Wilfried Zaha

I also don't see how signing Zaha is proof Nani is off. Despite varying levels of quality, we've always had 4 wingers available in the first team over the last 5/6 seasons. Now, admittedly, that list may have included shining lights such as Obertan, Bebe, Park and a somewhat geriatric Giggs, but it was still the case.

At present we have Valencia, Nani, Young and - last performance aside - the geriatric and soon to be retiring Giggs. I follow the reserves a fair bit, and the one position we have virtually no talent in is on the wings. So that's not an option.

Fergie has always loved a pacy, direct winger - and perhaps more impotantly loved to have that option to come on off the bench. If one of our actual wingers in injured, we lose that and have to stick Kagawa/Welbeck out wide to do a job.

With Zaha, Valencia, Young AND Nani, we'd be covered like all other positions. (except central midfield, of course)

So, have we bought him yet?

A lot of talk about Bale, Ox but nothing substantial for Zaha.

I haven't watched him more than 2-3 games to be honest, so I don't know what to expect from him. Talented winger with skills is about as much as I know. 15m seems steep for a player coming from the Championship.

It's not fecking £15m. Worst case scenario it's £15m with add-ons included and if it goes that high then it means he'll have been excellent for us. Most sources have been quoting £12m as Palace's asking price and that's how much it's probably going to be, with add-ons contributing around a third of that I reckon.

12 or 15 is about the same mate. Even 12m is a bit steep for a player coming from the Championship.

This is like the Ashley Young signing with people just making up figures, Young was apparently 20m and 120k a week at one stage.

We can't afford 15m ffs. We need to think about our finances.

If SAF and our scouts think that he's worth a 15m investment and we're willing to pay it, well then he must have some top potential. I don't know why some posters on here must act like they know everything about value in the transfer market.

I'm pretty sure SAF, The Glazers and Gill are a bit more clued in about our finances then you, Summit.

I was referring to the constant speculation on here that Nani is off.

Personally I think selling Nani would be a monumental feck up and Fergie isn't stupid.

Let me introduce you to this guy I know.

his name is Marc

Based on what? And how many other players in the Championship have been capped for England at 20? And Spurs bought him years ago.

Based on his outstanding performances for Southampton of course. And that's why Fergie tried to sign him at the time.

Had Bale been English there's no doubt he would have been capped for England many times.

Zaha being "capped for England" (at senior level) amounts so far to playing for just 17 minutes plus stoppage time, in a friendly, replacing another debutant. He may well get further chances, but there's not much to reasonably read into his future possble England career as yet.

I've no real opinion on Zaha as a player or on his potential, as I've barely seen him play. And compared to Spurs, MUFC can much better afford to take this type of punt for £15m and, who really knows, it might pay big dividends.

No, it's not. If you buy a player for £15m up front he's rather expensive (very expensive given the level he's playing at). If you buy him for £12m, of which £7m or £8m is paid up front and the rest is based on players future performance and contribution to the team, and factor in his wages which will be rather small, it's a decent price.

Can everybody stop indulging Glaston please?

He's only here because his team is in good form. He will go AWOL when Spurs lose their next match.

He wouldn't have even been considered. :wenger: He was 17, playing in the Championship mainly at left back, his competition would have been Ashley Cole.

37 pages and we haven't even bought him yet. I hope we restart the thread when/if we sign him!

Fergie rages over Zaha Move

Sir-Alex-Ferguson-Manchester-United-Premier-L_2575596.jpg

It's now 24 hours since the last time we exclusively told you that Wilfried Zaha will sign for Manchester United within 24 hours. And now we're telling you again. The Old Trafford outfit are believed to be preparing to prepare a bid for the highly-rated footballer that no-one has ever seen in action. However, doubts remain whether Zaha is overrated or underrated, and if he'll be worthy of his massive asking-price or the bargain fee that United are considering preparing to prepare within another 24 hours from the last time.

Our insider source at Crystal Rovers claims that the Scarlet Devils will be buying pure quality or absolute dogshit: "He's good, but sometimes he's bad. Willy, as I call him, is still young, so there's plenty of time for him to feck up and be blamed for everything. The move might work, or it might not."

Meanwhile, Sir Alfred Ferguson is mulling over strangling flop foreigner David De Zaster, and exchanging him for acclaimed goalkeeper Victor Valderama.

From Twitter, but the Twitter of a Palace Trust board member: Zaha deal to Man Utd reported to be done: 10m up front + 5m based on apps,3m of which very achievable, plus loan back to end of season

Chat also that Powell on loan might be part of the deal. Would be good for all parties imo.

Wilfried Zaha will finally complete his long mooted move from Crystal Palace to Manchester United before the weekend after the Premier League leaders agreed a deal that will potentially be worth in excess of £15m with the Championship club.

United will make a downpayment of £10m for the 20-year-old, who made his England debut as a substitute in November's 4-2 friendly defeat in Sweden, with further staggered payments up to £5m due after a certain number of appearances while at the Old Trafford club. Zaha will initially earn £35,000 a week on his five-and-a-half-year contract, and Palace are also understood to have negotiated a clause whereby they would be entitled to a proportion of any profit should Zaha be sold by United.

I fear we're just getting sucked into the hype and massively over paying.

10 rising to 15 isn't that bad tbh. Apparently he is now saying he will transfer officially in the summer and not be on loan. We'll have that agreement.

Bebe was an absolute fail for us. I seriously doubt Fergie will do it again by just "going by hype" and signing him just because of it.

If we are indeed signing him, it's because we've scouted him well enough and genuinely believe that he could become an awesome player for us.

10m for an English player isnt much of a gamble.
Jarvis cost West Ham over 10m after Wolves were relegated.

Unless he is an absolute disaster, we'll get most if not all our money back in the future..

And a lot of people seem to rate him very highly. He'll probably do pretty well for us.

Bebe should not be compared to anyone. That situation was absurd and should not be attempted to be understood by the rules of reason.

Bebe didn't even have any hype tbh.

Eh? So you think Gill and co have picked up the papers and trawled through youtube looking for an excuse to buy the guy? If this football club bought off the back of hype, we'd be the proud owners of Jordan Henderson by now.

I'm surprised how many people are making this kinda suggestion. Ferguson doesn't go for hype; he researches his future employees right down to their family background and makes sure they're United. Not all transfers come off but I think it's crazy to think "hype" plays any part in SAF's decision making.

Well exactly. Fergie basically signed him simply because Quieroz told him to. Fergie clearly believed him without any knowledge - and it failed.

Fergie wouldn't do that again. Hence why I'm sure he's done his research on this one.

See above.

This kid must be good his price seems to rise 20% daily - could teach the stockbrokers a thing or two!

I'd laugh if we actually ended getting him for about £3m and the media just went way over the top.

£10m up front is a bloody good deal though and we'll only pay the add-ons if he's a decent player and gets the appearances / trophies required.

.
I'm convinced there was something dodgy in that transfer; I just can't fathom how a club can take minimum 7m for a footballer as bad as he is and it's a mystery why he's still on our books.
