'd hate to think they were making a lazy comparison to Yaya Toure due to his physical appearance.

This transfer is just not a muppet's dream like others which are ongoing(?) this summer...which is resulting in this potential signing not being very exciting.

I'm always put off a player when you have a club constantly talking about selling the player, and quoting prices. Its completely irrational I know, but it just puts a doubt in the back of my mind.

I think Carvalho is our back-up target if we don't get Vidal (which isn't likely really). Thirty seven million is ridiculous though.
I don't want to shit on your Xmas dinner but I don't see us being in for Vidal. I think we signed Carvalho months ago like Shaw etc

Which club is it? Sporting? Our President has only said one thing: "Carvalho is not for sale. If any club wants him, it has to pay the clause". If there is a source leaking info to the press i´d bet it´s Jorge Mendes.

My mate who's a big Sporting fan is adamant they won't sell him for less than the release clause. He's also been raving about him all season and says he's the biggest talent thats come through since Ronny. Big praise that.

Explains the relative lack of interest this rumour is getting from journalists. A lot of signs are pointing to our interest, more so than with Vidal, but because it's a much less exciting transfer we're hearing a lot more about Vidal.

Wouldn't surprise me if this one starts moving quickly out of nowhere, just like the Herrera deal did. LVG moved for a previous Moyes target with Herrera, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him do it again.

Just frustrating that from a muppets point of view that the only transfer Moyes had done the groundwork on, that LVG hasn't pursued, is Kroos! Perhaps this is because Madrid came in and it became clear we didn't stand a chance.

£20m and Anderson+Nani+Bebe

Easy peasy.

Was gonna suggest throwing Young and Tony V into the deal too but realised that when they reached the border, none of them would be able to cross!!

I've read someone else say that recently. I think it might have been that Portugese journalist whose twitter posts get posted on the thread here. He does seem to be very highly rated by Sporting fans.

Do you think he'll stand his ground, Sly? Or if a Club offered say £30 million, do you think that'd be enough for Sporting to accept?

If Sporting had the old president he'd have probably been sold for €20m or something stupid but now under Bruno de Carvalho I do think it's release clause price or nothing. There's no rush to raise funds for anything and he's on a long contract.

Would hate to see him leave Sporting normally as they're my local team back home but being as it's to United it's all good :D. Hope we do sign him regardless of price and I think we will if our interest is real, cracking player.

I already gave my opinion on this matter. I don´t think he will move. Our President is a very hard negotiator (as seen in the deals with Liverpool and Galatasaray for Ilori and Bruma), if he says that he will only leave for the clause, any deal will have to be close to these values. It´s very hard to call what´s going to happen but we already have the money for our yearly budget with the Champions League money, installments from transfer deals and tv money. We are in a good negotiating position.

On the other hand, we already bought two highly rated players for the midfield (Bulgarian Lampard Slavchev and Oriol Rosell). In the past it was easy to know what going on since our previous board has many "leaks" during the deals. With Bruno de Carvalho, it´s like a bunker and no one knows anything till the deals are done (as seen with Ryan Gould and Tanaka).

I think they will accept eventually. They have got an insane amount of debt!

We finished our financial reestruturation last year and we are under no pressure to sell, specially with the Champions League participation. Every club has debt and ours is manageable like United´s debt (with the obvious dimension implications)

Then perhaps I read your debt amount wrongly, as I read it was ~400 million euros, which is insane for a club of any size.

He certainly fits the bill in terms of what is required positionally. He strikes me as a United type signing in terms of his age allowing room for even more improvement.

This is interesting. Are those players more ones for the future or ready to step right into the first team?

We do have that debt but things aren´t as linear and the situation is under control. Benfica´s debt is even worse. There has been a strict financial control after the reestructuration with this President and he has been very sincere about our financial condition. That´s why we have 1/3 of Benfica and Porto´s budget. If we do have to sell our President would have no problem in admiting this like he did last year. He has been adamant about the conditions for a possible Carvalho deal and i believe the value will be close to the clause (he already reject a Chelsea offer of 13 million £ plus a player). That´s why i don´t think he will move this year. I may be wrong but i think he will do the Champions League campaign.

Before we all get too upset about the price, would the buyout not be 37m € ?

That's about £29m which is not far off the 20-25 most are saying is reasonable

I think so IF Carvalho moves. Rosell plays in Carvalho´s position. Slavchev can do DM but he is better as CM, hence the nickname "Bulgarian Lampard"

45 million euros.
