Its the truth. You think they want to lose their influence completely? They are men not Gods

Saying "Its the truth" doesn't make it the truth any more than me saying I'm a billionaire makes that the truth. The best you can say is that you have absolutely no idea and you're guessing. At worse its just some nasty stuff you made up.

If you don't want Moyes then focus on his poor record as our manager. Don't make up totally spurious claims about Fergie and Charlton simply to try and find a way to undermine Moyes even further.

It's the first time I saw him in full game. He’s definitely not slow, it’s more about his role on the pitch. He’s not fast either, but certainly more mobile than Carrick. He looked good in DM role, but he is nothing more at the moment. I would say he would be useless if we don’t get him another (mobile) midfielder. I don’t want to get in other elements of his game as it was obviously one game.

Terrible game to watch tbh, no rhythm from both teams.

It was the typical end of season game. Players are tired, others are thinking about the holidays and some about the World Cup. Carvalho did the same type of performance from last week. Defensively very good, missing some passes and trying to help at front. I think the never ending talk and rumours of big club interest on him is taking it´s toll on the player. That and the fact that the World Cup is near and he is trying to avoid injuries. Our objective is complete with the Champions League direct qualification and the next games are just calendar obligations. He was definitely player of the year for me and along with our Manager the biggest influence in securing the Champions League objective. Would love to see him prove himself in Europe (like Nani did) before moving but i doubt he will stay if he has a good World Cup.

If we are serious about him (and I presume we are) we should have this basically done and ready to be completed once the window signs. Can't afford for him to look the business in the World Cup and snatched away.

Its a guess and im probably right. How does a man without a record of winning land the biggest job in football? Scottish, tick, Glaswegian, tick, served one team for more than ten years, tick, everything else follows. Never mind that he doesn't have a winning record.

Think you make a valid point but that video.... I see nothing special in that video lol.

There may not be anything special, but in the video Fellaini is showing the kind of aggressiveness, willingness to win the ball back and physical presence we all thought we'd see from him at United, and hope to see from Carvalho, if of course we do sign him.

That said, I still feel Fellaini can grow into that holding role for us. He hasn't exactly had a great season at United, (who has?) however, he is still our highest tackling midfielder, and maybe with the right player next to him we could see better performances.

Hopefully under his new manager and coaching team, Fellaini can really start to blossom.

Is it likely this guy will be in Portugal squad for world cup? Presuming first team might be a long shot?

He'll be there or thereabouts. It's a toss up between him and Veloso for a starting spot. I think most Portugal fans would be happy to see Big Will start but Bento has always liked Veloso, and to be fair he's done a consistent job for the NT. He'll definitely make appearances, that's for sure.

Agree with that.

I think physical presence is useful in midfield - providing the player is also neat and tidy and isn't holding the side back going forward. Can give a solid platform for the players in front to work off.

This. I reckon you are not portuguese but you are correct in your assessment. Carvalho has had a much better season at Sporting compared to Veloso´s season at Dinamo Kiev but our national team involves other players and circunstancies. You are right about the quality of Veloso´s performance in our Nt and William just played one match against Sweden (very well by the way) in the play offs but other factors will also weigh in the choice. For instance i think William will probably start against Germany. Tactically speaking it makes much more sense to play Carvalho instead of Veloso. We will adopt a defensive stance against Germany and will need strong defensive players with physical capability to match Germany´s physical power and set pieces capabilities. If he does well against Germany, i can see Carvalho cementing his place in our national team.

Don´t get me wrong, i actually like Veloso (also a product from our academy, after being rejected by Benfica) as a player and he has performed very well in our National team but Carvalho is in whole different level in terms of ability and potencial. If Carvalho evolves well he will be the owner of the DM position in our National team for many years.

Correct! I have a friend who is half Portuguese and he follows the NT, so he usually fills me in on their current status. I'm by no means an expert though!

Nice post mate.

Carvalho also started against Cameroon, so not just the Sweden game. If he starts next warm up games, perhaps a good chance he will start in Brazil.

Yes he did. But i was talking about official matches not friendlies (in the Veloso vs Carvalho comparison). While you may have a point with the last part of your post, i think the tactical approach of the Germany match will matter the most (i think Carvalho, with his caractheristics, has an advantage in that aspect).

