Will the new manager want him do we reckon? I think this deal is at a stage where it's basically a done deal. I hope it won't be cancelled but i doubt it will be.
He could fit well in Van Gaal's system as one of the holding midfielder.

Reminds me of this.

Almost nothing better than a tackle as hard as that.

I think he'd be very good for us. I did read somewhere that the deal was in place but there was an exit clause should a new manager decide he doesn't want him.

That tackle was massive, one I remember well in fact.

The bolded bit is very odd though, and I always wonder if this is just media bullshit.

He just destroyed two people at once. He literally is a man-mountain. He would suit the Premier league perfectly in my opinion; his physicality is such a weapon.

EDIT: make that 3. The opposition took out one of his own players too!
Human bowling ball.

You haven´t seen enough apparently. He´s much more than just big and strong. You don´t win player of the month 4 times and possibly player of the year (succeding Matic) by being just big and strong.
How do you rate him against Matic? I think Matic has been great so far for Chelsea so if he is at a similar level then Carvalho would be great.

I've only watched a few youtube videos but I really like his physicalness and something I've wanted added for a couple years now. Too often I find we are overrun in the midfield and just dominated physically. A few hits from Carvalho will put opposition players in check. I think of last year being dominated by Fellaini and Dembele purely because they were too strong.

Is he more suited to a holding role or as a box-to-box?

Heh forgot to put that gif. Amazing tackle.

He has been playing as Dm at Sporting and in our National team. However, he has played as box to box in Sporting and our National team youth ranks. He has also played as center back at Cercle Brugge. He can play in multiple positions as Phil Jones, minus full back position. As i have already said Carvalho plays for a very tactically strict manager and has a defined defensive role. Even so he has played as box to box in several matches, specially in the second halfs, when we are chasing a result and in a dynamic midfield of two with Adrien. Near the end of the season, our manager Leonardo Jardim has given him more tactical freedom for his forward runs, resulting in some good goals for a DM.

Interesting, if Van Gaal is to be our new manager he may well value Carvalho.

Both very good players. Matic is at a higher level atm, since he is at Chelsea and is more experienced (both club and national team wise). Before Matic moved to Chelsea, Carvalho was actually playing better than him (Matic was amazing last year but started this campaign in a slower pace). Carvalho will probably replace Matic as player of the year in Portugal (Matic won last year). Matic has more weapons offensively and Carvalho better in the defensive end.

With that analysis you put up in his thread, I can really see him playing either that holding role or box-to-box. That versatility in itself is a valuable thing to have.

Will be interesting to see him play at a higher level and specially in a team with more quality. Our manager Leonardo Jardim did a great job with Carvalho, if Ferguson was still around to mentor the next stage we would have a valuable player for our national team for the next decade!

The carnage of that tackle and the ref just points to the ball. I love it.

Pass on him. Van Gaal will want to work with Fellaini and bring out his potential rather than looking to spend 35 million on a player he might not even have heard of or fancy.

Excited.

Has Van Gaal ever used similar players to Carvalho in previous sides? Basically would a player like Carvalho be suited to Van Gaals preferred system?

Gustavo was a bit of a destroyer type player. I'm sure Van Gaal would love this lad.

He turned Schwienstieger from a winger into this kind of player. Amazing really.

He also made Alaba the LB that he is now. Played through all his youth levels as an DM and hated the LB position. You can say about him what you want but he could even transform Cleverley in a great box to box player probably.

Our manager Leonardo Jardim (who is known by his meticulous work with the playes) already did a great job instilling tactical discipline, improving his concentration levels with alot of mental work and making him a more aggressive player which was something he lacked. What he needs now is proper guidance and mentoring when dealing with more pressure in a more competitive enviroment and specially giving him enough playing time in his transition to a more demanding bigger club, so he can keep evolving at this impressive rate.

I am fairly sure we will look to complete this deal and Shaw regardless of when/who comes in as manager. We have a team of scouts that have been assessing them all season and after last summer, Woody and co will be looking to close deals effectively.

Who do you play alongside this kid should we sign him? Isn't he a more defensive minded midfielder?

I wouldn't really consider him a defensive minded midfielder, he's just very good at making tackles and that often gets highlighted in youtube videos. He is a very good passer of the ball and always has an eye for a long pass to feet. He is much more of a box to box midfielder and he does seem to possess that burst in pace that could let him run at defenders, but Sporting seem to play him in a different system from that.

Easy, Kroos.

I really don't see him coming to us.

I will be honest, I haven't seen him play other than a few clips on YouTube on him tackling and also playing some brilliant hollywood passes.

Kevin's love for the big man's back.

If that happens, I'll eat a shoe.
I've said that line so many times lately.

Alaba had much more potential than Cleverley ever had. A lot of people knew Alaba was a wonder kid.

An athletic tank with some football brain and precision. Rare thing these days.

How old is he ? Probably not even 23 yet... Scouting him was probably a pleasure. Hopefully the news are true about earlier conversations about his transfer.

If Wooden Ed wants to look more and more like a man of action then it's perfect occasion !
