Have you seen him enough? If yes, what are your views on him?

Yeah i´ve seen him some times. He´s been in impressive form with Paços and if they escape relegation they can thank him. I think Bebe has potencial to play in a top club in Portugal. He´s better than most of the current choices Sporting and Porto have. Benfica is different, they have alot of quality wingers (Gaitan, Markovic, Salvio, Sulejmani).

I think that if Bebe had an Academy background where they teach the fundamentals and follow the evolution of players carefully, he would be a pretty good player right now. Bebe has very interesting caractheristics. He´s physically very strong, with reasonable technic and very good shooting ability. What he lacks is the fundamentals that you learn on the academy. For example, his crossing was obviously poor at United. He has been working on that under the guidance of experienced coaches first at Rio Ave/Paços de Ferreira and he has been improving.

There´s also the issue of the mentality. One of the problems with Bebe´s first stint at United, was that he wasn´t really followed and supported. Since he doesn´t have the same potencial and ability as Ronaldo, he didn´t have the same attention Ronaldo had, that helped him to evolve. When i was at the newbies, i translated a Bebe interview where he expressed regret about the way he behaved at Manchester. He wasn´t as professional as he should be and gave Giggs and Scholes as examples he should have followed. I think that he has matured and has improved his work ethic and professional approach to football. The results of that are very encouraging.

I dunno if he has what it takes to be an United player (it´s the pinnacle of a players career) but i think he has the ability to play in a top club of the second tier of european football. If he proves himself on that stage, i think that United should give him another chance (don´t know his contract situation).

Thanks mate.

Sounds like he might have a long-term career in football after all. That is good news. I don't think Moyes, next season, has the luxury to try out a player who might be good. We need sure bets. I'd be happy if we can get decent amount on selling him. Which looks feasible.

Good info @Sly, thanks for that

Definitely some encouraging signs from Bebe this year, not necessarily promising enough to be a United player, but promising enough whereby he can develop into a solid player

So you think his level is second tier European football? So he is not quite United quality, but maybe in a few years under Moyes United will be at Bebe's level

Good goal by William Carvalho. That´s what im talking about when i say that i would love to see him play with more tactical freedom. Great finishing and composure

Bebe really testing us. Rui Patrício saving us against him so far.

Sadly unable to catch this game as my Internet isn't working. I hope for many more gifs tomorrow guys!

I´ll post as soon as it´s up on Sporting´s forum.

Bébé may have improved but he's still not good enough for United from what I've seen in this game. The quality of football really isn't very high either so I don't know how anyone can watch one of these games in full without a vested interest in one of the teams' results.

Games at the Mata Real are always like this. That´s why i likened them to Stoke. This isn´t a top of the table clash, it´s a game between a team trying to avoid relegation and us trying to secure Champions League direct qualification and still chasing Benfica.

I haven´t said that Bebe is United material but he is good enough for a top team from the second tier of european football. Like i said he has been performing better than most of the winger choices from Sporting and Porto. After playing in a more demanding enviroment, if he proves himself and keeps evolving why not? It´s not like your other winger choices are spectacular.

Was a nice goal. Nothing special, but nice. Does he score regularly?

He has 4 goals in 25 matches this year, which for a DM is decent numbers i suppose. Specially if we compare with Fernando from Porto who has 6 goals in 226 matches.

@Sly Can you please compare Carvalho to Matic? Thanks in advance.

Carvalho isn´t on Matic´s level at the moment obviously. Matic was player of the season last year in a campaign where although Benfica won nothing, he was their driving force in achieving Europa League final. Carvalho in my opinion is a better player defensively but Matic is more dangerous in the attack and can play as 6 and 8 with reasonable efficiency. From Carvalho, i´ve only seen him play as pure DM (except for our youth level national teams). But i already gave my opinion and i think Carvalho can also play there when he has more tactical freedom or if he plays in a team with more quality. He has shown some promising glimpses when we play 4-4-2 in a more attacking stance when chasing results in the second half. Both are quality passers, have good physical atributes but Matic is obviously more experienced and more dangerous in the attack. I like Matic and i think he will have a great career at Chelsea. I´m obviously biased and a big fan of Carvalho but i can see him doing the same at a top european club as he is evolving on game basis.

If this is true then I don't care if it's 37m. I just hope the deal is done. Would be the first time we've got that level of quality since Keane, which is pretty criminal in itself.

I only watched the game for 45 mins, but what struck my about Carvalho was just how "In Control" he looked at all times. Like he was a few steps ahead of the game. Obviously Pacos weren't great opposition, but I can see why people are hyped about him.

Carvalho man of the match once again. Scored a good goal, won almost all the defensive battles and had a quality passing game. Made another one of those exciting gif runs, see if i can post it later.

Extremely composed and a good passer. I think it's clear that he's instructed to hold in midfield which is a testament to his positioning as he's always in the right areas.

I'm sold on him anyway. I think he'd be good going forward too and I think that's something we'd see more of if we bought him. The opposition really stuggle to handle him when he's carrying the ball.

Looking forward to that gif :). His composure on the ball is almost Pirlo-esque. This might be the last season, United fans sees Carrick as a starting regular if Carvalho can emulate his performances to the bpl.

I also have also expressed the same opinion. I think that playing in a team with more quality and with a less tactically strict manager, will help on that. I understand Leonardo Jardim´s tactical instructions since our midfield was last year´s weakest sector and we need him to balance the team and bring defensive cohesion but in my opinion he can give more attacking wise.

Could we do with signing just him in the summer? To me he just seems like an upgrade to Fellaini, and I thought what we really need is a CM with some pace as well as other key attributes?

By the way, he looks like a man mountain....

What are his chances of starting for Portugal in the WC? Are Veloso and Moutinho his main competitors?

Moutinho is a clear starter. He has been Portugal´s second best player besides Ronaldo. Veloso will be his main rival. And it won´t be easy displacing him because Veloso has been one of Bento´s favourites. Although his Dinamo Kiev form hasn´t been that impressive, the truth is Veloso has always performed decently in our National team. Even so Carvalho has really impressed Bento, specially with his stint away at Sweden for the playoff´s. The way he performed when we were under extreme pressure from Sweden and gave cohesion to our team, cemented his status as a Portugal internacional. I´d give him a 60/70% chance of starting considering we are playing Germany first and we need a more defensive team with physical players.

Hopefully, if we are in for him, we have a pre-agreement. I have never really seen him play but if he as good as people are saying, others will be sniffing about after the WC.

The fact Bento was willing to give him his debut in such an important game certainly suggests he rates and trusts him. IF we do get a deal sorted for him this summer I hope it's before the WC as if he was to have a good tournament the list of suitors is bound to grow and I have already read that Real Madrid have become interested.

These were my thoughts on this too. Is he more than just an upgrade on Fellaini?

I think saying he is like Fellaini is a bit of a lazy comparison based on their physical attributes. Based on what I have seen of Carvalho (admittedly not much) he is far better on the ball than Fellaini. Reminds me a bit of Yaya Toure. Not saying he will reach his level but that is a better comparison than Fellaini IMO.

After last summers debacle you'd think we'd try and do our business before the world cup starts. Would be great to have this one wrapped up early.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Youtube aside, I hadn't actually seen him play until tonight, and the only reason I compared him with Fellaini was because of his physical presence; I wasn't aware of what else he has to offer.
