I hope to see more of this if he comes to United. Only giggs seems capable of making such passes this season from our midfield from what I can remember.
Carrick is technically capable. Done it a few times. His head just isn't very brave.

Is this deal dead in the water with Moyes leaving then? The media seem to know who we are after and I don't think I've seen Carvalho named once.

To tell you the truth, i´m now very skeptical regarding this possible deal, since i have the suspicion that this was a Moyes oriented deal. I think that next home game (if it has again the presence of an United scout) will gives more info about this matter.

I seriously hope we sign him up. Every time I've ended up watching him (admittedly only about 4 times) he impresses me  Our midfield cry for a player like him.

will confess..this is from watching what there is on youtube. He tackles and passes so very well. tbh it is not fair to say the 'new' this or that....but he looks the business.
I too have seen him only on youtube. And he doesn't look like a leader who shows ruthless determination to win, which was Keane's biggest attribute IMO. He seems a bit lethargic, kind of looks like he lacks urgency. And Keane was anything but that. But I agree he looks good while tackling.
Going through this thread, many knowledgeable posters have said that he indeed is very good. So I would take their word. But I don't think I read anything which suggested that he is like Keane.

I don't know what stat site you're looking but I personally remember these kind of balls. Whether the attacker managed to utilize the pass is another story.

He's looking at the magical stat site in his head, the one which gives him loads of info about how shit the players he doesn't like are.

But not massively like Toure either. Toure's not actually much of a tackler, more of a creative anchorman when he plays the deeper role. Carvalho is a proper DM (albeit in the classy, technically gifted, passing mould).

I'm not sure about this guy yet since I haven't watch him. Judging from what I read and see on YouTube. He looks like Patrick Viera. And if we trust Evans, Smalling, Jones and Keane then we might don't have to sign another centre back because I think William might can play as a a centre back too if suddenly our centre back are injured and not available. He might can be a very good additional and also very useful.

I'm always looking for the 'new Keane'...so indulge me... :)

We have never looked as dominant in midfield after he left.
Actually me too! I have been clamouring for signing a Keane like midfielder who would drive us when the chips are down or when we are out to destroy opponents or face opponents who would dominate us. We desperately need a leader in midfield.

First off I would like to say hi to everyone I recently got promoted :)

Recent reports In Portugal suggest that Chelsea are willing to offer Marko Marin in a player plus cash deal for William other reports also suggest that Inter Milan are very interested in William...on the inter rumor i don't think they have a chance of getting William he Will almost certainly go to the EPL but the Chelsea one is a different story I don't think Marko Marin is a player that interests Sporting I think William would be a good fit to United and I don't feel Chelsea need him but if Chelsea were to offer a more attractive player or players then it can be something that might interest Sporting a player like Thorgan Hazard would be a good option or even Patrick Van Anholt but I'm not sure if Chelsea would negotiate a deal like that ....nonetheless the cash + Marko Marin and inter Milan interest is the latest news in the Portuguese media

I think we might offer you Nani as part of the deal. I'm sure he'd tear it up in Portugal.

No way can they afford his wages surely?
Ah yeah, maybe not. We could offer to subsidise his wages as part of the deal for a portion of his contract perhaps. That said with CL money surely Sporting could afford Nani....I dunno.

@SportingCP96 Firstly welcome, I'm sure we had a few discussions in the newbie section regarding William.

Secondly this news depresses me. Having done some research on the lad and watching some recent performances he is exactly the kind of midfielder we have been lacking over the years. My worry is that we seem to have a recent record of identifying targets and then taking an age getting them signed whereas Chelsea in recent years say "that's who we want" a day later they have signed their man. I hope that after all the talk a few weeks ago about a deal being already done for this lad is true and that he will be a Man Utd player next year.

He's unlikely to be on less than 100k a week. No chance they can afford him.

Yeah guess not. He's apparently on 90k a week. Sly was saying they like the look of Bebe so we could give them him.

As much as I and every other fan would love for nani to comeback it is a deal we simply can not afford and despite nani liking sporting I don't think he wants to return to Portugal so early in his career

Bebe would be an interesting option but if Chelsea were to offer Thorgan Hazard for example I think Sporting would be very interested yet again this is only speculation

As I said this is only transfer speculation and despite me myself being interested in a deal that would involve some good players I feel as tho Chelsea have all they need regarding that position and if it is true that United have scouted William some nearly 20 times then I'm certain they will do everything possible to sign William as I think he is one of their top 3 transfer targets and keep in mind Sporting and United have a good relationship so that could play in Uniteds Favour

I already explained that there is no way we are getting Nani in part player exchange. He already stated that he doesn´t want to come back to Portugal at this phase of his career and we have a 1.2 million per year wage limit in our squad. Mourinho can keep Marko Marin, we already have our fair share of inconsistent midget wingers.

Now if they were too offer a more attracting player/ players it could be an interesting option players like Thorgan and Van Anholt would be good acquisitions

They already have Matic, they'll be looking for a more creative CM. Only club I'd be worried about is Arsenal and Arsene tends to not spend this much money on a young player.

Arsenal? He would fit like a glove in that team but i doubt he would move there. I can´t see Wenger paying this kind of ammount for Carvalho and i doubt he follows the portuguese inflated market. Wenger prefers other european markets.

Apparently Mourinho's willing to let Ramires go so if that's the case then it seems plausible that they're in for Carvalho. Matic and Carvalho would provide one hell of a solid base.

They could play him and Matic with Oscar in front of them, something like 4-2-3-1.