Er, I've just had a text from a mate saying he's apparently off to Monaco (I guess the Mendes link)? I assume it's bollocks and he's just winding me up?

My guess is that he´s winding you up. Nothing on the portuguese media. What was reported today was Mónaco´s interest on Garay, nothing else.

Maybe he's getting confused with that then, although since they play for entirely different clubs I'm guessing he's just being a dick. Cheers, Sly :)

Are we getting a new manager and coaching team or is Fellaini joining a new club? I'm happy either way.

I was being sarcastic.

He's under the same manager and coaching team as he was at Everton.

Moyes possibly getting sacked could be good news for us. Can see this possible deal off United´s priorities since it was supposed to be a Moyes wish. Would love to have Carvalho one more year and specially proving himself in the Champions League after the World Cup.

Yep. I'm really not that convinced he's what we need anyway. He's big and strong. Other than that he's nothing special from what I've seen.

You haven´t seen enough apparently. He´s much more than just big and strong. You don´t win player of the month 4 times and possibly player of the year (succeding Matic) by being just big and strong.

He looks like a big Jon Obi Mikel (playing in a weaker league) to me.
I'd rather two proper ball-players in midfield, myself.

Didn't realise you weren't a United fan either, sorry.

First he is nothing like Obi Mikel and he can deal with the ball properly (passing and control wise). He has a Patrick Vieira style of play. Plenty of good players have come from weaker leagues. One of the biggest players from your own club history comes from our academy and our weaker league. His name was Ronaldo.

No problem. You obviously don´t have to know each members club. In my case the clue is in the location (Lisbon-my city and Alvalade XXI (the complex where our Stadium is located)

Don't you think another club will come in for Carvalho this summer if United don't though @Sly? I rate him from what little I've seen and would still like to see us sign him this summer. Obviously this depends on the manager that succeeds Moyes and what their plans are, but I would have thought a quality young DM would be an asset regardless

My point wasn't that no good players can come from 'weaker' leagues, but that he's quite a limited ball-player (not poor on the ball, but not outstanding), but is playing in a slower paced-and weaker league so has a bit more time etc.

I'd compare him more to Mikel than Vieira myself - Takes up similar positions, uses the ball similarly, and I don't see the Vieira like control or passing either (definitely not the vision or creativity with his passing.)
But then again he's only young, and you've seen more of him, so fair enough.

Honestly i can only see him leaving us for almost the full ammount of his release clause (since we only have 60% of his rights), so that leaves English clubs, Real Madrid (have been scouting him but it´s a more an unlikely link) and possibly Mónaco (because of the relationship between Jorge Mendes and the russian owner) as possible destinations. I think Moyes was really interested in him, having sent scouts to watch him about 17 times. If he is sacked and a new manager comes, it will be with his own ideas and shortlist of potencial players. Can´t see a manager like for example Van Gaal, going for him (more likely to go for the dutch market).

We aren´t possibly speaking about the same player. He isn´t a limited ball player at all. Like i said he is very good on the ball, with decent technic, good control and passing. All the scouting reports from pundits and sports journalist emphasize that.

You can have your own opinion but the Vieira comparisons are almost unanimous amongst our pundits (specially Boa Morte who played with and against Vieira) in his english football career. It is likely that he knows what he´s talking about.

We can agree that he is young and will evolve even more. And yes that comes from someone who has watched all his Sporting and National team games this year (home games at the stadium).

He just destroyed two people at once. He literally is a man-mountain. He would suit the Premier league perfectly in my opinion; his physicality is such a weapon.

EDIT: make that 3. The opposition took out one of his own players too!

Is he more suited to a holding role or as a box-to-box?

Holding midfield role, but Sly says he is capable of playing box to box aswell. It will basically be an epic battle between Carrick and Carvalho in that holding midfield spot if we get the latter.

He does not have the attacking prowess to be more suited to play in the box to box role, compared to his defensive efficiency.

Reminds me of this.

Almost nothing better than a tackle as hard as that.

I think he'd be very good for us. I did read somewhere that the deal was in place but there was an exit clause should a new manager decide he doesn't want him.
