William Carvalho

That would be ideal so we can snap up a talented youngster in Carvalho and get what we need.

Unfortunately, the other midfielder will likely be another Fabregas situation. I also doubt Moyes has any clue what we need, seeing as he passed on both Thiago and Herrera but then bought Fellaini and allegedly went after more defensive midfielders in De Rossi and Khedira.

In the case of Herrera, I think it had more to do with the fact that he didn't want to pay the release clause of just above £30 Million. I would have rather paid £35 Million for Herrera than £27 Million for Fellaini though.

,seeing as he passed on both Thiago and Herrera

Any evidence for this? Moyes has repeatedly stated his desire for an attacking CM who can score/create goals. Thiago was only going to sign for Pep, and the Herrera deal was botched by the club due to misunderstanding Spanish tax law. We need both a defensive and an offensive CM anyway. Carvalho would fulfill the defensive CM role perfectly and he is an excellent passer from the base of midfield.

Ok that article has got me excited by the way he's described it. The player I have enjoyed one of the most for the past 5 years or so, even though he was considered a huge flop here and a waste of money, is Anderson because of the way he drove forward through the middle so often, something none of our CMs do. This kid sounds like he does that plus more, and I for one look forward to see this actually happen now.

£35m for Carvalho? I hope he is better than he looks to me. But saying that I've only seen a handful of his games.

From the sounds of things this deal is just a matter of time away. I'm not particularly excited as I've never watched him though, hopefully if we do sign him he can live up to a big price tag.

-------------DDG
Rafael--Jones--Smalling--Shaw
-------???----Carvalho
Januzaj----Mata-------Kagawa
----------Rooney

That would be exciting to watch develop

Looks like an absolute bulldozer to me. If he can play, get him in ASAP.

I think he'd be a tremendous buy though the price is outrageous, but as I said in the Luke Shaw thread, we'll be paying top prices and wages for whoever we bring in now.

By all accounts this guy will be a monster. He had been consistently rated higher than Matic int he portugese league before Matic went back to Chelsea.

I also want us to go after a RB. Im not convinced by Rafael and to be honest I dont think I ever was. Coleman would be a great get.

So that's one CM.

Kroos next.
Then Shaw.
Then a CB.
Then Reus.

/Mission complete.

EDIT:

Then Klopp.

/Mission complete.

Haven't seen enough of him to really comment, I just hope he's good enough on the ball and not a pure destroyer. The accounts I've seen suggest he is a pretty handy player though so I'm optimistic. Big price tag but that's what you have to spend these days to compete, we really need to sign a few players at that level.

I really hope we get another more creative CM as well though. That's the type we need more than a DM. I really don't like this idea of playing with two DMs either, sounds like a very static system to me.

You weren't convinced by Rafael last year? He had a great year all around, kept Ronaldo quiet mostly in the champions league, was amongst our top 3 players for that season, fergie labelled him as potentially the best in the world. He's only 23 years old too. One season where he's been pretty decent compared to most of the squad, but worse then last season because the whole teams been shite, and suddenly so many people think he's not good enough.

U wot m8?

Thought it was universally agreed that he was a superb right back. He's been very questionable this season but the two seasons before this he's been excellent.

Is it me, or do teams add on an extra 10-15M when they find out we are pursuing their players?
They always have done.

Will happen more this year because they know we are desperate and appear willing to spend the money (remains to be seen). We are paying premium for not investing right years ago, every player we buy this year will be 5-10m more expensive than their real worth. Hopefully the glazers will remember that when it comes to finding 'value' in the market in future

Well he takes the ball off defenders regularly, but the pressure is rarely intense though. He's always available though, and starts attacks.
Agreed. No doubt he'd face a step up in the pace of the game. I haven't seen any of his full matches (looking for a way), but from the highlights he does seem to have a knack for making a short, quick pass to another midfielder to get the move started. He seems to often do it without having to search out the option; that's good presence of mind for a young player. It doesn't look like much, but it's a skill that can really add to a team.

Good to hear he presents well for the ball. How's he with the ball when pressured?

So with this guy’s signing seeming to be confirmed by a bunch of random papers now. It is starting to feel like it could be a done deal. Any idea when/if we are going to hear something from United about it?

Rafael is a very good RB. The problem is who plays when he doesn't.

We definitely need a back up for Rafael, a good one as well not another buttner.

I hope we don't go anywhere near Coleman personally.

Wouldn't hear a thing from United until the transfer window opens I would imagine. We all want quick and speedy confirmation about things but this will draw out for a while.

I´d be cautious about these reports. Not a single mention in portuguese media. Don´t really know TalkSport´s sources

Why would we need to wait until then? We have announced things prior in the past haven't we once the contracts have been signed

Theres been loads of players Kagawa, RVN, Stam, Hernandez, which we have announced we have signed in april-may-june subject to medical, but we have to wait until the window opens to complete it.

I know it's an extremely lazy comparison, but I simply cannot watch the lad in action without thinking of Yaya Touré circa. 2006-08 with Barcelona.

Huge potential.

Yeh that is what I thought.

Really? I thought there was no window when RVN and Stam were signed?

Id love to hear Arruda's opinion on him at this stage of the season as opposed to 12months ago.

Ive made an effort to watch him over the last 6 months and the one thing that strikes me the most is how much he's improved in that period. He seems a much more rounded player at the moment. Maybe its just confidence or just more experience. If the current vein of improvement was continued at United we could be looking a seriously impressive player...

I know of a site where you can watch full matches. I've only watched United on there so not sure of the quality of these Portuguese games but if anyone want the link let me know.

Fellaini was bought to do this job. And he will. Do not want. Please fall through...

He has impresses me the few times I have seen him, and he seems to be progressing at a ridiculous pace. If we have gotten this deal done, then good for us.

Send me the link.

His injury proneness and penchant for getting booked/sent off always made me wary. I also think Fabio not being around has affected him
Interesting you mention this actually, I was thinking about it the other day. Rafael's been one of our most disappointing players this season for me, and it certainly could be because his brother isn't around.

I can't see how you didn't rate him previously though. The reason he's been one of my biggest disappointment is because he'd become completely dependable and solid in defence, and a real threat in attack these last few seasons. One of my favourite players, and so much desire too.

Anyway, back on the topic of Carvalho, a few of my mates were giving me stick about United spending £30+ plus on some 'nobody they've never heard of'. Think we can expect a lot of this from rival fans, but having caught him in a couple of games this season, and from other posters' accounts of him (Sly, Arruda, Rozay), I think he can come in and be an effective player, making an immediate impact on our midfield. And his potential could turn him into one of the best young midfielders in the world.

Now that you mention it those two might have been before the advent of the transfer window you're probably right, i mentioned those two because i remember us making the deals public around april. But im sure theres still a load of examples of United announcing deals in place for players before the window actually opening.
