Wilfried Zaha

In wingers we have Nani, Valencia, Young while Kagawa, Welbeck can do a job there.

In midfield we have Carrick, Cleverley and Anderson while Jones can do a job there.

* Assuming that Giggs, Scholes and Fletcher won't be here next season.

Can we get through a single thread without somebody having a moan about our midfield?

Looking at that video on the previous page, surely it puts the opinions of some posters that Zaha had a completely forgettable performance when he played against United to bed.

While those clips obviously only show a small bit of his overall performance, they show a number of very good runs where he beats a couple of players and shows some nice skills as well. Considering his young age at the time I'm not sure how most United fans wouldn't have taken a note of his name as someone to watch out for in the future.

I remember the game and his play. I'm not surprised that we took a note of him then. But I also thought Clyne performed better of the players we were linked with.

I don't see how anyone can be anything but really positive about this move.

Young, English and bags of potential. Textbook Fergie signing.

You may well be right, but I'm referring to posters that seemed to think that Zaha did next to nothing impressive in that match.

Finally, a player with a bit of arrogance and power. I like the look of this lad, I hope we give him a fast-track next season...especially it our current crop of wingers carry on as they are.

I can see a certain type of player in him, but I daren't say the name.

Good, because for the potential Zaha has he's clearly not going to be in his league.

He was a truly special player. The sort that rarely comes along. We should just be grateful we got to see him play for our club.

Yeah it's a shame we can't get him now actually, considering how we've struggled on the wings.

Palace won't let him go now and it'll be interesting to see how he's going to cope when the pressure comes in towards the end of season when they're fighting for promotion. I trust Holloway to take a good care of him too.

And you would know this from watching how many Championship matches Vs. how many SPL matches?

I know this from watching Wanyama in over 180 minutes against Barcelona - he was hyped ahead of the encounter and for me, he's worthy of a big club. Moreover, he provides something your team does not have.

Zaha is more a winger than a striker and United is Winger U so easy conclusion to make that this doesn't change the look of your squad too much

We have more class than to do this, but wouldn't we be in our right to just keep him and not loan him back? Crystal Palace would be pissed as feck, but from what I understand the idea of loaning back is only a verbal agreement at this point isn't it?

If something like that is in fact in the deal then it's highly likely it'll be more than a verbal agreement.

Even if it was just an a verbal agreement, it would be highly immoral of us to do otherwise. Remember when we sold Howard to Everton and they had a gentlemans agreement that Howard couldn't play against us.

In football we need principles and the moment we start going against our word is the moment we start stinking of shit.

So you saw all 10 of his passes then?

You should sign him instead. He's more of a tackler than any of your midfielders

I really like the look of Zaha. Has all the tricks in his locker and has pace too and is a big lad. I think we will be getting a player that could be world class in a few years. When Hazard starts crying at Chelsea that he dreams of Barcelona while demanding 200,000 a week to stay at Chelsea....I think getting Zaha instead could end up looking like steal in comparison

Lets hope so. Potential is there and he should definitely be more settled

If this transfer goes ahead then at least one of our current wingers will definitely be leaving by this September. I'm guessing Valencia as he's useless on the left. I'd love Nani to stay but who knows what's going on in his head.

Why should that be the case?
Did Van Persie coming here cause any of our strikers to leave? No, we even bought another one xD.
And in any case, Valencia would be the last to leave. A couple of months of bad form doesn't mean you're out the door, especialy not when you were last year's player of the year. And not to mention he doesn't even have an agent because he doesn't want to move, nor does anybody want him to.

Nani is a different case, but if anything I was worried about him leaving this window, now that I know that's not happening I'm actually pretty optimistic about his future with United again.

And besides, it makes sense from an age perspective as well.
Young, Valencia and Nani are all around 26/27/28 years old, while Zaha is 20.

Nani will be in the final year of his contract in the summer, if any of our wingers leave it's likely to be him.

Valencia has had a bad season creatively so far but I don't see Sir Alex dumping him, since he still does a job for the team.

Well the funny part is that Nani was being linked all over the place last year when he was a few months beyond being player of the year. So I dont know why it cant be the case with Valencia

As we saw Nani stayed and most likely Valencia will too.

Celtic sat back so there was never going to be too much passing. However, he looked better defending against Barcelona than anyone United currently employ.

DM position is tough to upgrade based on the present quality - same would apply to your squad in terms of wingers

Have the Barca fans got over missing out on Zaha yet?

Really? Your DMs have been that poor in form?

Valencia has been incredibly dissappointing and frustrating. Young started off terribly then played some good games on the bounce. Still not exactly the quality of Valencia last year or Nani before.

We dont need someone to just defend in midfield. We have Jones for that job we dont need. And Carrick averaged 3 tackles a game last season which was as many as any midfielder in the league that could actually pass a ball (and not just tackle and lose it like Cattermole)

Brilliant. Just looked up Barcelona on whoscored and none of your team average 3 tackles a game either. So none of your players defend as well as Carrick did last season for us.

Carrick couldn't get near Barcelona's midfielders as you may recall. Wanyama, on the other hand, was glued to our midfielders

No worries there

Are you sure? You seem to be playing strikers out there all the time

One striker, Villa. Otherwise, Cuenca, Pedro, Tello and Alexis with Deulofeu on deck - and several on their way after that

I agree. I think that Wanyama could add something to our midfield. We do not harry well in the middle of the park. Our most mobile midfielder, Cleverley, fades after 60 minutes.

Thats because the game took place in a space of 32 yards from Celtic's goal.

Carrick is not a problem, the problem is that the rest of the team dont close down like all the players at Barcelona. If we had our wingers and forwards closing down as much as you do, we'd be fine. We dont.

Alexis was a striker at Udinese and and spent most of last season running in front of Messi. Pedro scores goals... If ever there was a "wide striker" as people like to say these days, he'd fit that description.

Your only wingers are Dani Alves, Cuenca (injured?) and Tello. Gerard needs some games, I've liked him since watching him play for Spain under 17s or something

Only towards the end was he playing at striker, friend. I followed him there & with Chile - I know what his best attributes are and striker is not one of them.

I watched him too, and in his final season he was a striker. And thats when he got super hyped up, with his performances there next to Di Natale.

He was a winger before that of course, but we're talking a year at Udinese and most of his time at Barcelona playing further forward than Messi.

:nono:

An Arsenal fan made a good point that when United bring youngsters in, they tend to settle fairly quickly. Zaha will definitely be a first team player for us next season, I don't think there will be any loaning out of him.

My problem is at this rate the following players will be trying to get into our front 4 next season:
Nani, Valencia, Young, Zaha, Welbeck, Rooney, Van Persie, Hernandez and Henriquez.

Someone's going to get frozen out.
